The Retail Village at Sycamore & Oak in Washington, DC, showcases how mass timber can contribute to environmental and economic sustainability.
Designed by Adjaye Associates and Winstanley Architects & Planners, this unique mass timber pavilion was specially designed so that it can eventually be dismantled and reassembled at a new location, with plans for it to be a community cornerstone regardless of where it resides. Wood’s light weight also allowed them to extend the glulam columns below the deck and rest on precast footings set on top of the existing asphalt pavement, avoiding the need for an expensive foundation.
