Sometimes large trout can be found hidden in plain sight; often in diminutive, overlooked places. There are reasons for this. Additionally, when the water is high it is still possible to find rising trout especially when a hatch is on. Join Andy Leitzinger on the River as he shares his insights on these phenomena.

If a fly fisher was allowed to have only a dozen types of flies, or maybe a half a dozen or even perhaps only one; what fly would they choose? If I had to choose one and only one fly, that fly would be versatile, humble, understated, impressionistic, effective, trustworthy, dependable, hardworking and easy to tie? In this video, Andy Leitzinger talks about a most favorite, indispensable fly pat...

At the Solstice, Andy Leitzinger offers a fly fisher’s message of optimism to a weary world. Wisdom passed down by his parents many years ago has sustained him during the darkest of times. “ We can choose to be like the shadows at the end of the day growing longer and darker and desiring to merge with the eventual night. Or we can be like the light between the shadows, holding on to hope at a t...

Well it's complicated and varies from stream to stream. In this video, join Andy Leitzinger as he bears witness to wild trout rising to a late spring spinner fall while also responding to early summer terrestrials.

Catch More Trout With Tandem Fly Fishing
Переглядів 3,9 тис.Рік тому
Fly fishing during multiple hatches can be frustrating especially when trout are feeding on multiple hatches or just under the surface and are ignoring your dry fly. What would happen if you were able to offer the trout a choice; between a dun and an emerger, or an attractor dry fly and a nymph, or two types of spinners, or a caddis and a midge? The simple answer is that you would catch more tr...

I fished Spring and Penns creek on 10/25 - 26. however didn't catch any. the temperature was 60 and shinny weather, looks like perfect condtion but the water was pretty low and found a lof of leaves. I did not see any rise, there were some hatches in the morning, the size was small such as #20-22. Other fishmen told me they had same experience like me. I tried to go fishing Pine creek and Slate run but gave up due to the fishing condition. Can you please advise me if late October and November before winter is challenge season.
Love the guitar music, but your voice talking ruins it . Best if you do a silent movie, Andy the second time watching was as bad as the first. Thank you for whispering.
Great video! So thoughtful and profound. I too am celebrating my 50th year of fly fishing, which started in PA, but has taken me elsewhere. So good to hear of your recovery.
What is the sulphur pattern you are using? Seems like it is would be too sparse to float with the weighted green weenie hanging off it.
You know what you are talking about. Just found your channel and subscribed. I know talent when I see it. Wow, I wish I could fish with you. Maybe I’ll fish Pens creek sometime and see ya on the stream. It’s hard to find anglers with your knowledge. I do appreciate your content, thanks!!!!!
Love fishing combo rigs !
What fly did you use to match the slate drake ?
@@richardfisher3656 I commonly use either a parachute adams or a slate gray rabbits foot “Usual” dry fly to imitate the Slate Drakes. Both work equally well.
Thank you so, so much for the wonderful video, and the sharing of your knowledge to help fishermen, and myself, to hopefully experience some successful autumn fly fishing. Going to tie some "inchworms" for sure over the next couple of days!
Hi Andy Trying to reach you about a speaking engagement Thanks Brian
Thanks Andy for a very well put together presentation. It's a pleasure to watch you fish a stream that you are so deeply attached and well connected to. Your 51 years of history with Penns is remarkable. I appreciate being able to draw on your wealth of knowledge and experience. Looking forward the next one. Nathan
Great video Andy. I absolutely love Penns. Thank you for sharing.
I wish I could fish where there were not people shoulder to shoulder tangling up in eachother. Where the fish don’t get absolutely demolished and eaten by people. Or where they don’t get snagged by South Americans and piled into trash bags and hauled away.
Explore new spots then dude, figure it out.
20" fish is not considered any thing special in Utah. Must be 22" in some lakes and streams to be a legal fish. 30" is not uncommon.😊
Great video. Thank you. I appreciate your explanations.
Another great video Andy … thank you!
Exquisite river full of trout, thanks for a great vid!
Andy! Excellent explanation how to seek out different lies, especially in higher water. Thanks for sharing.
In the mid 90's I fished many dozens of evenings on Spring Creek while attending Penn State. The sulfur orange hatches were something I'll never forget. So thick that the air looked hazy. Many evenings the only pattern that would work was the spinner. I figured out most of these techniques you covered by trial and error. One exception is the faster water. I'll keep that in mind for sure. Great tip!
Glorious !
I would use the mountain parachute midge
Get to the Fing point!!!
Thanks for the time and artistry you put into this video. Your case for your fly collection is pure eye candy and a real gem that I never have seen. More to the point, this looks like an excellent fly that might really work well and one I plan on tying real soon.
Andy, thanks for sharing. So many UA-camrs guard locations, tips and techniques like they're nuclear launch codes. I appreciate your respect for the sport, history, tradition, family, good friends and nature.
My second time back to re-watch…wonderful way to enjoy early morning coffee and plan my next venture into Central PA; transfer of knowledge is a lost art, thank you for sharing.
Will be there 26-27 Aug 24. From Nevada. Can’t wait. Son will graduate PSU this year. His grandfather graduated in ‘63. I hope to repeat the pilgrimage often. Sir, you are a Poet. Thank you for sharing.
Great video Andy. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I like this guy I like his presentation, but I don’t appreciate the music. It’s just strange the whole program - - I don’t know why it is some of these people in the Fly fishing industry feel they have to have loud music playing which almost drowned out what they have to say. I’m not proofing this so there will be type of graphical errors, but I want to get it out. John IFFF MCI
Well Done! Thank for sharing.
That's a a wooly with a haircut.
Beautiful poetry at the end of your memoir. Exceptionally well done and written. Praying for your continued good health and thank you for sharing.
Great video, grew up in Pa, now in Virginia. Would have loved to learn some things from you, especially the part about enjoying God's creation. Now 75, I realize how much I took for granted and never really appreciated what I had growing up..
The whole dang thing was useful! Excellent video. Reminds me of those evenings I spent listening to my own old timer mentor in the river.
nothing like private property trout fishing. public fishing doesn't look like this...
Looks Like My First Thompson A Vise? I graduated up to a Renzetti Apprentice. Plus my original Hackle Pliers! Started tying at 12. I'll be 70 in November. They might even take it as a cased caddis too. I will try these! Thanks!
This is a fine example of what a person pursuing the art of fly fishing should aspire to become!!!
Plz more geology vids!
Did you make your 51st year?
What’s nice about this video is the guy explains to you what flies are hatching and what flies he’s using. Most of these flyfisherman are snobs they won’t tell you what’s going on.
What an awesome awesome video Thank you so mush for putting these pointers out so that we can have more success catching more Trout
I’m planning to do my first visit to penne creek soon I’m excited. But idk where to go for my first time. I live in Lancaster pa and I’m tired of our washed out streams
Hi , did i miss it , what size hook are you using in this vid please, thank you ,David.
WONDERFULL ! anybody and everybody who enjoys the outdoors should watch your video, and get goose bumps like I did
WONDERFULL every body that enjoys the outdoors should watch your video, and get goose bumps like I did.
Amazing writing/story telling Andy. Fly fishing does take your breath away, and is the best way to connect with nature/God/creator. Cheers to many more years for you!
and game warden...........
What spot On Penns would you recommend a first Time fly fisherman starting on Penns?
Anywhere in the vicinity of Poe Paddy State Park upstream and downstream are good locations to start. Below the tunnel above Poe Paddy if you don’t mind hiking in are good places to start Penns as well. Be careful wading and bring a wading staff at all times.
@@apennsylvaniajournalwithan9866thx
Thank you! I just started fly fishing this year and experienced my first spinner fall tonight and last night I'm so glad I watched this video before then, I caught a bunch of fish and stood in the river till it was dangerously dark😂
Mark, great to hear you had a blast during your first spinner fall. What stream were you fishing?
@apennsylvaniajournalwithan9866 it was the north fork of the mills river in Western north carolina, im having a hard time keeping my dry flies floating any suggestions?
Never thought about fishing an inchworm, pretty clever. Exquisite little river!
My #1 fly is the Mosquito. Mosquitos are out year-round and it never fails when the fish are biting.
Don't hold the fish out of the water so long....
Absolutely wonderful video!! Great narration and explanations.
Thanks Scott. Hope you are doing well and having fun out there.
