Replace Dryer Grate to fix heating issue
So my dryer wasn’t drying clothes well again, and I discovered that there was a lot of lint buildup behind the grate in the back of the dryer. I was able to remove it, clean out the lint, and after putting the dryer on its back, line up the screw holes to put the grate back on (I spent hours trying to line them up with the dryer straight up. It’s not worth trying, just lay it on its back). Note that there are screw holes, but also just empty space that the screws can fit into but not hold the drum properly. Make sure to find the original screw holes. Removing this lint helped my dryer starting drying much better!

Replacing Heating Element on Kenmore HE2 Dryer
Переглядів 59 тис.10 років тому
I'm no professional, but since I couldn't find a video online that featured the Kenmore HE2 dryer, I thought I'd make one to hopefully save someone some time or stress out there. There's a great video on the HE3 that also may be useful to watch, but there's a big difference with taking out the heating element in the HE2.

A short clip (anybody have the full version?) of the guys' second song at Creative Soul's School of Music. Half of the guys didn't know how to play their instrument before they walked in the door, but our instructors taught us the instruments and the song, all in an hour so we could perform it right away. Awesome party idea!

Did the exact same thing now mine won’t fill.
Do the current GE top loaders no longer have a drain filter?
Do you what kit you purchased of amazon?
I ordered the Whirlpool 8544771 Single Element

Aaron! Thank you so much for your video! We got a dryer off FB marketplace that we thought worked until we got it home and it didn’t heat. Your video and my husband’s trust (!) allowed me to effortlessly change it out. Using the multimeter I figured out it was the thermal fuse. Ordering on Amazon was a breeze. And I learned from the comments and your commentary to take clear pics of the wiring configuration BEFORE detaching then which helped Bigtime. Anyhow… thanks for taking the time to post this helpful video. I’m still riding high for turning a marketplace sale gone wrong Into RIGHT!! 💪🏼💥
I love it!
I ended pulling the back off to see how that heater assembly fit back in the hole. That was a bear.
Describes how long it took to get it back in. But then didn't describe where the wires went. He just says do research.
Dude. You rock. Totally saved me a bunch of money. Thanks
Appreciate the little nuances, great video!
A nice, straight to the point quality How-to!!🎉
Does this model have a filter?
No
If this model doesn’t have any kind of filter… what would cause residue clumps on the clothes when the cycle finishes? My wife and I continually have this issue.
Omg This is exactly what mine is doing now so I'm here to learn how to do this myself
Thanks this helped fixing the pump 🙏🏻
Ok, I finally figured out how we are supposed to change that heater housing. I struggled as everyone else here seems to have. But then the light came on! First that clip needs to be snapped into place at the end of the heater duct before you install it. Ok, then how do we get it in? I read all the ways including bending ir or just leaving it out. But surely there must be a correct way? Well there is. You need to remove the drum! Not that hard to do and you may need to do this sometime if the belt or something else fails. This disassembly link is for an HE3, but procedure is similar for HE2. ua-cam.com/video/APlWrIcP94g/v-deo.html . Seems a bit daunting, but actually quite easy and that heater element goes in in 2 seconds! That clip holds the heater duct in position while you replace the front support. Phew - glad I found a way!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Even after 7 years seems this video is still relevant to many of us! My lelent still heated but seems to have shorted to the housing and doesn't shut off. I am currently struggling to remove the housing. Kind of a dumb design, If they had made it so a 1/4 turn to lock tab, irt would have been easy to remove. I am stalling - need to get back and try and force that sucker out :)
Good to hear! Funny story: I gave this dryer to a friend years ago, and the heating element went out on him this summer, 8 years after this video. He searched online for instructions and found this video of the same dryer! Fix still worked. So hopefully if you got the housing removed and everything fixed, it should last you around 8 more years, ha!
Same thing happened to me going to attempt this today! Thank you!!!!
I have an HE3, which is similar. You showed me about the tab, and I thank you. I also replaced the power and overtemp components. Me heater coil burned out and cracked the metal plate. I guessed with that kind of current spike the overtemp fuse was probably shot. It tested poorly on an ohmmeter, with only a fraction of the resistance of a new fuse. Amazon sells a kit with the four electrical components -- heater coil and the other two components on the steel heater box, plus the small black fuse on the fan housing. If I had my spec sheet, I'd call them all by their correct name, but it's down by the dryer, I just laid down after a long day, and I don't feel like getting up!
Thank you! I was able to replace the broken heating element myself. Appreciate the guidance.
?
Thank you for sharing hey a quick question where do you buy that part on Amazon what is it called
Thank you so much. This saved me a whole tone of money.
Whered you go to look how the wires go back together having that issue now
Thanks for posting this! Just had to replace mine as well and took off the whole back panel before checking UA-cam and seeing this is much easier just removing the front panel. Couldn’t get the case back in with the clip so removed it but seems the metal tube will hold with the front bracket. (at least I hope anyway)
Has your dryer been holding up without using that pesky little clip in the back? I’ve been struggling for about a day, debating on just removing it completely.
Yes been holding up without the clip
Disassembly would have been useful.
Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much. Your machines are identical to ours. I was worried about getting the wrong part but could plainly see which one of the various search results to get before taking it apart.
Can u by pass the heating element and run the washer or do u have to have it to work to the washer
Thanks for this informative diy video,It fixed my dryer in a fast cost effective way! Keep doing what ur doing!
Thanks so much! Very helpful!
Thanks a ton. I found the he3 videos (I have an he3), but my heating element is the same style as yours. I was scratching my head at how to get the element out without taking the drum out.
so what are the order parts to use and from where ? amazon ? pricing
If you’ll look through the comments you can find the part number, and then just google that or look for it on Amazon to find current pricing
Bro, I fucking love you for posting this! Thank you!
love it :)
After two days days of wrestling with trying to get this thing back in, just removed the pesky clip at back. The front brace holds the assembly firmly in place. Just be sure to replace all the screws.
Has it held up without the clip in back? I could not get it back in so removed it as well
Yes, no problems after 2 years, works like a champ.
Thanks for this! You just saved me a small fortune in repair bills!
Thank you for this video! I just need to find the right element.
Just to give a heads up to others, this is the exact same procedure as for a Kenmore HE5 dryer. The entire heating element cover has to be taken out unlike the HE3. I wish I had seen this video earlier today when I was re-assembling my HE5, because I could not figure out the rear clip. I ended up not putting the clip back in, but making sure it was nice and secure before screwing in the front support mount. Thanks again!
It is wonderful that this video shows how to do the job without removing the tub and other components. Here is a small tip that may help. I removed the small tab at the top of the unit and with vice grip pliers bent the tab 45 degrees which helped greatly to insert the unit into the dryer. Hope this helps.
Clark Trivett this is where I am having trouble... getting the unit back in with the tab
I tired this and ended up breaking part of the tab off. I just ended up putting it back in without the tab and the front heat shield seems to hold it in fine.
Good job. Video was perfect. I
You so totally rock - your instructions were right on it (definitely mark all your wires - took me seconds to reconnect). The main thing is your video gave me the courage to get the parts and do it myself. To anyone doing this - verify all your part numbers, look for replacements on Amazon or Ebay (Ebay was cheapest...) and do it! My clothes are drying right now... :-)) Thanks dude!!!!!
Thank you for posting this! Very helpful!!
Thank you so much for showing how this all came apart. Your video kept me from a lot of frustration and saved me time. I truly appreciate it.
Thank you for this video. It saved me a lot of time.
hey man awesome vid! I noticed you said you didn't know which wire's went where once you put the new heating element back in, I am having that same problem right now. anyway you can help me? I will create a video showing you EXACTLY what my problem is. also are you finding that that cheaper heating element won't last a full year? rehousing my third element in three years
Hey Joey. I apologize that I don't remember the details as this video was quite a while ago. If you look in the comments below you can find the Whirlpool part that I got from Amazon. It's lasted fine for a year or two now. I'll let you know if I think of anything else though.
thinair it lasted a good while for us until we gave the dryer away to friends that needed one
Your video was very helpful. Thanks for sharing! However, I can't find anything on how the wires go back on since I didn't label them prior to taking them off. Anyway you can share how to hook back up?
Tosha, I made the same mistake, so I ended up just guessing which was which, and when I turned it on (before I closed everything up), it was right. I'm not sure what could happen if it's on wrong, but I'd think an improper connection just means that it wouldn't turn on.
Wow, this is perfect. I have an HE3 but the internal stuff is exactly like this HE2!!!! No wonder i was having trouble. I didn't realize the main element housing came off the back. Couldn't reach the housing screws for anything. This will make it easier, thanks very much.
using your video now, thank you so much!
Chris, when I took my element out it looked like the Amazon P/N Kenmore Elite Dryer heating Element PN8546742. It's probably a good idea to check the two switches with an ohm meter to see if one of them is bad first.
Thank you, Aaron. I had to replace mine and your video made the job much easier for me than if I had not seen it.
That's awesome, thanks for letting me know.
