Hope the gear linkage is better than lhd models👍
Excellent on the gears. A treat to watch and listen to. So many drivers used to be too eager
Perfectly driven 👌🏻
Quality machine to drive
Nice gear changes

This is the only Leopard Video I've seen on UA-cam where it has a 2 speed axle. I would love to see a longer video of this coach. The normal five speed had a very long space between fourth and fifth, which often meant coaches would slow to 50-55mph before changing down with the engine at max revs. But top gear would take these well past 70 on the motorway, on my journeys back from London to B'ham in the 70s and early 80s I often saw the speedo indicating 80mph with the coach in the outside lane of the M1! I only went on a couple of Leopards with the 2 speed axle, and the half step between top and fourth made a huge difference in maintaining speed on hills. Anyway, if you get a chance to do another longer video of this coach with the gear change being shown I'd really enjoy it.
Much more power than the bedfords
Brings back memories.... including a school trip to Germany from North East on a 1972 leopard/panorama. Most memorable was seeing a one hitting 90mph for long stretches on the M1 (slight downhills) during the early hours in 1976 on an OK motor services one (Newcastle United supporters coach returning from London after league cup final with Man City... Newcastle lost! 😢)
Steptoe sure knows how to drive 😆👍😆
That fellas been about..
Wem, Shropshire, Brown's of Wem ?
Beautiful it needs to be saved. ❤
Double clutch very nice
Is this bus still in preservation?
yes it sure is
Your Boloxing Around with That Gear Changing ,

Caroline seagull over again wit out the splitter love it 😊
Love a r series
Can it reach 50mph?
it can do 62 but it’s very slow upto that it’s quite a lively ford!
@@lelandmccall4696 This engine has higher revving, I remember that I onboard on a Ford R1011 when I was young, it is underpower and really slow on highway, as slow as Leyland Victory MK2. At that time, I like onboard on a Isuzu MT112 coach, it is more powerful and can reach 60mph+, also I like the Isuzu engine sound. ua-cam.com/video/K_IGovBGb7E/v-deo.htmlsi=KUqGiGK0oIHlJT1b
Probably silly question but is that switch on the gear lever for a 2 speed axle or gearbox splitter ?
Driven properly too! What a beaut of a machine! 👌
A PSU3B/4RT Leopard with a splitter PneumoCyclic gearbox and wonderful sound effects.
PSU5/4RT even
Veri naise.
Great shifting there!! Lovely bus and sound. I've never come across one of those gear shifters to restore, just the basic 4 speed pneumatic here in Australia.
Awesome driving I fondly remember Barton’s buses having these as a kid used to get these with my dad to visit my gran
Been on that bus on internals at SVBM open weekend 2022. Boy it sure can take off
I used to drive for National Express back in the 80s in Liverpool we had lot's of our coaches like this, same gear box. I loved the sound of the mighty Leyland leopard, and Tiger
Is this the Coach that was capable of 100 mph . My uncle was a trucker in 70's and would often be overtaken at high speeds by a certain Coach by Black n White .
Why resting your foot on the clutch so much
Interesting :-). Very interesting indeed :-). Excellent footage :-).
thank you very much!
This one reminds me the SKODA 706
Great to see double de clutching on change ups. 👍
Love that sound
Brilliant, could do with power steering ! Excellent gear changing, I've never seen a splitter used on a semi auto before. What order do you go through the gears?
That is how to drive a Leopard, with a splitter!
That is how to drive a Leopard, with a splitter!
Has this got a 2 speed axle? Is it 6 over 6?
Looks like the DAF Chinese 6 gearbox to me
@@murraydean2371 Chinese 6?
It's basically a back to front gear configuration, many Dafs of the time were fitted with this gearbox, drivers nicknamed them "Chinese six" or "Chinese Box". When you got used to them they were great to drive.
@murraydean2371 Ahh..I thought that they were fitted with ZF 6 speed gearboxes. This clears up my confusion. Thank you
You can tell the DAF 11.6 litre engine is very closely related to the Leyland 680.
I went on a Duple bodied Ford R1114 and wondered why the floor was completely flat then i remembered the wonderful sounding Ford Dover engine was on a slant
Only after 1977, before that the engines were vertical and there was a low engine cover.
The Dorset engine was upright@@split_pin
Andy give it a bit more fuel, open the smoke box up 😀👍
Wonderful sounding engine but way too underpowered for a coach.
it’s opened right out rob😂
