Replace Dryer Grate to fix heating issue
So my dryer wasn’t drying clothes well again, and I discovered that there was a lot of lint buildup behind the grate in the back of the dryer. I was able to remove it, clean out the lint, and after putting the dryer on its back, line up the screw holes to put the grate back on (I spent hours trying to line them up with the dryer straight up. It’s not worth trying, just lay it on its back). Note that there are screw holes, but also just empty space that the screws can fit into but not hold the drum properly. Make sure to find the original screw holes. Removing this lint helped my dryer starting drying much better!

Replacing Heating Element on Kenmore HE2 Dryer
Переглядів 59 тис.10 років тому
I'm no professional, but since I couldn't find a video online that featured the Kenmore HE2 dryer, I thought I'd make one to hopefully save someone some time or stress out there. There's a great video on the HE3 that also may be useful to watch, but there's a big difference with taking out the heating element in the HE2.

A short clip (anybody have the full version?) of the guys' second song at Creative Soul's School of Music. Half of the guys didn't know how to play their instrument before they walked in the door, but our instructors taught us the instruments and the song, all in an hour so we could perform it right away. Awesome party idea!

Aaron! Thank you so much for your video! We got a dryer off FB marketplace that we thought worked until we got it home and it didn’t heat. Your video and my husband’s trust (!) allowed me to effortlessly change it out. Using the multimeter I figured out it was the thermal fuse. Ordering on Amazon was a breeze. And I learned from the comments and your commentary to take clear pics of the wiring configuration BEFORE detaching then which helped Bigtime. Anyhow… thanks for taking the time to post this helpful video. I’m still riding high for turning a marketplace sale gone wrong Into RIGHT!! 💪🏼💥

Ok, I finally figured out how we are supposed to change that heater housing. I struggled as everyone else here seems to have. But then the light came on! First that clip needs to be snapped into place at the end of the heater duct before you install it. Ok, then how do we get it in? I read all the ways including bending ir or just leaving it out. But surely there must be a correct way? Well there is. You need to remove the drum! Not that hard to do and you may need to do this sometime if the belt or something else fails. This disassembly link is for an HE3, but procedure is similar for HE2. ua-cam.com/video/APlWrIcP94g/v-deo.html . Seems a bit daunting, but actually quite easy and that heater element goes in in 2 seconds! That clip holds the heater duct in position while you replace the front support. Phew - glad I found a way!

Even after 7 years seems this video is still relevant to many of us! My lelent still heated but seems to have shorted to the housing and doesn't shut off. I am currently struggling to remove the housing. Kind of a dumb design, If they had made it so a 1/4 turn to lock tab, irt would have been easy to remove. I am stalling - need to get back and try and force that sucker out :)

Good to hear! Funny story: I gave this dryer to a friend years ago, and the heating element went out on him this summer, 8 years after this video. He searched online for instructions and found this video of the same dryer! Fix still worked. So hopefully if you got the housing removed and everything fixed, it should last you around 8 more years, ha!

I have an HE3, which is similar. You showed me about the tab, and I thank you. I also replaced the power and overtemp components. Me heater coil burned out and cracked the metal plate. I guessed with that kind of current spike the overtemp fuse was probably shot. It tested poorly on an ohmmeter, with only a fraction of the resistance of a new fuse. Amazon sells a kit with the four electrical components -- heater coil and the other two components on the steel heater box, plus the small black fuse on the fan housing. If I had my spec sheet, I'd call them all by their correct name, but it's down by the dryer, I just laid down after a long day, and I don't feel like getting up!

Thanks for posting this! Just had to replace mine as well and took off the whole back panel before checking UA-cam and seeing this is much easier just removing the front panel. Couldn’t get the case back in with the clip so removed it but seems the metal tube will hold with the front bracket. (at least I hope anyway)

Just to give a heads up to others, this is the exact same procedure as for a Kenmore HE5 dryer. The entire heating element cover has to be taken out unlike the HE3. I wish I had seen this video earlier today when I was re-assembling my HE5, because I could not figure out the rear clip. I ended up not putting the clip back in, but making sure it was nice and secure before screwing in the front support mount. Thanks again!

It is wonderful that this video shows how to do the job without removing the tub and other components. Here is a small tip that may help. I removed the small tab at the top of the unit and with vice grip pliers bent the tab 45 degrees which helped greatly to insert the unit into the dryer. Hope this helps.

Tosha, I made the same mistake, so I ended up just guessing which was which, and when I turned it on (before I closed everything up), it was right. I'm not sure what could happen if it's on wrong, but I'd think an improper connection just means that it wouldn't turn on.
