I still can't get over how good those open rolls sound with match grip
17 years later and I'm still stunned by how good those open rolls sound on snare with matched grip
Timpani player is going bonkers omg
Jesus god that’s nice
The bass tuning is pretty sick, too.
Great high school book 🤣
I see you have been hating on more than one of these 05' SCV videos. I hope you are not an educator. Especially with the portfolio that your youtube channel has to offer..
@@jacobboudreaux1117 nope. Im not. Thanks for checkin out my channel btw! 👍
Dude plays _Incubus_ covers on drumset and thinks he has any authority to judge one of the greatest marching percussion writers of all time. That's like some guy playing Smoke On The Water on his guitar and then calling Tim Henson's playing easy.
@RuFi0000000 I didn't have to judge them. The judges on finals night did that perfectly fine and gave them 10th. Btw, thanks for checking out my videos!
@RuFi0000000 also, just because someone's written something good doesn't mean they also can't write shit. Like I said, getting 10th knocked them down a couple pegs. Actually it knocked them down alot of pegs. Lol. Didn't go back to match, and didn't win drums again until Rennick came along like 11 years later.
How did he do that relax click at the end with one hand
He separates the stick so one of them hits first. He’s using the fulcrum to play a diddle (technically a ruff) with one stick and then playing the other one after
@@kobevo8527 Oh hey Kobe 😂 Thanks
Lol Wes bites on Wittys pump fake at the top of the ballad
What sucks is trying to find such players that play with their soul... This group took it to the next level the visuals out this world.. The book is beautiful I felt like I hurd something new, lines these days sound the same! Thanks for sharing
I wonder if there were any girls in this show
I get so happy when I see quad line with one spock drum.
this is what wgi 2021 will look like if we get a season
*insert joke about masks*
2005 was such a funky and banging book, and the only one Murray wrote for SCV. Plus, the match grip LOOKS SO BADASS! Iconic.
That's my barber!
???
@@kevinfolds4713 center snare is legit my barber, Zach.
@@definitelynottigerwhitten5865 center snare is Fred Emory Smith
This was a good line and still maintained that vintage SCV musicality. I've just always wondered what their motivation was for the switch to match grip that year?
Being over ambitious is my guess. 04 had a sick line and I guess they got a big head over it. Apart from the match grip, the unleveled snares and the fact that some are tilted forward more than others makes them simply look sloppy in my honest opinion.
If you are trying to achieve an even, consistent sound from hand to hand, then an asymmetric stick grip is illogical. Matched grip makes sense.
Gussack went over it in a podcast and he said the decision was a mixture of trying something different and also getting rid of the left handed issues that come with traditional grip (sound quality, technique issues, etc.).
@@joshuaduquez9835 What podcast, sir?
@@MoustacheCloud ua-cam.com/video/LaHZOZhC_YI/v-deo.html
murray gusseck is a fucking madlad
One of the best lines I have ever watched. Totally undervalued because of something as idiotic as "uhhhh... its matched grip... now they suck". I truly hope more World class programs will get into using matched grip. I personally love it.
Same. People try and act like traditional has some kind of advantage over matched, but in reality it is just preference. Not to mention matched is less limiting.
Uhhh..... no
This was 16 years ago and no one uses match grip....dont think it caught on there bud. Lol
@@RickDawg527 Dartmouth has been using matched for decades and is a pretty established line.
@@iambiglucas meant drum corp groups. Not HS lines. And Dartmouth had been doing it for awhile. Didnt do it as a fad.
It is the year 2019 and god I love these tasty fucking beats!
homeboy breaking the quad head on the tap off. respect.
Yo I think that's Stan Moore
I like how they all look at him
Book is damn tasty though, lots of cool syncopation.
Idk why I just don’t like the match grip
Dope.
Great players. But I just can't get past the matched grip thing. Don't know why it bothers me so much but it does.
its like shooting a free throw granny style; its slightly better technically but holy shit its embarrassing.
Bryan Fisher I can't personally say embarrassing. It just feels like all the other corps got the snare drummers and they went out and got quad players to come in and help out on the snare line. I know that's not true. It just has that feel.
i'm of the school of thought that if it looks stupid but works, it ain't stupid. i think the main reason that it looks weird is that the snares are so low, they probably are a little too low
It doesn’t look weird. The technique is loose and natural. What’s happening is that you aren’t used to it
@@milojohnson3057 well.....they got 10th i drums and never played match again.....soooooo.....i dont think it worked
body work - the show
"It's this big". Lol
Fuck ya!!
hahaha the muffled duts with those masks on
Best MCM 17 lot coverage I've seen yet. Great equipment and quality. Thanks!
First vanguard drumline I actually got to see, loved everything they do past and present..... (by the way some amazing quality video for being over ten years old, kudos to you for posting this)
Thanks for posting these 05 SCV vids! They got a lot of flack that year but I really enjoyed the composition and the way they played!
Drumline Archives Glad you enjoyed the video! And those carbon fiber drums 👌
is the opening marimba statement an original composition or sampled?
The one at 1:30? It's from Vertical River by Blake Tyson
Hey awesome video
