Watch this before you buy a Timex Marlin or Mid Century!
Переглядів 6 тис.5 років тому
Timex has some nice looking Marlin reissues out but what if I told you you could get the same thing, only better, for a FRACTION of the price? In the video I neglected to mention the other new Timex possibly best avoided in favor of a vintage alternative; the Times x Todd Snyder Mid Century. The same reasons apply, not to mention it’s got a quartz movement, a little disappointing considering it...

How to Polish Watch Crystals Easily for $10 (Polywatch for acrylic)

Crystal polishing; super useful if, like me, you like buying diamond-in-the-rought watches on Ebay and restoring their luster. It’s cheap, easy, and fun to buy ugly ducklings and bring out their inner swan. All music original. Just ordered the resin quarz Camper in green from france. Looking forward to it. Usually I prefer mechanicals, sapphire crystals and steel cases, but this one has a beautiful distortion with the acrylic. And this beauty is very light-weight.

Is the 36mm resin MK1 worth getting? I can get one for around $65 but idk if it’s worth it for a plastic watch.

This video was tons better than the band i bought from my search _ When viewing a video or looking at a pic on a phone camera, or a seller of watches online, It is not always easy to know what color something is - like the Benchmark strap here on the watch with red circle dial looks gray, maybe it is, might be worth mentioning the colors, or maybe it's just me _Even some strap buckles i can't say for sure if they are polished or brushed unless the light catches it at a certain angle _ i don't want to return what i bought, but i don't want to buy what i can't return _ i bought a $575 quartz watch that i thought was completely the brushed look when the case is brushed but the bezel is polished, and i love the dial and all the specs, but that bezel was a deal-breaker, and i had to return it. . . :>/

Hi there, I just find your channel. I"m into vintage watches, and recently I picked up a GC watch. Its a Swiss made mechanical automatic watch, a day date and no hand winding. Its has a champagne dial and has a turtle case. Its seems to run pretty good and is minus 15 sec a day off. Its a real nice piece but I dont know the brand CG. Do you have any information about CG watches? Greets from the Netherlands.

Liked the Benrus, hadn’t seen that brand before, think I have TIMEX Marlin watch style that McQueen may have worn, although not 100% or what film he wore it in.

They reissued this watch in 2017 based upon the 1965 style, the new watch has a 1970’s case, I have two Marlins, 1967 Timex Marlin Manual Wind Watch gold plated, and a Vintage Timex Marlin Mens Watch has a Silver Sunburst Dial from 1968 Serviced Working Well in chrome.

Granted this video is a few years old and the price of vintage anything has skyrocketed since you made this, but I can only recommend (to your viewers) purchasing a vintage mechanical Timex if it's in relatively new unworn condition and you get it for $20 or $30, like you're saying here. I have three Timex mechanicals, and none kept working past a month or two. They were crap movements back in the day, and any original Timex mechanical movement is pretty well unfixable now. I was able to buy a new 34mm hand-wound Marlin with its much better jewelled movement in good pre-owned condition for about $35, and they're for sale all day long for about $80. I don't mind pre-owned Timex Electric (a German movement that's actually pretty good) and '70s Q or quartz models, but don't pay much for a vintage mechanical as it probably won't last long. Still, a very nice collection of vintage Timex... they're very good looking watches and, if you're lucky, can be fun to collect.

I'd go vintage, but I'm unfortunately allergic to brass. I have some vintage pieces, but can only wear them for a very short period. I have the marlin blackout reissue and I like the fact that the case is stainless.

The prices have gone up lately. Be prepared to pay150 or so for a nice Marlin. BTW, if it says Water Resistant on the dial it is a Marlin. The automatics are known as Viscounts. Nice video!

OK. Timex new reissue is overpriced. However, the movement in the reissue is far superior. The Seagull St6 is a cheap but robust movement that's been around for decades.

Just found this video a couple years later. But the new Marlins actually have movements with jewels in them and generally a lot better build quality. To me that makes it worth it, on top of the fact that they really paid attention to keeping the approach the same in terms of dimensions and aesthetic. You're really paying the Todd Snyder tax with this one.

I have four marlins ranging from 63 to 71 and they all work great. Lately I've been interested in Vintage Zodiacs and have got my hands on a 51 Hermetic and trying to find a Seawolf that won't break the bank and also works. Which is proving to be a hard balancing act.

Wow, so nice to see these encouraging comments from people who enjoy the kinds of watches I like :) I wasn't sure if I should continue, expend the content to cover over "stuff" I like, or ....? If anybody has a topic they'd like to see me cover let me know - if there are people watching and enjoying these that's good reason to make more .

The old Timex had crap movements designed to be disposable. That's why they were cheap. They were very tough but not tremendously accurate. That's why no serious watch collector will touch them and neither will a watch repairer. If it stops, they'd tell you to throw it away and buy a new one, which is what Timex wanted you to do. Ironically, the new Timex watches use an older, time-tested movement design that is higher quality, reparable and... more expensive.

    • @patriot-hz1dy
