According to the "Xilutang Qintong" | Arranged by Yao Bingyan
This piece is only found in the Ming Dynasty's "Xilutang Qintong" and is traditionally attributed to Ji Kang. It is a depiction of the lamentation that erupted from the grievances of ancient feudal emperors who persecuted him. There are many historical stories about Ji Kang's encounters with the divine and the transmission of the guqin. At the age of forty, Ji Kang was framed by Zhong Hui and killed by Sima Zhao, which was a great injustice. Later generations, feeling wronged on his behalf, claimed that the ghosts and gods had inspired the music, suggesting that it was not composed by Ji Kang himself. Considering the period of transmission, it is likely a work from before the Ming Dynasty.
The entire piece is divided into four main sections:
1. Night Guqin, Ghostly Apparition
2. Wind and Thunder, Ghostly Lament
3. Deep Resentment, Calling to Heaven
4. Rooster Crowing, Drumming

此曲只存見於明代《西麓堂琴統》，相傳為嵇康所作，是一幅被古代封建帝王迫害下飲恨九泉所迸發出來的怨鳴圖景。歷史上關於嵇康遇神和傳琴的故事不少。嵇康四十歲那年，遭鍾會構陷，被司馬昭所殺，原是一大冤案，後人不平，替他鳴冤叫屈，乃假託鬼神譜入琴中，應非嵇康所作。就傳譜時期來看，應當是明代以前作品。
