Choosing the Correct Pickleball Shoes
Переглядів 16 тис.3 роки тому
If you’ve been shopping for shoes to play pickleball in, then you know there are tons of options out there. You also know it’s important to wear the correct shoes-ones that are specifically designed for pickleball. Watch this video on how to choose pickleball shoes.
Hi! Is there a link that you can share for the racks that you guys use? Thanks!
If playing doubles, doesn't the same 4 always end up playing together?
What is the etiquette for a single player wanting to join doubles?
What ideas do you have for indoor play, no wall or fence to attach to?
Excellent
This assumes people come off after 11...
Mind blown.
That was so helpful, interesting and informative. Thank you so much 😊
I personally use Merrell Moab hiking shoe for pickleball. I play pickleball 3 times a week, 3 hours each time and they give me great support to not roll my foot and hurt my ankle.
Hi, which specific Merrell moab are you using? Im interested to check that shoe as well
I have a little arthritis in my hips. I'm looking for the court shoe with the absolute best shock absorption/ cushion.
Good advice! Thank you.
Can you use cross-training shoes for tennis and pickleball?
On the serve is the server suppose to call the score or can his partner call the score
I play ALL the balls unless I see them clearly out. I always give my opponent the benefit of the doubt making the calls. I come from tennis and unless you call the ball out, the ball is good. I thank you for giving us the rule changes and the drop video on adding spin to the ball by dropping down. I will need to practice that to use in a game. I am a beginner just learning the basics. Thank you for covering the rule changes.
Allowing the call of the score while serving is a bad rule. I want to hear the score clearly before it's muffled by the crack of the ball or I don't returning it.
Calling score is so silly.
What is proper decorum if they call the wrong score during the serve?
This advice works for most people but not all. I have strong ankles but problem knees. Court shoes are too rigid for me, my feet and knees always hurt after games. It’s like running on a brick. I’ve tried Kswiss and Asics brands. I wear Merrell trail runners ( not regular running shoes) They are more flexible but have lateral stability and keep your foot in a neutral position. I also play on the balls of my feet and find that easier in a flexible shoe.
Good response. Thanks for your input!
Umm sneakers !!!
Ha! That's what we called them growing up in the northeast!
What are you trying to do with the. Let serve and calling score while serving ? Speeding up the game. Not a good thing
Hi Robert. I agree. The new serve rule does seem to have that effect. I just reported my interpretation of the rule which I think is correct.
Try not to lean/fall back when you serve. You lose pace, accuracy, and balance... You should be leaning forward as you strike the ball.
Thanks. I'll watch that!
Five Star advice. If you wan't the best pair of Pickleball shoes for your feet start here. ★★★★★
Thanks for you nice comment!
Calling a ball in/out when it's that close to the line whilst playing, is pretty hard. No wonder there are so many disputes (and grumpy players) on court !
Calls are difficult. The angle of your view also makes a difference. In my view, you make a call and stick with it unless your partner saw it differently. Sorry for the late response and thanks for the comment.
Well explained thanks!
You're welcome!
The hole of the ball has to be past the line to be out . ... not the center of the ball but the diameter of the ball.
Thanks for the input Ed.
When u drop serve if you don’t like it dropped and don’t touch can you start again and how many chances do you have? Pls let me know thanks
That is my understanding. If you find out differently, please let us know. Sorry for the delayed response. I have been travelling.
One item that you displayed was for players who could not utilize their left arm to deliver the ball. You showed the serve where the ball lay on the face of the paddle then was allowed to drop to the surface for the serve. I have been under the impression that this paddle lay serve was available for all players, with or without any disability. The reason for my query is that I have witnessed players who have allowed the ball to lay flat on the paddle, then generate some topspin on the ball prior to the ball landing on the surface, and then follow through with a topspin serve. Having some topspin prior to launching the ball gives a server an advantage. I am curious whether the intent of the new ruling was for the ball to simply fall from the paddle without allowing the server to generate spin.
You bring up a good point. I went back and reviewed the rules and found nothing regarding your question. It appears that as long as a person doesn't propel the ball upward while trying to impart spin, it would be legal. If you find a different answer, please let me know.
Drop serve is a great addition to the game It’s challenging and fun. I hope it becomes the permanent part of the game
Thanks for the comment. It does add a new dimension.
My question is do you have to drop from above the head or can you drop from at the waist? For someone serving low, this works great and in fact helps new players imo
@@almosthomeutah Hi Dawn, just from my experience, if u drop from above head the ball will bounce higher so you can hit at higher level less likely to hit the net serve, now if bounce from waist height the bounce would be low, you had bend down to hit a sever to go above the net; whatever works for any one is good
I have mastered both forehand and backhand drop serves, add spin and force to them makes it tough 💫
Who is making the call? If your opponent is calling close balls out then return the favor!
I hear what your saying but I would still try to make the call as you see it. It's too hard judge a call made by an opponent because the ball is so far away.
If the gap is too thin, call it in!
Ha! Catchy, isn't it?
Should have mentioned that the drop serve ball can be dropped in the court as long as your feet don't step in before contacting the ball.
True statement.
Can one throw the ball up in the air then hit it as it rises from the ground?
You may not throw the ball up. It can only be dropped.
If a player uses the old method of serving, do the old rules (below navel, upward arc, paddle no higher than wrist at impact) still apply? In other words, does the elimination of these rules only apply when doing the drop serve?
You are correct. The old rules still apply for the old method of serving.
great video!
Thank you. I appreciate the comment!
What recourse does the receiving team have if the sever calls an incorrect score just before serving, with no time for the receiver to stop and correct the score before play begins? Can the server turn his body to block the view of the ball being dropped, to disguise spin, etc?
Here are the rules regarding wrong score called. 4.K. Wrong Score Called. If the server or referee calls the wrong score, any player may stop play before the return of serve to ask for a correction. 4.K.1. If the score was incorrect, the player or referee will call the correct score and the ball will be re-served with no penalty. 4.K.2. After the score has been called, a player who stops play to challenge the score when there is no error will have committed a fault. 4.K.3. A player who stops play after the return of serve will have committed a fault and shall lose the rally. I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer your second question. I would assume as long as all serving rules are followed, you could turn your body in such a way as to block the view of the receiver but it would be pretty difficult.
Rule 4.A.8.a Servers must release the ball from one of the server’s hands or dropped off the server’s paddle face from any natural (un-aided) height and hit the ball after the ball bounces on the playing surface. The server’s release of the ball must be visible to the referee and the receiver. In matches without a referee, the server’s release of the ball must be visible to the receiver. A replay shall be called before the return of serve if the release of the ball is not visible. The rules for feet placement (4.A.2 and 4.L) still apply. The receiver has to see the ball being released. In refereed games, both the receiver and referee must be able to see the release.
Is it very obvious and definite that the ball must be dropped and not thrown upwards? Otherwise, I could see some tricksters trying to get the ball to bounce higher, to get it to spin more.
The ball is not to be tossed upward either. There are always tricksters though, right?
Drop serves and let serves make the game much less playable for most players.
Let serves for sure. I really don't think the drop serves will be a problem. We'll see as more people adopt them.
@@onemoregamepickleballclub4548 A drop serve will allow for much more spin than currently possible. I know a couple of guys who hit enough backspin that no one in our club will be able to get to it let alone return it.
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
The people making the new rules should be embarrassed! Dumb rules!
Like them or not, all we can do is interpret the rules as best we can.
They took out the definition for service motion in the new rules. Maybe because if you miss the ball you can try again till your 10 seconds is up. It does allow for that quick serve that you demonstrated. It would be a bad habit if you play refed games, because you must wait for the ref to call the score.
Good point regarding refed games.
@@onemoregamepickleballclub4548 Actually the change applies to ref'd games as well. Most of the new rules have to do with the fact that timing is now based on the actual serve, not the call of the score. Thus the rule is the same in a refereed game, the service motion may start, but serve can't happen until the whole score has been called. Of course, in a refereed game if you start your assuming the ref is going to keep the same cadence has he/she has in the past.
So, question (and thanks for the video). If I drop the ball to serve, but it lands funny and bounces in such a way that I can't hit it. Is that a fault and I lose the serve? Or do I have 10 seconds to try again? (Just curious)
Here is the rule - 4.A.8.b. Before bouncing on the ground, the ball shall not be propelled (thrown) downward or tossed or hit upward with the paddle. Failure to drop the ball properly will result in a fault. There is no restriction on where the ball can land on the playing surface after it is dropped (providing 4.A.2 is satisfied) nor how many times within the 10 seconds after the score is called the server may drop the ball. So as long as you serve within 10 seconds, you can drop it again.
Great video! Thank you so much!!! One question. In rec play: Let's say the server throw down the ball instead of dropping it. After you mention it to him or her, are they allowed to say that they did not know they were doing it wrong and serve again or do they simply loose the serve? Thanks again.
Technically It's a fault. 4.A.8.b. In a rec game I would probably correct them and let them serve again.
