even if the dub is awkward it plays perfectly into the themes of social dissolution in the show. like this is one case where the cringe dub actually fits really well
The character voices are so bland I fell asleep multiple times watching it. It’s like they are so jaded that they don’t care about anything and have given up on life. It plods so slowly and I furiously yelled ‘Just do something’ a million times.
It was never confirmed tbf. I think she's just supposed to be weird and not human like most people her age or gender. Like she sticks out from the rest and the revelation at the end makes sense as she never was human to begin with but craved normality in her life. That also explains the type of behavior she has, because she doesn't knows better what humanity is or being part of it.
In my journey of 15+ years of watching anime, I never seen Serial Experiments Lain, the only thing I have seen up until now are all the memes created by the community about the show... and really they are starting to spark my curiosity to watch it, lmao.

Yeah, this is why you shouldn't watch dub anime. Just watch the sub. Lain does alright with her stilted and awkward way of pausing her sentences since she's not used to human interaction, but holy crap, the other actors are real bad at conveying what the scene is supposed to and the translation/mouth animation line up just don't flow. I don't even remember the dialogue being this bad for the English dub, but here we are. It's almost unbearable. I have never found an English dub that's better than sub (except Ghost Stories).
as a kid seeing this by the end of the show I thought it was because Lain had basically been projecting behavior onto everyone unconsciously, and she couldnt actually handle that much detail of control but i mean, lol. it still fits though
This dub reminds me of being young enough to taste the rain on the wind coming through opened windows on a late springtime eve, the perfect twilight seeping across a living room actually lived in, CRT reflecting a face not yet tarnished by the entropy of time...
この吹き替えでは、ダメだ。日本語がベスト

Is Lain's voice actor the same as Satsuki from the Ghost Stories dub??
It's a new club that plays really good hardcore techno for a really hip young crowd!
0:37 Perfect VA for her
The line reading sounds like my IELTS listening test 😂
This HD version is so cool
TELL ME THE NAME OF THE ANIME PLEASE I'M BEGGING Y'ALL
Serial Experiments Lain
this is how i found out lain was saying psyche and not some japanese word and i dont know how to feel about that
Lain: I don't have male. I don't get it.
IT JUST HURTS HEARING THIS
That's an intentional mis-pronunciation of "Psyche", pronounced "Peshuge" on the title card, just like the computer chip the episode is about.
2:23 Pachinko

My favorite one is: "really hardcore techno for really hip young crowd"
Oh man, it’s been like 20 years and I still remember it like I washed it yesterday 😋
There's no dub in the world that's better than the original voice acting Maybe only souls game
I tought you were me
I love your take on the Lain English dub
Lain🤝Gawr Gura "A" 1:58
Name ? Story ?
I really need to get around to watching Lain at some point
Edit: I got around to watching Lain
The reason the dub is so bland is because it’s seen through lain’s perspective. She’s schizophrenic, and this is wha
Power lines: "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."
What anime?
lain
1:26 love how the deliveryman’s arm was in almost the same position as lain’s dad one second later
0:56 lmaooo it's so bad
0:25 me immediately after watching this anime
I refuse to believe this anime was made in the 90s, the style itself looks like it was from 2016.
Anime went low budget and mass production over time.
The English dub really captures her autistic side

@@justaemptymallye It was supposed to be a joke 💀
@@ambzuza469 Tbh I don't find autistic jokes that funny but you do you buddy :)
0:25 the ending be like:

They dont make stuff like this anymore.
the power lines sound is what always got me in this show
so jully... r u still getting... e-mail? E-MaiL? 0_0
Lain is everywhere. Happy Valentines Day.
yeah right, even cant even pronounce their Japanese word and that accent like the nane "Ha-ya-shi-ba-ra" to "Haa-yaa-shie-baar-ra"
The robotic voice acting fits for Lain, someone who's life is consumed by the wired, it's unnatural and kinda unsettling at times
I was always a fan of dubs like this that were filled with awkward voice acting.

It’s like an episode of the office, chock full of awkward silence and background noise
what anime is this
1:29 the anime
1:27 💀

She just like me fr
2:34 "Pashoekay" one of my favorite Lain quotes of all time
