Storm Darragh at Matties Meeting House - Traditional Irish Music & Landscape Scenery
Called into Matties Meeting House in Cairnrcastle after filming some scenes on the E Antrim coastline to cover Storm Darragh.
In North Down, we have never experienced a storm pick up so fast, as within minutes, and retain such intense winds for the duration. The winds were driving hard East, when normally we see the opposite. Seems it came as quite a surprise to folk in this part of the province too.
Matties have trad music on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. It's a friendly, cosy wee bar with a strong turnout of locals, and like the music, some finely crafted, well established patrons in the small saloon bar rooms. Plenty of stories and laughs to be had. They're also pet friendly, and a rascal of a black cat has his own house in the beer garden.

Fishing Trawler at Ballygally - Boat Technical Analysis & History
Переглядів 9316 годин тому
It was amazing to see this trawler so close to shore and we wasted no time in getting some quality footage of the men at work on their vessel. It's rare to see crews operating looking from the shore side, but very rewarding. Most N Irish trawlers are miles out to sea on these Winter nights. 'Highland Queen' is over 50 years old and still going strong - a testament to it's original 1972 builders...
Whitehead Christmas Fair - N Irish Coastal Town Event Scenes
Переглядів 32219 годин тому
We didn't expect anything less than excellence from Whitehead this month of December and we were not disappointed. Situated in East Antrim at the Northern opening to Belfast Lough, this small town has a dedicated community group, with it's offices on the main street, that makes Whitehead a tidy, safe, colourful and very interesting place to live and visit. We hope you enjoy these scenes and, if...
Drains Bay Night Beach Casting Interview - Antrim Coast Fishing Scenery
Переглядів 7821 день тому
Thanks to Derek from Larne, for his time last night, and an interesting chat about the fishing spots up and down this section of E Antrim. Drains Bay is a quieter beach, with good fine sand out for several hundred metres from the shore, without a significant amount of snagging for fishing lines. It's quiet too, and the layout broken up by the rock laden remains of old fish traps, creates natura...

The Spaniels on Strangford - N Irish Animal Landscape Scenes
Переглядів 363 місяці тому
Too good an opportunity not to stop and film these guys. Five young Spaniels having the time of their life at low tide near Ards on Strangford Lough. Spaniels are 'the' gun dog and love the water as much as the land. They take a lot of exercise and attention, being intelligent and intuitive animals. Their nature is very gentle and they love to be petted... and of course those big brown eyes sta...
Superyacht Scout at Belfast Harbour - Brief Technical Analysis
Переглядів 2164 місяці тому
A RARE AND WELCOME SIGHT This is the first superyacht we have taken a close up look at in Belfast Harbour. Most are usually moored at sea, further East in Belfast Lough, off the City Of Bangor. So this was a great opportunity to get a closer look at one of these amazing vessels. The discreet owner and his partner are philanthropists and animal lovers. That would make them very popular here in N...

Caught on the move with a handheld at 50 frames per second - excuse any wobbles! Thanks also to a friend for the rooftop view. When you see them this close to your home town, the agility, the sound and speed, there is something reminiscent about what it must have been like to witness aerial combat during WW2 over Britain. Perhaps from watching all those captivating Technicolour epics on the big...
Irish Research Vessel Galtee at Glenarm Harbour - Vessel Technical Analysis

Thank you to Eoin from Geological Survey Ireland for the chat, and Infomar.ie for their help with this production. This will be the first installment on Irish marine surveying - more of this interview will feature in a second film. Several months ago, we spotted RV Galtee in Glenarm Harbour - on it's way to a service at manufacturer Redbay Boats. So, we had to know more about it - based on it's...
Wind In The Barley, Strangford - N Irish Farming Landscape Scenery
Переглядів 675 місяців тому
A peaceful moment for you to enjoy, filmed just a few miles from Portaferry Village. What a fantastic Barley season down on the Peninsula this year. After so much rain, it's good to see strong healthy grains in abundance where other crop seasons have been adversely effected by the weather.
Scottish Piper, Bangor Sunset - N Irish Traditional Music Scenes
Переглядів 976 місяців тому
Great to meet this very dedicated lady piper from Aberdeenshire attending a local competition with her fifteen strong ensemble. She chose this evocative piece to end the day and celebrate their coming second in the competition. Another lady was there to listen too - her sister, who inspired their lifelong interest in the pipes. The scenery here features the gorgeous sunset visible from Bangor S...
Nightshift for The Water Boys - N Irish Water Service Working Scenes
Переглядів 297 місяців тому
Another unsung night work crew featured in this short video. These guys turn up when most are turning in for bed - making sure the big drains and sewers are fully functional, in the dark, and often in the rain. So when we wake up the next morning, everything is running perfectly. Some of these town drains can go down underground for many metres and they're not all new structures - in Holywood T...
The Hamiltons Of Island Hill Comber - N Irish Potato Farming
Переглядів 1987 місяців тому
Thank you to the Hamilton brothers at their arable farm for taking the time to show us around the process of potato growing from land to shop. This was an opportunity to see a number of varieties and hear who buys what when the harvests are in. The farm is at an enviable location on the mouth of Strangford Lough - Ards Town on one side and Comber Town on the other, overlooked by the commanding ...
Scrabo Farmer Interview - N Irish Farming Scenes
Переглядів 1509 місяців тому
Thank you to Ian for being a great host to Irelandscapes literally when we met at one of his fields on Scrabo's hillside fields overlooking Strangford Lough. This is a mixed farm of arable and livestock. The unique influence here which assists both animals and crops, is a microclimate availing of local land and sea conditions on a sheltered, South facing slope. The lower fields are legendary fo...

HMS Albion at Belfast Harbour (Royal Navy ship technical analysis film - Amphibious Transport Dock)
The storm just came directly in from the north west instead of travelling around cape wrath. Similar to the one that sank the ferry in 58 or when that was. Meeting house looks great craic.
A nasty day, to say the least. It's good to see the Lighthouse with the original rotating lens, thanks to the local community.
Yes they've worked very hard on preserving that light. We managed to film a few others before their conversions.
@@Irelandscapes Many Lighthouses here considered surplus. Groups are asking they be maintained...
Interesting craft. The dolphins seem quite playful.
Fishermen are men. There out in all weathers. There always in my prayers fishermen.
Starmer's Woke Cult far left sewer life have now announced both these still essential assets, 'Albion' and sister ship, 'Bulwark' are to be scrapped. Ah well! With the resultant 'savings', we'll instead be able to keep the hordes of illegal bogus asylum seekers we now host ensconsed happily in hotels at taxpayers expense for approximately another month!
Specific to the 'banning of bagpipes' - this information pertaining to a group of prisoners held at York Castle in 1746 should provide some context to the pipes being identified as "an instrument of war" relative to the Act of Proscription 1746, though the act does not specifically refer to "bagpipes". Relating to Jacobite prisoners held at the castle in 1746: "On the 8th November, eleven of the 53 planned executions were carried out and on the 15th November just one man, James Reid, a Piper, was executed. At his trial, James had stated in his defense that he “had not carried arms”. The judges, however, ruled that “[n]o regiment ever marched without musical instruments such as drums, trumpets and the like; and that a Highland regiment never marched without a piper: and therefore his bagpipes, in the eyes of the law, was an instrument of war.” James was condemned and subsequently hanged then drawn and quartered. Those not executed were mostly transported or enlisted in the armed forces. However, they had first to petition the King for mercy."
Wonderful documentary. Your research is spot on and well-presented. Thanks again for your videos! From a descendant of the Savages of Ards
Thanks for the supportive comment! We're working now on those next couple of centuries in Lecale. Lot's of Savage involvement and some nice documentary evidence.
1 more year and I'm there 🤞
Drogheda Port?
As someone with a deep interest in history in Ireland and Lecale where I live, you have added immensely to my depth of knowledge. I look forward to more!
Thanks for the encouraging feedback! This film has been in the works for about a year, as it expanded to cover the family and the times they lived through. The next episode is about the De Audley's themselves and is in production now. Should be out within the next week.
Brilliant video very nice part of the country 👍
Thanks Paul!
Loved your video and history of Audley’s Castle. Thank you, from a Savage descendant. Best wishes.
You'll enjoy the next Audley episodes - plenty of Savage history explored from their lives in the same locale.5
What happened to this ship, is she no longer the possession of the AYT? I just saw this listed in Yachtworld
Surprised to hear this. Last we saw it was 2023, docked adjacent to the H&W shipyard.
I would hardly describe a bouzouki as an Irish banjo personally! Great playing though. Loved it. And great views of Tullycross and environs. A beautiful place, I miss it. Not sure Maol Reidh is still functioning...?
The Welsh have bagpipes as well. He never mentioned that
@jimmclean9312 They do. I lived in Wales for a couple Years so i know this
Very interesting video
Lovely
Thanks!
Cool video we have a spaniel and hes nuts about the water too 😂
Thanks Paul, good to hear from you!
Me acuerdo cuando yo molestaba a mi hermano .
Thorough narration of the story of St Oliver Plunkett and lovely photos as well. Thank you.
Thanks, Karen. Tommy is such a dedicated and humble curator of the Plunkett story, and made it was well worth taking the time to put this story together.
Beautiful display of irish garden birds. A real treasurer to have available. Thank you.❤
Thanks, John!
Who's playing guessing games with the price?
According to local media, £68M.
Thank you for sharing this stunning landscape. The ambiance was all the more appreciated by the detailed, colorful description. New subscriber. Added to my waterscapes playlist.
I was a cadet from TS Gurkha and sailed on Royalist in the early 1970's. Fantastic memories of working aloft with only a safety belt with rope and snap shackle. On deck we worked the clewlines, buntlines amongst many tasks . Only had one hiccup....... on one trip being caught by a Royal Marine Quartermaster who looked up from his position on deck and caught me sending rude semaphore signals from aloft the main mast to my best mate on the mizzen, both of us at Topgallant height. The punishment ? Being made to climb barefoot from deck to mast head on both sides of both masts. Very happy memories.
Great story - thanks! You're welcome to share pics if you dig any out.
Did you film this at Stormont?
No, the other side of the city on the edge of the mountain. Some very good views from Craigantlet though.
Lovely that he knows the different names of stone
Hopefully they are not doing what I don't want them to do
It's so beautiful. Thank You
You're very welcome. A new coastal castle production out shortly.
if HMS Ocean and HMS Albion had a baby thats what the 6 ships should look like
Sea trout at crawfordsburn too and have also picked up a few half decent flounder.
Thanks, that is indeed an encouraging report.
Fishing for turds😮 Belfast Lough the open sewer!
Amazing, I am addicted to find faces in rocks in ancient sites , just I found one at 4:12 right side of the screen , chin lips nose eye eyebrow hair!
We'll have to link you to a few more films featuring rockfaces. Know what you mean, once you start seeing them, there are always more!
@@Irelandscapes Thank for your response, you can't believe it ,I have seen almost all existing videos and images of faces in rocks, and have found some by my own search and notified the uploader and he was surprized saying :"oh,wow" . Btw I was jokingly saying I am addicted to them, not meaning I SEE things that don't exist. But actually strongly believe none of then is accidentally similar to human face rather carved on purpose, and that is a sign of advanced technology that they were able to carve huge mountains just to look like a sleeping human . Were they aliens ? I don't know ,.Nazca lines in Peru only are seen by air planes , that means they had access to flying, sort of using laser beams to draw those mile long lines. We are badly unaware of real history. Example of those that I founf by myself : this video on UA-cam, "24 Hours at Capitol Reef National Park | Hickman Bridge, Navajo Knobs, Cassidy Arch, PIE, & more!" 2:20 of that video (top of mountain, under white cloud, huge profile of a woman). 9:33 of that video ( sleeping giant, right side of the screen). Also not by myself Google for "island carved like a dolphin" for images.Imagine how powerful advanced they were that they were able to carve a huge island to make it look like a dolphin!!! sorry for lomg response
@@Irelandscapes thanks I have almost seen all faces in rocks. btw do you see the eyeball here at 4:12 amazing! I see it with magnifying glass

Apparently the most important thing is to get the best chisel for breaking and shaping the stone - one with a tungsten head. There will likely be another stonework film this Summer, so keep an eye on the channel.
Beautiful cinematography. Love the Irish history. Thanks much!
Thanks! We'll be seeing Hector again for his expert insight on another location.
Must try red bay sometime but i would need a good beach / caster and a good box of wrag worm for it
It's very popular, especially at night. We found it really friendly - everyone was chatting to each other, but sometimes it's wise to secure the rod and sit in the van when those winds pick up across the bay in Winter!
We had good luck on nearly every bait we tried, you can get away with any rod I used a small one as well As my beach caster and caught on both
