Incredibly inaccurate description of the Saga 409. The boat was laid up at Pacific Seacraft in Fullerton, CA and finished at Westerly Marine in Santa Anna, CA not Seattle. The hull is fiberglass over Kevlar not carbon fiber. The rudder is a carbon fiber foil. Hull numbers ran from 001 to 018 with no 013 being built. Other than a poor description the Saga 409 is a fantastic boat!

My friend, Jan Flammer, had her built as the second 48T aft cockpit after sailing BRAVURA. Which was the first aft cockpit 48T which was owned by me , designed by myself and Scott Sprague in 1986. BRAVURA was built in the Hansa yard while this boat was, I believe, built by King Dragon. I saw her in San Diego when she was about 12 years old. Someone had really "done her wrong." But a subsequent owner spent a ton and brought into the fine shape you see in this video. 48Ts are fast, and comfortable . On several of our blue water passages 200nm a day were common. A truly great boat. As far as I know only 3 aft cockpits were built. Mine, Jan's and a third boat, a ketch, that was send to the UK for finishing. The deck mould was destroyed when Hans Christian made the ill-fated move to Thailand. So unfortunately they are the last and only examples of this fine vessel.

A beautiful cutter, no question. I tried to get an idea of the size of the anchor chain....but think it looks like 3/8"....I sure hope it is actually 1/2". I was one of two boats that held their anchor in Tahiti during one of their 7 hurricanes in 81-82. Every boat over 40' except mine and one other that had 1/2 chain broke their gear and went on the beach. -Veteran '66-68

Fantastic boat great finish too. There is a half dozen Catalina s at my dock, and I sailed on all of them . I love the way they sail . The best part is the customer service .

Boat is nice, but lacks storage for cruising. Another drawback is; where are the drawers, all the cabinet doors opening sideways and down are not the best design.

Thanks for the tour. But does anyone know if someone could escape from the owner’s cabin if there was a fire? The deck hatch seems too high off the bed to get out unless the person has something to stand on that is sturdy @19:22.
