East Bay Clash #16: DJ 8 Ball vs Fist of Fury (losers quarter finals)
Losers quarter finals match between me and Fist of Fury. To be fair, FoF is def a high level player (I think he might even have been a former Madhouse champ), not to mention King (imo) is extremely strong and I am actually intimidated by King's throw mixup game and fear his Heat Smash. However, FoF graciously admitted he has almost zero knowledge of the matchup in which I took full advantage of. Respect to Fist of Fury!

Rev7 Test Tone Review

I test out my two best known test tone routines on the Pioneer DDJ-REV7. I've only had the controller for a month and after initial setup and accessory procurement, about 2 days of actual test tone routine practice. So will it be able to handle the speedy tempo switching? And what suggestions do I have for future REV controllers after trying it out? *cough* DJ 8-Ball special edition *cough* Let...

My first tournament at Bay Area Madhouse. Was my 2nd match of the night and was sent to loser's bracket. Unfortunately I wasn't able to play in that bracket because someone STOLE my spot (I didn't hear my name called and someone pretended to be me...and lost). Didn't do too bad tho considering Free Palestine took 2nd place. The final round where I got KO'd while grounded was actually because my...

My first Tekken 8 tournament. Only had about 1 week of very limited practice (Victor) and still not used to the PS5 controller. Wasn't expecting to do well but apparently I was told I didn't do too bad considering the game was out for only 1 week and everyone is just having to make adjustments.

    I can't watch this video without thinking of the fucking lockdown! I hated that shit. By the way, I was wondering, what did you think about your little battle against Mixmaster Mike at the '93 Supermen battle? I thought you beat him, but it was a tie, right? I thought Mike's second set was a bit of a mess. He used it in the '94 Dream Team set as well, right? I would have tried to get into that battle myself, but I didn't start battling until '97, when the battle had ended.

    • @dj8ball1993nms
      @dj8ball1993nms Рік тому

      It was really hard to think about things other than my routine with my battle against Mike! As a matter of fact, the entire final round previous to that was like a foggy dream. I didn't even know it was the finals! As for when battling Mike, all my concentration was on remembering my routine and praying my needles don't skip. Looking back at it, it was fun and glad it was Mike since we both knew each other. Ironic it was SF vs SF in the end.

      @@dj8ball1993nms Did you make a video about your battle against Noize in '94? I've got an old interview with him in a British Hip hop magazine called Hip hop Connection, from '95, in which he was talking about it. He said he rented an apartment in Brooklyn, and stayed there for a week before the battle. By the way, why did that battle end? I'm sure Noize would've crushed his opponent if he'd been able to take on the champ in '95.

    3:30 This year I believe yesterday I finished making my own laser from scrach and It was an inspiration from you because in 2022 I won an ugly sweater contest in High School and I won a $25.00 Amazon gift Card. And I bought an RG laser with different patterns for $20.00 for the laser. When I open the box for the laser, built quality was bad, the cord looked like it was about to break but the laser turned and the effect was amazing. I then I saw this video 3:30 and I did the same thing put the amazon laser in a box made out of wood from HomeDepot paint the whole box in white with the laser inside without taking the laser out and all you have to do is just plug in and play and enjoy the show. And What's also cool is that you can be creative and use what you even though its in bad condition u can find a way and fix and be happy what you have.

    Hello DJ 8-Ball you are the king of test tones I have something to ask u I just started learning and using turntables when covid happened till today. And my Grandfather owner 2 technics 1200mk2 turntables but I started to learn with 1 turntable because my dad only had 1 shure needle until I saw your dj battles. But I also do use a numark 2 go dj controller and I was like hey I can practice tones on the controller but its also not the same because u would mostly see tones on viny and on turntables. Do U think I show try to do tones on a controller. Please let me know. But by all means your the king of Tones Should I do it on a tiny controller.

    • @dj8ball1993nms
      @dj8ball1993nms Рік тому

      Hey! So long as the controller has a slide pitch I don't see why not! I'm actually now using Rane 12's. Altho different controllers may respond differently. For instance, I can't do my "Don't Stop the Rock" routine on a Rane 12 due to either the hardware or software not moving as fast as the note change. Best thing to do is try it out and see what works and what doesn't between different controllers and 1200s. 😁

    ok so im english, back in the day i managed to get a ripped copy of the 92 usa dmc final (god knows who i got it off) and your was one of the stand out sets on that tape. i must have watched it a hundred times. but what ive always wanted to know is what was that track you were juggling (you show it in this video at 5:56)? i have since heard it once on mainstream radio here but despite spending thousands on records i have never come across it. edit: also thanks for this insight into what that night was like. such a great story too. id like to hear a bit more about how you got to end up with all those tracks in the set on 45. at that time the only thing i could think of that would get a crowd hyped was to play some records on 45 as rave music was getting faster and faster some of the older tracks became useful to play at double speed. but i never competed only doing a few routines in my normal dj set. but when i saw your 92 set i was like "wow man he is out there doing it". that set was inspirational to me just as much as a lot of the guys who placed or got a dmc or itf win.

    • @dj8ball1993nms
      @dj8ball1993nms 3 роки тому

      @nobby styles Hey! So the track I was juggling throughout that routine was "Portrait of a Masterpiece" by the D.O.C. It sped way way up to 45rpm (not sure what pitch it was at). And why 45rpms? The theory was the faster the juggles, the more juggles I can fit into a section. That's it. Not to satisfy a particular genre. It was all about trying to squeeze in every bit of trick ppssible in that 6min set. Speeding things up allows one to condense things down at the cost of possibly sounding less funky. 😉
