The Barefoot Ranger
In 1884, Arthur Woody took his first breath up in the Blue Ridge range of north Georgia. Back then, mountain people like his parents lived in isolated log cabins with a patch of cultivated land hacked out of the endless forest. This was paradise . . . mostly. Arthur hated the farming part, but he loved learning the secrets of the woods and the habits of the animals with his father, Abraham.

At Lillian Smith's beautifully preserved Laurel Falls Camp for girls, we discovered the history of a Southern white woman whose courage, eloquence and prophetic vision helped end the Jim Crow culture in which she had been raised, freeing Black and white Southerners from a system that had cost Blacks their full humanity and whites their moral integrity.

Will Harris never planned to be an environmentalist. He wanted to be a farmer - more specifically, a cattleman like his father. He studied animal science at the University of Georgia, graduated in 1976, worked in agribusiness for a few years, and then came home to Bluffton in southwest Georgia, where his family had farmed since 1866. Now Harris continues a family legacy with White Oak Pastures ...

Quaker Road, a thin ribbon of concrete meandering through a green world 40 minutes south of Augusta in northern Burke County, winds past pecan groves, pastures and plowed fields. And then a few houses appear, a brick church, and across the road, perched at the edge of hundreds of acres of fields and forest, is a cluster of buildings, some of them crumbling after decades of abandonment. You have...

Fantastic story!!
I’m proud to be the first to comment! Most of all I am incredibly proud to be associated with the Lillian Smith Center and to call LES director, Matt Teutsch a colleague and friend 🙂
What a great story
May I graft an apple branch into a cottonwood tree?
How big of a scion can you use to graft to a non-fruit bearing tree? Or it has to be the most 4 buds.
The explanation of each step was fantastic. Thank you.
Such a great reflection! It was great being friends with you at Boggs! I have often thought of you and my heart always beams with pride when I see you in film. Abigail Brown Taylor
I was taught how to be a female at Boggs, at this school I found my lifelong desire to be an actress and I am acting still today. Boggs was extremely transformative in my life and I was able to mature there. For many years I was angry at my parents for sending me to Boggs but I s e now that they knew what I needed and sent me to Boggs to escape the dangers in the civil rights movement. My parents Rev Hosea and Mrs Juanita Williams did the best they could for me and I am eternally grateful ❤
Very impressive. I am so very proud to be a graduate of this great institution of the past. I wish that it was still in operation today.
A great documentary on Boggs Academy . Boggs was the best educational experience for me and my family. Two generations attended Boggs. Thank you , Augusta Magazine. Yes, Boggs has more to give to the world.
What a wonderful documentary! All very true…One of the best experiences of my life. The Boggs Academy National Alumni Association does still exist…We provide scholarships for our descendants & have an annual All-School Reunion annually…In 2024 it will be held in N.C. Caroline Whitcomb of Augusta, recently used Boggs for her educational doctoral dissertation!
Excellent documentary of the great Boggs Academy.

You may do everything in life slowly, BUT GRAFTING YOU MUST! DO SUPER FAST! ALWAYS
How is that anything to do with an espalier?
When you will cut of one of the stems? Thanks
Their prostitute from Vietnam sings this tragedy like she's frolicking in a field of flowers into her Jo and traffickers hands.
Came out of this place crippled. You're better off coming out of here safe and unscratched if you're white. I wish I knew that before I came here. I would not consider them LGBT allies, totally fake place.
I would of preferred you played the music at a lower volume, it detracted the man speaking Thanks to him for his instruction.
Thousands of lifetime projects with woodglut plans.
Do you sell the whole wheat berries and corn for grinding ?
Komiksin
Great video. Shared it to the plant group I'm in. I planted a pear seed last year, but I now know that it's probably not going to be a pear tree, probably an apple tree from the root stock if I'm understanding how this works. There are people around me with pear trees so I'm going to see if any of them will let me have a branch.
wow very cool
Why the music? Seriously why?
Thank you so much for your information
Could hardly hear the narration. And then the music made it unlistenable
What was the point of that hillbilly music drowning out the voice part in this video? I was going to do the thumbs up until then and changed my mind.
Nice one how about using clay is it possible..
Video suuuuuucked.
This is my father-in-law and he has his masters in horticulture. 25 plus years on the field. Have some respect. He has vast experience.
Michael Kersbergen do us all the favor and do explain why you think it sucks? I highly doubt you have a real good intelligent idea or clue.
@@sweetcaroline501 worthless people are always going to be around and they have the loudest mouths. I would love to see mr. Larson talk about different trees, apricots and cherries for instance.
Good info. Subbed!
Great grafting techniques, thanks for sharing 👌
Can balsam/spruce pitch be used to seal the open wound?
thanks for posting, You don't prune in late winter (before bud break out) to avoid fire blight?
can take a tree that is watered a lot and be planted in sand and remove it from its place on the condition that you keep long walls and you can turn it into a hole in a suitable place and for a suitable time and go down to the walls except for the bottom and be a tree standing in to move in order to land a lot and put sand and paddle well, so instead of you you will not water much you will only need For a little water, just greetings, but Omar Al-Qurashi
overpruning tree will produce more vegetative growth than fruiting buds
Love watching this! I made an attempt at a less professional professional video on the same subject.....but I had fun doing it!
Do you keep the row cover on all summer long? And what are those poles you are using to keep the row cover lifted up off of your plants? Thank you :)
I have two Comice pear trees on a root stalk that is probably a summer pear. The Comice pears are a winter pear, and they come out in August and don't ripen. So I'm trying to get them to ripen by putting them in the refrigerator. Anybody else here growing Comice pears?
🌳👍
Is your knife a Freunde 217? Very informative video.
Does it matter what month you graft in.
Music is super distracting and if i wanted to read about it I wouldn't be looking on UA-cam :(
Thank you for the video!
