The move Bishop to b5 is amazing! Is it called a skewer instead of a pin? I really appreciate the nice lines and games. This method is better than using arrows because it encourages deeper thinking, and visualization, even if it takes more time, it's worth it.

I need to build my calculation muscles. I am rated 1500 USCF but feel that I’ve not developed good methodical skills. For example you said “count the material, you always start with that”. Admittedly, I don’t always do this. I was wondering if there is a good book that focuses primarily on the systematic approach to calculation. I remember reading Think Like a GM maybe 20 years ago but don’t want to revisit that one. Any good recommendations for this?

At the puzzel around 19 minutes or so, I found nf7+ kg8 ne4+ kh8 ng6+, forcing the opening of the H file with hxg6 followed by the quiet re6 and rh6+ forcing white to give up the queen for the rook on h7 after the check. Leads to almost the same position as your (more elegant) solution. I found it by following your own brute force technique of constantly calculating the different knight checks :) Awesome video!

Beside looking at checks, captures, forcing moves etc. I think it is also worth to do a kind of analysis of the tactical features in the position. In the first example there is the weak black backrank. There is a escape square on h7, but white has a bishop able to cover this square. Furthermore blacks rook und queen is on a diagonal of the same color as whites bishop. I the rook weren't there, Qa8 and Be4 would be straight forward.

    22:43 - be7 -- this leads to black defending the b pawn, or up 3-pawns (2 connected) for down-the-exchange.

There is a critical line I forgot to include in the video, and I see some of you are commenting on it. In the 2nd position, 1. c5 does look quite crushing, but Black has the incredible resource 1... Kd7! escaping to e8. Thanks for the comments, and I hope you continue to enjoy my videos!

I bought your beginner chess course. Great course that has improved my chess thinking, especially how to spot threats and defend against them. I have one complaint, though. The speed with which you reveal the answers spoils the fun of self-learning. This annoyed me a lot about the course as I get the answers revealed with the message "time up" while I was still considering the options. Could you please change this feature of the course so that the answers are revealed only after the learner makes their choice, however long it takes them to do this? Thank you.
