LHMC Watches "Twins of Evil"
With special guest, director, Tony Mardon, the London Horror Movie Club watches Hammer's 1971 "Twins of Evil". The third film in their "Karnstein Trilogy" (based on the novel Carmilla) the film is arguably the best in the trilogy and gives a lot to talk about. From the flipping of feminist tropes to the fantastic cast with veteran Peter Cushing and Playboy models The Collinson Sisters, and even modern-day doppelgangers for the cast, we cover everything and anything we thought of when watching this cult classic.

    A fabulous Hammer with great production value, a demented and sickly looking Peter Cushing as a mad Puritan zealot playing opposite a suave and decadent Count looking for kicks with a bit of devil worship and vampirism. Lots of nudity and some good gore, plush lush sets and some witch hunting thrown in too. Love the western style music score, and the whole style and pace of the film is great.

    Whilst the story is a bit hit and miss, I really like the general ‘vibe’ of Hands of the Ripper. I think the St. Paul’s location and that arial shot are fab, but I also really like the use of other great locations such as Windsor & Eton Central station.

    A very nice location there I must say though as far as Hammer goes, Hands of the Ripper for me is right down at the very bottom along with things like Vampire Lovers or Vampire Circus, '70s Hammer really is very much a hit or miss thing for the most part compared to their glory days in the late '50s/early '60s.

    • @londonhorrormovieclub
      @londonhorrormovieclub Місяць тому

      I am so very nostalgic about the 50s/60s films because I saw them when I was young on the late-night movies, but as I've gotten older I've started to appreciate the later (non-Dracula) films like Hands of the Ripper, or Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde. They had just great ideas. Not always executed as ell, but the storylines were quite clever and cutting edge. I'll agree with you on Vampire Lover's though, definitely just a silly watch, though my partner loves it hehe!
