“As We Light” is an original composition that was composed this Advent 2024.
I took inspiration of the longstanding liturgical practice and tradition of lighting the Advent Candles of Hope, Peace Joy and Love over the 4 Sundays during each Advent season, with the final white Candle of Christ being lit on Christmas Day.
“As We Light” takes us through the journey of lighting each Advent candle that:
Jesus brings hope to a dark and troubled world. As the Prince of Peace, His peace dwells in us. His joy is our strength and He brings us an eternal perfect love that comes from God.
The chorus is our response and prayer to God to light up the candle lights of our hearts, that as we wait for “that Christmas morn”, may God fan that sacred flame as we invite hope, peace, joy and love to come to us.
We reach the climax of the song (the end of Advent and the beginning of Christmastide) at the last verse as we light the white candle of Christ. We welcome our Saviour, Lord and friend”, our “Immanuel, God with us” and affirm positively that “He’s with us”.
It is my prayer that “As We Light” be a song that help us remember the liturgical significance of this longstanding practice.
