Thank you kindly! This video was absolutely awesome. Learned a lot!
Hi Steven, Do you have part number to the rear bolts that need replaced? the one that need 100Nm torquing. I think you are calling it carrier bolt. I also hear that people just reuse them. Did you replace them or reuse them?
Follow the steps here to find it. ua-cam.com/video/qfENXu-KuZ4/v-deo.htmlsi=xd_fZ7bbzmvsD-hl&t=426 I reused it. I don't know whether i should replace or reuse it too...
thanks for the video. if I'm replacing both the rear rotors and pads, do I only do the OBD scanner (moving brakes back and forward) once after both sides are done?
Yes. Once is enough for both sides.
@@stevenstrackdays2687 Thanks for the quick reply. I would assume the detailed steps you provided on the video should be applicable for my 2020 Q5? Any thoughts on upgrading my Q5 rotors to drilled/slotted rotors vs OEM?
The steps should work for many Audi cars but I cannot 100% confirm because I don't have those cars. Generally you don't need drilled/slotted rotors for street. And even for track, the REAR drilled/slotted rotors are not necessary. Rear brakes barely overheating on track in my experience. So, for Q5, consider as pure visual upgrades...
How do you like EBS yellowstuff pads ? I am debating yellow or red from EBC for SQ5
Very bad for track. No experience for street.
Hey are the EBC Yellow stuff pads good for everyday driver ?
Sorry I don't know. It's not good for track for sure.
Hey are the EBC Yellow stuff pads good for everyday driver ?
Sorry I have almost no experience driving it on street. Very bad for track anyway.
OP - Not sure if you are still seeing this, but how do you like the ECS Tuning rotors that you used since you had them on for a while. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Would you buy them again? Thanks!
There wasn't another choice at that time. ECS ones were the only choice I found for track. Not really confirmed concerns. Maybe the so many drilled holds cause uneven and excessive worn? Not really sure. I will consider 034motorsports if I change. I just feel that 034motorsports is more professional.
I just let the handbrake off with some bricks under the tyres 😅
you start bleeding from right rear passenger brake and move on to left rear and than front passenger and last driver side … brake bleeding should start from furthest away from the brake reservoir tank
the service manual for the B9 states the exact opposite (I believe it's because of the ABS system). It's best to follow what the manufacturer is recommending.
if the abs is located in the driver side you start bleeding from the fartest away brake which is right rear ..
bro you're literally arguing with the service manual... i gave my best guess for the reason why it's this way
dont believe what the manual tells you! im a master tech and audi performance tuner … i build cars and i repair them … you bleed brakes farest first thats away from abs module .. trust me dont argue with me learn from a master and not what manual tells u… ur gonna ruin your master cylinder if you bleed your brakes what manual tells u to do
if the abs module is located in driver side you bleed the brake from far right rear and move to left rear and down to right front brake and left fromt brake
Nice job. Is the torque spec for the caliper bolts the same for the rear? I’m wondering if the rear bolts are 1 time use. I need to change my wheel bearings and your video has been a great guide for getting the calipers off
Check my rear brake video for the bolts: ua-cam.com/video/ASRu_a3juW8/v-deo.htmlsi=ejn3pFzwJjX4waT_ at 12m20s
Btw the bracket doesn’t need to come off for the brake line, there’s a clip that releases it from the bracket
Can you use the OBDEleven for the electronic parking brake?
Yep you can, it's what I use when I do my brakes
Awesome to see your track video. Looks fun maybe one day I’ll take my s4 to the track.
Great video. Thank you. What locations are you using for Jack stands? I'm a B9 2018 A5 Sportback. With my jack on the pinch weld, I'm wondering where to place stands.
No where... For front, there's a bolt at suspension connection that can be used for support. For rear, I don't know where. I just put the emergency jack (because it's very small) next to my regular jack in case of falling. You may buy Rennstand or quckjack.
Or something like this: AGM Products Jack Rod - Easy to Use Floor Jack Safety Tool. Rated for 3.5 Tons. Squeeze to Extend, Locks Automatically Squeeze to Remove. SUV, Truck, Car Jack NOT INCLUDED a.co/d/d5Qkp5n
@@stevenstrackdays2687 that jack rod is something I've imagined in my head for years and didn't realized someone finally made. That's great news.

Hi is the rear brake sensor on the driver side or passenger side? My pads came with 2 rear sensors and my mechanic only use one of the new sensor and the other wasn’t use.
Passenger/right side for my S4. RS need two sensors (one on each side).
@@stevenstrackdays2687 thank you! Also is the front 2 sensors or just 1 sensor for front driver or passenger side?
For A4 and S4, one sensor driver side. For RS4, two sensors.
Front sensor and rear sensor not compatible
@@stevenstrackdays2687 thank you again, mine is a 2021 S4 and front pads also came with 2 sensors just wanna be 100% sure.
hello, this is great info, but i am wondering have you ever heard or expierenced hearing a squeaky brake pedal after doing a brake flush? I have a 2020 S4 and after getting a fluid flush, my brake pedal squeaks - usually when releasing the pedal.
Sorry I didn't experience it. Do you have repair manuals? Maybe it's mentioned there.
@@stevenstrackdays2687 i do not, i will check for manuals. thank you!
Hi Steven, how can I reach out to you with a few questions about tracking with my 19 s5?
Crushed it, used this to do my 2020 RS5. Thanks for taking the time to put this out there!
Can I put new EBC red stuff brake pads without changing (OEM) rotors? Are red stuff pads compatible with original S5 B9 rotors?
Yes. You don't need to change rotors.
Thanks man! And what grease do you recomend for this?@@stevenstrackdays2687
Thanks for reply. Can you tell me, what grease do you recommend for pads?
Sorry I don't do grease reviews. It doesn't really matter because rear pads won't overheating even on track.
@@stevenstrackdays2687 got it, thanks
do i need the vcds or obd11 for the park brake or no?
Front no. Rear yes. Parking brake motor is only on rear brakes.
Please do check video description for latest tips!
What service manual did you use to get the bleed amounts? I have the brake system manual through erwin and don’t see that anywhere
Right, it's not there. I found the info in a file called "D4B805C61D2-Maintenance.pdf". I believe I downloaded it from the "maintenance" category in Erwin.
@@stevenstrackdays2687 thanks for the response!
NICE HOW PLANNED THE VIDEO IS FOR NICE CLEAN BOLT REMOVAL HAHAHAAA TRY TRY THAT ON A CAR ACTUALLY OUTSIDE!!!
Your videos are outstanding!
Thanks
You don't need that fancy $70 M10 TZN Stubby set. Turn the steering wheel to gain access to the bracket and caliper bolts. This will give you a full foot in there. For example, when working on the right front brake, turn the wheel to the left to access those bolts without special tools. I used the M10 bit from a $13 cheapo 'CASOMAN 9-Piece Low Profile Impact Triple Square Bit Socket Set' (amazon) and an old chunky husky wrench. Even this low profile kit is not needed, any old M10 laying around will fit. For the 21mm caliper bolt an 18" breaker bar is perfect once the wheel is turned, but a 24" would work too.
Nice tip. Added to video description.
Thanks for sharing this recommendation in detail, saved me some money from buying more tools (though I'll admit I'm still tempted because who doesn't love new tools 😂)
Where did you get this maintenance guide?
ua-cam.com/video/qfENXu-KuZ4/v-deo.html
Nice video but your voice over skills need work, you remind me of the automated tik tok text to voice guy. Lmao.
Sorry about that. I'm not a native speaker and definitely need more practice.
@@stevenstrackdays2687it’s okay man. He just doesn’t understand that English clearly isn’t your first language. Keep doing what your doing.
@@stevenstrackdays2687Don’t listen to this idiot. You speak good English and we are grateful for your tutorials and help
Thanks for this great video! Approximately how much new fluid would you end up adding in total to do a complete flush? I've got my first ever track day coming up in a couple of months, so I'll be upgrading my brake fluid (higher boiling point Motul RBF 600 or 660) soon, along with new pads, rotors, and ss brake lines. I'm assuming it'll be a little over 1L in my case, since I want to ensure that all of the old fluid is replaced. I've got a 2010 4.2L 6MT Audi S5 btw
For B9 models (year 2018+), it is 1L auto and 1.15L manual as I mentioned in the beginning of the video. For your model, unfortunately I'm not sure.
Fair enough @@stevenstrackdays2687 - thank you for the feedback anyway
Horray! Thank you for the detailed information!
Rather than using the OBD tool why not just not set the parking brake in the first place? If it only locks the rear caliper I don’t see why it would need to be set once the rear tires are off the ground.
Good point. I can't think of why your suggestion won't work. Please let me know if it works for you. Thanks!
For the absolute life of me I cannot get these pads in I have no idea what I’m doing wrong
Update, got them in, didn’t take 9 months but it was a pain lol
Where do you download these repair manuals? Do they have other systems like suspension, transmission or diffs?
Yes. See ua-cam.com/video/qfENXu-KuZ4/v-deo.html
What tool did you use to compress the caliper pistons?
a.co/d/1KeVqiE
Great step by step video .
No.
Are the carrier bolts the same length for upper and lower?
Yes
Thank you! Can I use this tutorial to replace the brake pads and rotors of 2018 B9 SQ5?
I'm not sure. Can you check your parts label? If the part numbers contain 1KD, 1KE, 1KF, 1KJ, 1KK, 2EJ, or 1KU, then you can use this video. How to find parts label? It should be near the spare tire. Check the beginning of my front brakes video.
Can you use any odb scanner or do you need a specific one for Audi?
I don't really know. If you already got one, just try it. If not, just buy one which supports Audi.
Cant i just retract manually? @@stevenstrackdays2687
Excellent driving sir!
Fantastic video. Audi A4 Quattro here. First ever DIY brake job. Driver side took almost 2 hours but with experience the other side took 20 minutes. Tomorrow will do the rear. Thank you for the video.
Do the rotors "have to" be changed with the pads? Front and/or back.
Not at all. Just thickness of "new" and "wear limit" here photos.app.goo.gl/Dw7URapc9oxtVMX26 Don't change rotors unless it's reaching the limit or too uneven (warped).
check the edge of the rotor, sometimes it'll tell you the minimum thickness on them (or the manufacture specs). Otherwise, no you don't have to if they're in good condition.
Did it have any hardware on, or is it not needed?
Thanks for this super detailed tutorial! It hasn’t been easy finding information on doing the brakes on this Audi platform so I’m appreciate your video. Would you recommend the yellow stuff pads still?
I don't recommend it...
Wait. Did I see 13/16 SAE socket?
you should never push brake fluid backwards - it can damage the abs system. open the calliper bolt as you push the pad back to release old fluid. put fresh fluid into the top reservoir. Other than that good video. I'd also clean the calliper with dragon blood to return to a new status. Yes, I have OCD.
Hi @richsmif, thanks for the advice. I checked the Audi repair manual again, but it didn't mention releasing fluid from the calipers. The manual simply stated that when pushing the fluid back, ensure it doesn't exceed the MAX level in the reservoir. I'm not a mechanic, so I can't determine whether the manual is right or wrong. I assume pushing the fluid back is okay or carries minimal risk.
yeah, the Audi manual even says to make sure the reservoir isn’t full because they tell you to do it the way you did
Hi Steve, please edit the tightening specs for caliper bolts👋👋
What track stats/display software are you using?
TrackAddict and RaceRender
Very confused for a second.. I had to look at the name of this channel more than once, to see if "Yaode Chain" Had changed his channel name. You guys sound exactly alike. Either way, thank you for brake videos, will come in handy once I get to that point, in my B9.
