Hey all, thanks for tuning in. My 2005 Honda S2000 was converted to my track car a little over a year ago. This was the car I experienced my first ever track day with, back when it was literally bone stock with just Tires (Falken RT660’s) and Brakes (Hawk DTC60 pads). Stock alignment settings, suspension, etc. (~$1250)
I did 2 track days with this setup, along with a full road trip down to the tail of the dragon and back and it was a blast! Car held its own. After all of this, the car did not even lose a single bit of oil on the dipstick.
I then added my first and only mod - A Set of Ohlins Road and Track Coilovers (~$2500). I added some negative camber in the back (-2.8*) and kept the front camber at exactly 0* because of an eccentric bolt issue. The rest of my track days and driving was on this setup, and man did it rip! Aside from having snap-oversteer at any given time, the car held its own against many faster and well built cars. The coilover setup was perfect at factory setting, and I ripped my car like this up until this video.
The 2nd phase of this car started as I decided to keep it a bit longer instead of switching cars. I opted to go with a Megan 32mm front sway bar, SPC upper ball joints to finally add front camber (went -2.9*, 0* toe in front), and to run Slicks/Track specific tires to just feel the difference while I have this car. The new tire setup is Toyo Proxes RR 255/40/17 in the back and 225/45/17 in the rear. Same as stock minus adding 10mm in width in both front and rear. Caster I left it as close to factory as possible, ideally wanting 6.2*. The upper ball joints are an amazing addition to the vehicle at only ~$200 for the set, and easy to install (see my other video for removal/installation). The sway bar was only $181 shipped to my shop with new bushings and was a direct bolt in utilizing factory end links.
The tires were the only purchase that were expensive again, but justifiable for me as I really got good use from my last set, and I only really use this car and these specific tires on the TRACK ONLY! With my wholesale discount, I got the tires for ~$1100 shipped to my shop.
You’ll see in my other videos just how bad the tires got. The only real issue I had with tracking this car was with the R1 Concepts drilled and slotted rotors. As a beginner, they held their own really well but as I started to get more aggresive with my driving, I would crack a set of rotors almost every track day. I finally opted for Blanks up front as I didn’t want to fork out $$ for Gyro Disk (Best option IMO, get these if you’re keeping your car). I did feel my car brake’d better with drilled and slotted, but it was a small price to pay to have the comfort of not cracking rotors everytime. If I do end up keeping this car for longer (it’s looking like I will!), then I will fork up the money for the Gyro Disk (~$800).
