Hurricane Milton I’m Never Doing This Again

We are safe and made it through with very minimal damage. I can not even explain how bad it was to be stuck inside the house and to hear the wind and banging going on outside. I am born and raised here and I have never witnessed anything like this. I will never do it again. We stayed safe in a closet untill the worse was over. My dad lost everything and has no home to go back to. Prayers to everyone in the path of this storm. We will come back from this. We have each other.

Myakka has 39 miles of loop trails for you to hike. Best time to hike these trails in in the late fall, winter and early spring. While we were there every trail was closed due to flooding. That is to be expected during Floridas rainy season. I recommend you check before you go. If you can’t hike there are lots of other things you can do. This trail provides an easy hike around DeSoto National Memorial Park. Great views of the water and Florida’s natural foliage. Great little hike you can even do with the whole family.

Terra Ceia Trail

This is my favorite trail I think I have done so far in Florida. I loved how it was just rustic and untouched compared to other trails. It was very buggy but most places are this time of year. It was a quick mile trail and mostly shaded which you need in this Florida heat. I highly recommend this trail.

Oscar Sherer State Park has 9 trails to choose from. Many were closed at the time we were there due to Hurricane Debby that had gone through a couple weeks before. There were still plenty of trails for us to enjoy. They offer camping, glamping, and have a kayak launch if you choose to do that. This is a fun walk. I made sure to wear tennis shoes to protect my feet. We left at 6:30 in the morning to make sure we did it before the heat got too bad. It was very quiet and very peaceful out there.

When there is a storm, locals here like to head out and surf! Others like to go out and watch and check out the waves! Surfing only happens here when we get a storm so it’s exciting when it happens.

Maximo Park | St. Pete Florida

This is a great little park. They have lots of picnic areas. Great place to stop and have a quick lunch on your lunch break. They have boat ramps for loading and unloading. They have a full disc golf course. Lots of shady spots so you’re not out in the full sun!

Hamlins Haunt

Hamlins Haunt is located in Palmetto Point. It is a free haunted house put on by a local family. They except donations so please donate when you are there. They did an amazing job. You can tell a lot of work went into making this happen. We had an amazing time and I hope they continue to do this every year!
