This channel will now be dedicated to videos regarding our future off grid cabin build and all the videos and reviews and information that will go into our adventure. We are suburban city dwellers who wanted to get some land in the mountains in North Carolina and build some cabins for weekends away from the city and to rent out for some extra income. Thanks for watching!

Like ....wow
She loves watching other dogs on TV!
Ill start: Thats a heck of a drive😮
Yes it is! Lucky for me my neighbor Clause has been fixing the road, I owe him a lot! But the land swap will make it a lot easier to get in and out and make it way quicker for us to start building.
Hmmm.... why isnt people saying anything?
Good question!
The flaps are called sod panels. They were put in trenches cut out around the tent. It was used by the settlers to keep wind and snow out. You can still do it now.
YUP! Learned this last year from another person with a similar comment, I had no clue! I did some more research on this and actually put that into a couple of my other videos. And I found if you fold that sod cloth UNDER the floor...ZERO draft! Made winter a lot better in this tent!
well after having it a few years...how is it holding up?
It would have held up great if it weren't for the mice!!! Mice got into my deck box and ate holes in the tent! I have patches to fix it, next time I go up to camp I will make a video on that. Oh I was so damn mad!!! Aside from the mice eating holes in it, it had held up great. My only other issue has been a little bit of mold, but again that is my fault and nobody else's, two trips in a row while packing up to leave it has been lightly sprinkling, nothing I can do about it, but the deck doesn't get a ton of sun so it's almost like it never dries out and the deck box being enclosed same problem. But really, aside from those two issues, no fault of the tent manufacturer, it has really held up great.
closing the vents is simple with just a couple of strips of velcro on the bottom edge.
We actually figured out if you tuck the "sod clothe" or excess edge of the tent UNDER the floor you get almost no vent or draft it works great!
@@bfroutdoors That was a great way to solve the problem. Nice work around!
@@waynerogersbushcraft3153 the power of UA-cam community! Someone else suggested it and worked great! Now I have to patch holes though, nice got into the deck box and ate some holes in the tent! 🤬🤬🤬
Pitbull?
The dogs? Yup! Both pit mixes. The brown one is Sunny she is pit and rottweiler, the black striped one is Penny she is pit.
I lost my pit two years ago he was 14
Install a wooden door for your tent !
If it were a permanent tent setup I totally would, but we break it down each time we leave. And once we build the cabin we won't be using the tent anymore.
As your next project you should give your tent a wooden front and a normal door! I think you would appreciate it a lot I saw some people do it with a bell tent and it looks great
If it were a permanent tent setup I totally would, but we break it down each time we leave. And once we build the cabin we won't be using the tent anymore.
I bought the 10 x 20. We love it.
Wish I had room for the 20! I don't really need it though. And once we build the cabin we won't need it anymore. Glad to hear you're enjoying it!
@@bfroutdoors I’m actually going to get the 10 x 12 for trips when it’s just 2 or 3 of us.
First of all... If you are freaked out by critters don't go in the woods! Second you can get a big roll of Velcro for cheap! Losers
Thank you. So glad you set it up yourself, as that would be my situation, always.
It's really not bad. Much easier as I am over six foot tall, if my wife had to setup on her own she would struggle, she can handle the weight but being short would be tough for her, but I'm confident she could do it, would just take a little longer.
The only thing I don't like the tent is white I don't like white tents I wish they made them in olive green
The good part is during the day it isn't super dark inside the tent, the bad part is the instant the sun comes up you are going to wake up from the light. Also, if you're looking to remain more hidden, you can spot this thing through the forest a mile away. But for the price you can't beat it.
I’ve love my “happy place” tent. I put it up in August in my backyard so I could rent an additional room in my house. I moved it to a friend’s back yard in February and it’s still great. I put the floor on plastic pallets which allows for airflow underneath and protection from the rain. Great value for $400!❤ I threw a heavy tarp over it to make snow removal easy and protect from hail. When I replace this I may get the bigger 12x20’ next time.
That is great! A tarp over the top helps a ton, not just with rain and snow and hail but with protection from the sun. Glad you like it, we love ours!
Walmart sells Velcro
Ha! Yes they do. Since shooting this video we actually learned how to tuck that flap under the tent and it has almost zero draft now. Once the cabin is built we won't have to worry about it anyway.
What about 3 normal size cots? Do you think it would fit 3 grown men with cots? Or would you think the 20x10 would be better?
So you can fit three cots in it...but not really much else...you could not fit three cots plus a wood stove or even a table for food prep. When we do two cots for the wife and I or one of my friends, plus the wood stove, there is just enough room for my two little food prep tables. If you want to keep everything in the tent with three cots you will need the 20x10. Best of luck!
Really well put together review, thanks my friend
Thanks for watching! One of my first videos ever put up so it's not the best and we have come a long way from this to our current level of videos, but really just glad to show people a decent piece of gear at a decent price that will help people get out in the woods and enjoy their time.
Hey Doug -- Awesome video!
Hey, thanks!
Great looking tent 😉
It really is. Two years and it has held up great.
Does the floor have a velcro strip all the way around?
Nope. It’s my one and only issue with the tent. The Volvo is around every pole on the sides so three spots on the sides and one spot on the middle of the back wall. Easy fix you can just add some to it.
Someone could also get double stick heavy duty Velcro and ad it to the rest of the walls so the floor is completely sealed off for pretty inexpensive.
That is exactly what I am going to do! Been on my list for the last couple trips up to camp and just have not gotten to it yet. It really needs it along the back wall, the wide walls have three Velcro spots and the back wall only has one. The other trick is to tuck that sod cloth UNDER the floor which is what I do now.
I don’t remember if you mentioned it but how was condensation on the inside without a stove. Do you think a wood stove would help with that.
@@luigibagins I mentioned it briefly in one of the other tent review videos, it's not bad, if you are not running a propane heater or a propane cooking stove there is almost none. During the warmer times once the sun comes out it dries right up anyway. But now that I have had it for two years, and last month I just got a wood stove and man that thing solves all those issues. I was starting to get a little mildew on the tent from having to pack it up when it was damp, nothing you can do about it really you gotta pack up and go home and the weather isn't always perfect, I need to treat it with a water sealer and ant-mildew and we will be golden. But the wood stove on the last trip man it dries everything up it's so nice. This tent with a wood stove is so nice.
1. Camping takes place in the woods. 2. You could treat the skirt with sawyer permethrin. My Gazelle T3 has a removable floor, never had an issue.
Right! My tent has never been on any ground, only been on the deck. Was up at camp for new years and it snowed for two days and rained two days, didn’t have any issues. Thanks for watching brother!
Good idea. We used the welding heat shield fiberglass blanket around our heater. Just zip tied to horizontal frame bars. I love your content.
Thanks!
Good idea. We just zip tied a heat shield blanket on the horizontal frame. It’s lighter weight and folds up small when not using them.
I actually considered ordering two of the heat shield blankets and using one on the wall just like you did! But the blankets tend to absorb the heat and not reflect it like a metal sheet will. Eventually this will end up in a bigger canvas tent further up the mountain after we build the cabin. Thanks for watching!
That’s a great looking camp, thank you for the mention!
You are more than welcome! Ya'll make an excellent product...just a little out of my price range at the moment. Once the cabin is built and we build the next tent deck we will run this stove in the next tent and one of yours in the cabin, promise!
What cot do you use? Do you have a link for the cot?
I can't believe I don't have that link in all my videos! This cot is awesome! I have two of them, I got one from Bass Pro and this one from Amazon, the one from Amazon is $20 cheaper and I kid you not is the same exact one. I got an XL with extra length because I'm 6-4. The one from Amazon also comes with this little bag that hangs on the side you can put your phone and flashlight or headlamp and a firearm in there to keep right next to you while sleeping, super convenient and the one from Bass did not come with that. Anyway, thanks for watching and here is the link... amzn.to/3vyL5Fs
@@bfroutdoors Thank you! check out the recommendation right now!
@@bfroutdoors Thanks again for the recommandation. I bought two cots through your link a while back and they turned out great for my needs.
$500 in 2024
Damn it went back up to $500?! I got it at $400, then it went up to $500, but most of 2023 it was down to $260! Crazy they jumped the price back up. I wonder if they had a jump in demand for it when the price was super low? Who knows. But we all know that at $500 they are ripping everyone off.
things are going to be really CRAZY in 2024!!!
Tranquil
Very. Maybe hear a couple cars a day go by and one or two plane per day and that is it. We can hear the cows on the other side of the ridge and the coyotes at night and that is it. This was a great weekend!
Is this at Overmountain Shelter?
Nope, this is our land, few minutes north of Bakersville, in between Bakersville and Roan Mountain.
show us the actual stove, size, etc- give us a review.
Filming a full review tomorrow! Will upload next week.
That is not a bobcat! Bobcats are much larger and have more hair.
Wonder what it is then, I have a bobcat on video same spot last year.
I'm curious to ask if these kinds of canvas tents would last better if the canvas was painted? or coated with paint somehow? Thanks for any insight.
That's a good question, but several people who have had these up for more than a year or two have told me you just need to spray it with a waterproofer like Thompson's and an anti fungal if you're in a place like I am that is very humid all year round. Putting an extra rain fly tarp over the top of it also helps immensely as it also gives it some shade from the sun so it doesn't dry rot.
Thank you@@bfroutdoors
I’ve got an Ozark trail 4person tent that I bought 10 years ago…..it’s been at a camp on our property by one of our ponds for the last 4 of those years……standing in all weather and still doing fine……..when it’s finally replaced,it will be with another Ozark Trail…
Four years is crazy! I think you may be the highest number I've had comment on here. I've had a few two year and I think one guy with it up for three years. Once we build the cabin I am building a second deck further up the mountain and I am going to place this tent on it to rent out and I am leaving it up to see how long it really lasts.
How has the camera been working for you ? I’ve been thinking about getting the new one but I’m so nervous because of all the bad reviews I’ve read on it. ( on Amazon)
I need to go read some of those bad reviews. My concern was the battery life (I only go up to camp once a month at the most and most of the year its every other month) and I was concerned over the cell signal. I have had ZERO issues with this camera and I am a noob on trail cams this is my first and only one. I am about to do a video on a swivel mount for it and I am going to upload a whole bunch of video footage. The video is shockingly clear, even the night vision. Cell reception up there is only LTE but I get updates every day on it, you get a screenshot in your feed and then you can "request" the entire video if you want to see it, and it comes through on the next update, I have mine set to every 12 hours. And that solar panel I got for it has kept it at 100% battery for a year now. I hate to say it but anyone leaving a bad review on this camera may possibly just be an idiot.
Don't know what you where reading on Amazon but what u read on Amazon was great reviews on these cameras yes I bought two thru are the best cellular camera on market.
Niiice
Can't wait to set this up!
I lucked up and got one for $100 on FB! Setting it up tomorrow for my outdoor hot tent winter smoking lounge 😁
No way! Steal!!! Nice score! I got it for $400...covid craziness sent them up to $500...now they are $250 I think...but $100 is a deal.
4x8 pvc sheet....insect...rot resistant...can paint...you finished in syracuse.....
Yeah what happened to the rest of my video?! Will have to fix and upload a new one thanks.
Just bought one to convert to my winter cigar lounge! Thanks sir!
Nice! Have fun enjoy it! Did you get it for $250??? What a deal! I got it for $400 and then Covid drove it up to $500. I’m betting Walmart ordered a couple thousand of them and now they’re sitting on a pile of them so they had to drop the price. I’m tempted to get a couple and sell them on eBay for people who can’t get them like up in Canada.
This looks like a perfect setup. You just need a wood stove!
100% yes I do! This past weekend last weekend of September was perfect weather, but next month I know I will need the heater, trying to order a stove this month or next month for sure!
The internal frame poles have colored tape as a means of figuring out where they go. The tape wears off easily, so I spray painted the ends to keep them all straight. The frame isn't very strong and I had to pay a welding shop to repair some of my brackets when they broke.
Some of my poles have worn off the colored tape just a little but not so much that I can't see it. Hopefully I will be building the cabin in the next six months and I won't need to use the tent anymore, but we will probably build a second deck higher up the mountain to do a second camp to rent out and we will probably need to paint the poles at that point.
Nice tent! I was thinking of making one about the size out of canvas tarps but at that price its hardly worth doing. Those metal frames look pretty weak mainly for temp camping. If you wanted a permanent setup or longterm then heavier pipes or woodframe might be your best bet. Definitely a protective cover as well for UV protection ( there are coatings that help too) as well as rain and sun shade. Definately a good investment.
Once we get the cabin built we will end up building a second deck further up the mountain to rent out both camps and I will probably get a nice white duck canvas tent. For now this is holding up ok. I will need to spray this for the winter, a waterproof coating and an anti-fungal coating. But throwing a tarp over helps a ton.
How big is your platform?
The platform was built in two sections, first section is 12x12 (tent is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide) and then the additional section is 12 wide x 8 feet deep which gives us the additional seating area where the fire pit is.

Great video man. I hope the waterproofing is good to withstand the tears of YT commenters.
Haaaaaaaaa! Well the good part is, once we build the cabin we will no longer need this tent, and then phase two is building another deck further up the ridge and putting a high quality white duck canvas tent on that deck to rent out for "glamping".
thy hate anyone having fun cheaoply
Haaaaa! So true! God forbid I don't put out a video with a $3,000 canvas tent!
I 💯 agree. These things aren't cheap. I've had a few tents and none of the held up in East Coast canadian winters. Had no idea walmart sold something like this.
I am tempted to buy 2 or 3 of them and sell them on ebay with shipping to Canada, I have had several people message me and say they cannot get them shipped to Canada from Walmart!
Your "late morning" is my "early morning". I don't even want to know what your early morning hours are. I am probably still dead to the world. - Good Vid's! Keep em' coming. :0)
Ha! Yeah back in the city I open the gym at 6am! Up at camp I usually sleep in until 8 or 9. Usually the sunlight hitting the tent and the birds wake me up. Thanks for watching!
Great way to stay in shape! Proud of u brother
YUP! Thanks for watching bro!
Does a healthy deer. You sure have a lot of wildlife in your land. To survive if you play it smart. Congrats brother that's nice. And that camera is amazing I have it too
I see this one and a couple others almost every day on the camera. One of my buddies is coming up this fall to teach me some hunting skills so maybe this fall I will bag one. I am always surprised at how nice the videos are from this camera! And it even has sound!
Just add some candles and a little potpouri and the girls will love it. Sprinkle some cedar chips in after every dookie and your good to go. Nice to see you back at your camp!
Some shower board to close in the walls and a couple candles and a door and we will be all set! I just can't believe I didn't get the right hinges for that door, damn I was so mad! Oh well, will be back next month and will get the door on and make the little pond area bigger, I am getting a ton of deer coming to the water. Can't wait to get back up there and get it all done and then start on the cabin this fall.
