Приєднався 1 лют 2018
Since forming in 2017, the Anglo-Irish all-female quintet have become festival sensations across the UK, Europe and Australasia, toured regularly at home and released a critically-lauded debut album. They also carry the distinction of being the first British act nominated for an award by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
Their all star lineup boasts Leanne Thorose, with her powerhouse vocals and driving mandolin; the virtuoso banjo playing and delicate vocals of Tabitha Benedict; Eleanor Wilkie and her rock solid bass grooves; the versatile Laura Carrivick, equally adept on both fiddle and dobro; and the lightning guitar playing of Charlotte Carrivick. Not only are they all masters of their respective instruments, but the vocal harmonies shared between the five women are second to none.
Their debut album, Fire, was released in February 2018 and followed up in June 2020 with Shadows on the Moon, released on Island Records.

One of three special video rewards as part of our Kickstarter 2021 summer tour fund. With thanks to Bruno for the support and song choice. We took some artistic license with Bruno's original request here, and added in the fiddle tune 'Back Up and Push', so perhaps we should really title this one 'Back Up and Push It'!
Willie Taylor - Midnight Skyracer

Another video for you! This is to go with Tabitha's choice for album of the week, 'She Waits for Night' by Uncle Earl. 'Willie Taylor' is an old English folk song, which tells the story of a young woman who dresses as a man and goes to sea in search of her lover, Willie. It doesn't end well for him...

You Will Be Waiting - Midnight Skyracer (Barenaked Ladies cover)

Part of our album of the week series. Eleanor's choice: 'Maybe You Should Drive' by Barenaked Ladies. Despite Bluegrass being Eleanor's favourite music, she wanted to pick an album that got listened to a lot throughout her teenage years and, in fact, is still listened to now. This album was Barenaked Ladies' 2nd album, recorded in 1994 and this song was played for the 'first dance' at Eleanor's...

Last week we started our new Album of the Week series and Laura chose first with Dean Martin's 'Swingin' Down Yonder'. We had planned to video a cover version of one of the tracks by the end of the week but the two newest members of our backstage crew weren't playing ball... So, here is 'Just a Little Bit South of North Carolina', just a couple of days late with (if you listen too closely) back...
Midnight Skyracer #SundayShowcase No.18: This Flower
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
It's Mother's Day here in the UK, so we're dedicating this one to all of our mothers. 'This Flower' was written by Australian country artist Kasey Chambers, whose music Charlotte and Laura first discovered whilst living in Australia as teenagers and where she was number 1 in the charts at the time. We felt like it was the perfect song for today. 🌻🌷🌼

Here's Charlotte x 3 with a lovely gentle song for a Sunday afternoon... "I was struggling for ages to think what to do for this video. A couple of days ago I was listening to a Gillian Welch album I hadn't heard before and I really liked this song so thought I'd give it a go. In an ideal world I'd have got some of the others involved but, with it being so last minute, it was simplest to do it ...

"I’ve always loved Tim O’Brien’s version of this song “Buffalo Skinners” on his album “Fiddler's Green”, so I decided to do a quick version of it for you all! I roped Eleanor in to playing some lovely bass, and the rest is history!" - Tabitha

Now this one's a bit of fun: Eleanor and Leanne have paired up to bring you some 90s country for #SundayShowcase no. 14! Happy Valentine's Day! ❤️ "Who remembers Country Music Television in the 90s? I really miss it. 'Be My Baby Tonight' by John Michael Montgomery was one of the songs that I looked forward to coming on, but I never tried performing it...until now! New Years Resolution No.5 - Introduction to Bluegrass Guitar with Charlotte Carrivick

If you already play a bit of guitar of any style, Charlotte will give you a thorough grounding in the bluegrass guitar style in this video. It's the last day of January, so this will be the last video in our series of suggested New Year's Resolution (take up/work on an instrument) videos. We may do some more at some point though as it seems you've enjoyed them, and with only 5 weekends in Janua...
Midnight Skyracer #SundayShowcase No. 13: Scotland - Laura Carrivick, Leanne Thorose, Eleanor Wilkie

We did have this planned as our next #SundayShowcase but it makes much more sense to share today - happy Burns night! 🏴🎻🎻🎻 With 3 fiddlers in the band (actually 5 - Charlotte and Tabitha both play beautifully with a bit of persuasion) we had to include a triple fiddle number! Laura picked 'Scotland', originally by Bill Monroe. It was a challenge to pull together long distance but good fun, ...

I'm trying to learn the steal string guitar. They say the dobro plays the same way, just a different sound.
Amazing vocals and unbelievable musicians. So beautiful and sound as good as y'all look. The best of all worlds.
Excellent. Always great to hear Lynn Morris's stuff. I had the pleasure of being taught by her at a summer school about 20 years ago. A lovely person.
It looks like you're playing a ukulele but with souble strings. Love the song. I researched it and it was created by Charley Jorden around 1930. I started playing the ukulele 2 years ago and was really movitated by your version of this song.
beatiful lady
Awesome cover!
Fabulous
Thanks for that introductory video :) what is the open d tuning you use at the end? I want to try a bit of dobro style on my acoustic to see if I like it before splashing out on an actual dobro. Can I use D,G,D,G,B,D like banjo g tuning?
Do you ever get confused mentally switching back from regular guitar tuning to the dobro tuning?
Also i put slick stainless steel strings on mine love the sound, so close to a pedal steel
Cool,well done,ihave a 1996 K A Y
Absolutely beautiful - and the Dobro and playing wasn't bad either! 🤍😜✌
That child is getting the best start in life a kid can get being close to mum and music beutiful job.
We call them resonator guitars if they’re not Dobro brand.
Great groove on that mandolin, nice vocals, banjo, and fiddle.
I lived to see white girls doing this.
Dobro also mean "Yes" in Jugoslavia....
dobro from Slovakia
Y'all are some fun ladies!
:)
We are referencing this cover on our podcast this week (episode 309) and sharing a brief snippet of the song. We loved it. Thank you

"I play the fiddle in the band as well as this.." what a lady!
Thanks
Hello from Australia.!
What is the person's name
is that a dobro or a mosorite
Just for the record, Dobro means Good in Serbian. :)
I suppose anyone can call anything whatever they want and maybe I'm wrong but I don't hear many underhand blues resonator guitarists calling it a dobro. It's really more about the technique and tuning more than it is about the sound but in GENERAL, dobros are overhand played. And they're used for country, bluegrass, folk etc. Resonator guitars are in GENERAL, played underhand and used for blues. They're also more likely to use a spider bridge but from what I hear, some dobros do have a biscuit bridge. Also, I'm only just learning about dobro style but from what I gather, they use a tuning they call open G and it's tuned to a G chord. But blues also uses a tuning that they call open G, also a G chord, but it's a different tuning. So G B D G B D for dobro and for blues it's D G D G B D. The first is easier for melodies and major keys and the latter makes a driving sound easier and is bluesey.
sounds better on bass guitar since you can EQ it and stuff to get it to sound less dead
The bar is generally referred to as a steel in my experience. I prefer the one with a rounded tip end.
Status Quo did a great cover of honky tonk angel / wild side of life, Thanks Laura, interesting bit of kit !
I always wanted to play a dobro but have never tried. I do play a regular guitar
Cool.
Pretty crazy figuring on that guitar - mad quilting all over the top and sides. Beautiful!
It's amazing how my tolerance for dull instructional videos increases proportionally to the youth and beauty of the instructor.
I got my Dobro at 15 I learned by Josh Graves.. the father of the dobro guitar.. he was not only teacher but a dear friend. He took a young girl and me a gift of the love of this instrument. My guitar is signed by EE DOPERA. Signed 1973.. on my guitar on the wood.. I met him in 1972 he was 85.. what a wonderful man. He was happy to see a young girl play his dobro guitar.. I am grateful for also my daddy who started us kids in a bluegrass singing family band.. Watkins family... I'm one of the girls.. Kate.. i play bass too .. i play guitar and sing. I love this music.. it was my daddies dream❤. Thank you Kate Watkins Jarvis
I've played this Wonderful Dobro guitar over 50 years.. what a blessing ❣️🌹🌹💓💯
Josh is the uncle Knoxville Tennessee own Ted Graves. Ted brother is a well-known Dobro player in Nashville.
How can I take lesson from you?
Dobro is good!
Damn this is awesome.
I'm only about 9 months into my guitar playing and really struggling to use a pick, this lesson is great! Thank you ❤
Beautiful ❤❤
Brilliant!
What a great band, and song.
Oh no, I just found them now
