If you choose to skip the new bypass and its toll and would like to drive through Hermosillo on your way down south through Mexico from the Nogales/Mariposa border, hopefully this video with its landmarks will help.
Border Crossing: US to Mexico at Mariposa in Nogales, Arizona
Переглядів 67 тис.5 років тому
If you've wanted to drive to Mexico but are intimidated by the border crossing process, don't be! Here's a basic "how to" video from our dash cam. Highway 15 from Nogales to Guaymas is an excellent highway, practically brand new and still under construction in some places. Music by: Ben Sound
We are retiring to Mexico!

We sold our house in Cheyenne, Wyoming and pared down over 4,000 sq. ft. into this pickup. Our 3 dogs and us are headed to San Carlos, Mexico to start the next chapter!

    When you say "$300" for the Something to declare line.... Is the 300 figured on the items you intend to leave in Mexico when you head north again? I travel with a thousand dollars worth of surf boards, but of course they come north/home with me

    • @MexiGringos-kq4xq
      @MexiGringos-kq4xq Рік тому

      You are allowed to bring in your personal belongings and luggage into Mexico duty-free and also $300USD worth of merchandise (family members in the same vehicle can combine this amount, so 2 people can bring in $600 for example). But you should have receipts in case you get stopped. I think personal items are more like clothing and household goods, but I'm not positive. It doesn't matter if you're taking things back out. We've had friends bring similar items across (kayaks, etc.) and have had no problem, but your experience could be different. And of course it can always depend on the agent you get too. I would check with people who actually come to Mexico to surf. Good luck!

      @@aaronlane8276 You'll want to double check the USBP rules for importing vehicles into the USA. Unfortunately, a lot of vehicles that are sold for the Mexican market don't meet the safety and emissions requirements of the USA. And if they don't conform or can't be made to conform to the rules, you can't legally import it. You can still drive it in the USA temporarily, but you can't register it and probably not even get it insured.

    Everything has changed from what I see on your video. This is not the experience we had. From the "U.S. Customs and Border Protection" go exactly 14 miles/22.5 km to Post KM 21 aka search on Google maps "Tourist visa and vehicle importation KM 21". There you stand in a line outside to get in. There are bathrooms they ask for 5 pesos. It's just a concoction of small white and blue building. They sell Auto Insurance also.

    When entering Mexico there is one document that you must get and two that you might need. The one that you must get is a visitor permit called a FMM. Some people call it a visa but you do not need a visa to enter Mexico, you need a FMM. If you filled out a FMM online, you must get it stamped at a customs office. There is one when you first enter Mexico on the Mariposa gate and one south on highway 15 at K21 . The permits you might need are vehicle permits, "Sonora Solo", to drive in Sonora south of the Empalme area or east of federal highway 15 south of Imuris, and "all of Mexico" to travel out of Sonora. Those two vehicle permits can be obtained at K21 and K87 which is south of Empalme about 15 miles. If you are traveling to Hermisillo, Guaymas, or San Carlos, you are in what the call the "no hassle zone" and do not need a vehicle permit. If you get your a vehicle permit at either office, (K21, K87) you must return it at K21. If you don't need a vehicle permit at all, you should get your FMM at the office to your right immediately after entering Mexico at minute 1:47 of this video. That is because you can fill out the form and PAY for it there. If you go to K21 for it, you have to pay at the Banercito nearby, but, you will be in the same line as those paying for vehicle permits. If you are in that line at at a time that many people are entering, like Easter week or Christmas, you better have a folding chair because you will be spending hours in line. Highway 15 is almost completed at Nov, '19 so you should have smooth sailing to Guaymas, about 5 hours south.

      @paulgregory8022 4 роки тому

      @Hofe Thare Only border towns. Not too exciting except there is more danger if you get off the thoroughfares. With the FMM you can go 250 miles south to Guymas and San Carlos which is a US and Canadian vacation town November to June. Good fishing in the Gulf of California.
