Camino Portugués, Variante Espiritual from Pontevedra
When walking Caminho de Santiago Portugués, you can choose the Spiritual variant/way towards the end of the camino. The variant goes west three kilometers after Pontevedra. You leave the coast in Combarro, and cross a peninsula to the north and north-east. From Combarro there is a steep climb. We pass A Armenteira before taking the Ruta Piedra y del Agua on our way down towards the sea again in Vilanova de Arousa. The next morning you can take a boat from this town to Pontecesures. There you meet the main route again and follow it to Santiago.

The Camino takes you through Ágreda, Pozalmuro, Soria, Abejar, San Leonardo de Yagüe to Santo Domingo de Silos. MUY BONITO EL VÍDEO. GRACIAS
@@juanmartinez8331 Thank you!
No visit to O Santiaguiño do Monte?
No, sorry! We didn't go up there
I'm hoping to walk this section sometime this October, I just need to take care of an injured knee while walking the route.
Buen camino!
@@bjrgtvetenester9417I walked this route recently, starting on 18th October 2024 and finishing on the 25th October. The route was much tougher than I expected, mainly due to the 30°C on most days and many stages that had no villages in-between and very little shade. I only met 6 other pilgrims on the route during the 7 days, and each day I was walking on my own for all of the day, apart from one or two mornings where I briefly met some of the others, most of whom had started their Camino Mozárabe in Almería. For me, this was my second section on the Camino Mozárabe, having walked the first section, Almería to Granada, in October 2022. The terrain is quite monotonous in places, but there are some lovely towns and villages along the route. Next year, hopefully, I'll be aiming to do the next section from Córdoba to Mérida. As I live in Madrid, it's quite easy to get to these places by train to start my Camino.
@@markdonovan1540 Interesting! Good luck with the next section! I have just returned from Camino San Salvador.
It looks very solitary. Did you meet any other perigrinos?
No! Not a single peregrino for 17 days. But a very nice camino!
Me ha gustado mucho. Buen camino peregrinos
@@juanmartinez8331 ¡Gracias!
Hi. Excellent video. May i ask how difficult were the climbs? We go next week. I have completed The Norte, The Portuguese and the Salvador but this looks quite difficult 😊 Daniel
It is difficult to say something about the level of difficulty, because we hikers are so different. But I don't think this camino is very difficult. There are few really steep climbs. It's more about the fact that in the course of a day you can go up or down a good number of meters in height, and I remember some rather long stages, ... but remember that we are an older couple. :) The hikes in dry rivers were perhaps the most tiring. But we have walked many, many caminos, and this one is still high on the list of those we remember with pleasure.
@@bjrgtvetenester9417 Thank you so much for your reply and the info. Yes despite some tough climbs the Salvador was high on my list of Caminos I enjoyed. Looking forward to next week and more so after your great video.
👍🥾
How can I contact you in private about this route? We are planning to walk this, after the Ebro at Gallur, which we start in about 10 days time. Thank you Joe & Alison

Loved watching this, for your choice of route how many days did it take to get to Montserrat ? I would probably do it in September
Thank you! We used 14 days to Montserrat. If you are a younger person, you can make it with less days. We are 71 and 73, and do not walk that long distances any more.
@@bjrgtvetenester9417 I am just looking for accommodations along the route, I have most of the route sorted but some I cannot find any. Is it possible for you to share the places you stayed at?

Can you share what maps/resources you used for this section? I’d love to try it. Thx!
Since this is some years ago, I had not started using GPS. Our main source was the guidebook from Topo Guides FF Randonnée, "La Traversée des Pyrénées. Pyrénées Occidentales." BUT you use it backwards! I have used several of their guides in France, and find them very good. As far as I can remember the marking was quite good. We got some bad weather, and I should have liked to walk there ones more, but now I am 71 years old, and must be a bit realistic. 😀
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos of your Camino. Buen Camino.
Thank you very much! Always nice to hear that people like my videos.
Again I enjoyed watching one of your videos very much. Thank you for sharing!

Me encanta

I am seriously thinking of doing this towards the end of the year or early next year. Are there plenty of signs…is it easy to find the way ? Especially from Almeria to Granada ….thanks
Whether it is "plenty of signs" and "easy to find the way" depends on what you compare with. It is not marked like the French route of course, but it is well marked all the way. In this sense, the route is better marked than some of the other routes from the south-east of Spain. We had no problems finding our way. If you have walked many routes, you will probably find that this one is among the better when it comes to markings. Asociación de Almeria does a very good job! Here is the address of their site: www.caminozorabesantiago.com/ Here is the address of the guide which is constantly updated: drive.google.com/file/d/1AzQ2czJBF79OeyvzVkhPHkHaFBvAr1zp/view You will see that it has a lot of concrete information about the route, accommodation and map. Bon camino!

Thank you! 😀 You can see at the presentation at the start, that it is October/November - this year. We were very lucky! The weather was wonderful untill the cold, wind, and rain fall upon us in the beginning of November.
@@bjrgtvetenester9417 aha, I must have missed that bit. I live in Madrid, so I remember seeing news reports about heavy rains that you experienced there. Is there much infrastructure on the route? Were many albergues open, or just a few? It looks like a good route to do for me and my wife, because she is not such a keen walker like me, but she loves the coast and countryside in Spain.
You can find information about alojamiento here: www.caminodelalba.com/alojamiento.html After many years on many caminos, where I have slept on hundreds of albergues, we now prefer pension, hostal, hotel, and then we only sleep on albergue once in a while.
