Community Guitar
Приєднався 13 вер 2017
Community Guitar offers acoustic guitar instruction for people who want to learn to jam with each other. That takes three things: the right songs, the right skills and the right people. We do our best to provide access to all three in one sweet spot. That sweet spot is located in Northampton, Massachusetts. The (usually) headless guitarist you see in these videos is Andrew Lawrence, who has been facilitating community making of various kinds since the mid-1990's. Whiskey Before Breakfast, B Section Solo 1 (simplified melody)
In the fall of 2024 we're starting with a classic fiddle tune, Whiskey Before Breakfast. Years ago we worked on the tune in C and capod up to D, much as Norman Blake plays it. Here we're diving straight into D, as that's the key we'll be working in the upcoming 10-week session. In addition to the videos in this playlist, participating Community Guitarists also get audio backing tracks and written music.

Folks had a hard time with the first version of this solo the second of three on this song so here's a slightly simpler one. Notice that it uses pretty much the same elements as the first version, so it can serve as a good example of how you might take the underlying elements (chord shapes, scales and scale forms, etc.) of any solo and use them to create your own. Nice tune
It looks like he's also strumming the rhythm while playing the melody, but I don't see how that is possible by looking at what his left hand is doing. Is he also using some machine to play rhythm while he plays melody? I can't tell. I went to his website, but it is a dead end. UPDATE: I watched the slower metronome example he gave and saw that a machine was keeping the rhythm. I wonder if I can pick this apart and somehow add the rhythm too. Wish me luck - I'm not that knowledgeable yet, but trying. By the way, does anyone know the key this is in? I didn't hear him say.
Smooth.
Very nice, please post more. Well done.
