I hope, over time, people will come to enjoy this channel as much as I enjoy creating it.

Fix Rear Sight on Ruger 10/22
Переглядів 57 тис.11 років тому
In this video, I show how I fixed the rear sight on my Ruger 10/22. You can pick up a rear sight at the following link: www.amazon.com/dp/B003F6JCYG/?tag=aboutgunsandg-20 Here's an article I wrote about the 10/22: wp.me/p7jz63-1d
This HAS to be the worst video I have ever seen on You-tube. How about FOCUSING??????????????????????
Very helpful. thanks.
Next time you are without a brass punch you can sometimes get by with slipping a spent .22 shell over your steel punch.
Focus. View video before uploading.
Just broke my punch. Old things like this say it is super easy, but these new production ones are so freaking hard to knock out. Most newer posts I see now say to just cut it off.
This guy is doing it backwards. I beat the shit out of mine in this direction. Checked other sites and they said go in the other direction. Hope I didn’t mess up my gun
aslong as you werent wackin the barrel... worse thing you can do to your gun is A make your sight inaccurate, B scratch up the finish on the barrel/sight
Shit video champ
OMG. Take this off youtube or redo it! What the crap. all out of focus.
the image is TOO CRISP. It is TOO CRYSTAL CLEAR. How about make it more BLURRY? Smear Vaseline on your camera lens before you start recording.
Thank you for this video. I spent 3 hours trying to remove the broken rear sight off my Marlin 60 and your video solves the problem in less than 1 minute. The people complaining about it being out of focus are childish whiners and probably shouldn't own a gun to begin with. They should do "how to" make UA-cam tutorials instead.
Amazing the whole video was filmed out of focus, lol
the image is TOO CRISP. It is TOO CRYSTAL CLEAR. We all prefer it more BLURRY? Smear Vaseline on the camera lens before recording.
Dude this fucking god damn piece of shit rear sight is lodged in my barrel like you would NOT believe. I tried taking it out from right to left with the charging handle placed towards the sky, it would not work. I was using brass punches and a brass hammer and the brass punches bent out of shape!! My Dad used a steel punch without my permission and he ended up scratching the barrel and even put an ugly dent in the barrel!! Needless to say, I'm pissed!! And now I'm going to take it into a gun store and see if they can get the fucking piece of shit rear sight out of the barrel... P.S. Putting tape over the barrel did not do shit to protect the barrel, the punches simply punch through the tape like nothing.
Warning! I tried doing mine this way, and I beat and beat on the Rear Sight (with Lube of course). People keep saying "left and right side", maybe they should refer to it like a car. Instead of left and right, we say driver or passenger side. When I had the charging handle up (like in this video) it would not come out. I checked another website and said the opposite. I tried that and in about 4 strikes it was out... When I replaced it, I put it in Charging Handle side up. Now, my 10/22 was bought in 2001. If this doesn't work, try charging handle down to remove... I hope this helps the next guy!
Mine is the Sporter version of the 10/22 which I bought around 1991. I removed it as shown in this video, i.e., hit down on the rear site from the charging side and it came out fairly easily.
Focus would've helped ..
Dude, from the amount of dirt on that toothbrush I wonder if that pistol was ever cleaned?
You are OUT of focus so can’t see anything
Awesome! My sight broke after 15+ years of excellent service...I wasn’t sure how to go about to getting the sight out without marring my rifles the painters tape was genius and I absolutely cannot wait to replace it! Thank you for the knowledge sir!!
Thanks. Mounting a scope with an objective that"s too large to fit even with the sight flipped down. BTW Williams offers a 3/8 blank to fill the empty dovetail for around $5 at Midway USA but do your own research.
Sorry your shots of the relevant parts are out of focus. I believe it is due to the patterning on the background. Pete.
I have the Lee Load- Master 5 stage press. Have had difficulty in getting the priming system to work correctly and be consistent in the seating depth of the primers. I shoot Cowboy Action and go through 1000's of 38 special. Do you find this press good for consistent primer seating depth ? The Ruger Revolvers I use cannot have high primers or the cylinder will not rotate !! This can be very frustrating. It looks like this press will solve my problems. Also what primer attachment are you using ? Is this the Lee Precision Breech Lock Classic Cast Press ?
Sorry for the late response. I've never had any issues seating primers with this press. Having said that, I've never loaded 38 Special with it. I use the stock attachments that came with the press. Might be a little more work than you like if you're loading that many rounds.
I do believe the sight should be removed through the RIGHT side of the gun.
I previously suggested a wooden dowel can work instead of a brass punch. In a recent experience my dowel splintered, and part of it sheared off the rear leaf. It might be OK if you are throwing out the old part, but if you are drifting to fix an aiming problem, this is destructive. I learned a lesson the hard way, but it did save me some dough when I was working on a Marlin 60 which drifted easier.
glad I found your video. I just want to remove the rear sight as it interferes with proper positioning of my Vortex scope. Had to go the scope route due to the fact that I cannot focus on the front sight. My progressive lenses don't like me shooting a rifle.
I have the same problem focusing on some front sights. Usually, I'll either go with a blacked out rear sight or some kind of optic depending on what's availability. Glad you liked the video, thanks!
Steve Brown I
Not really intended to be anything more than showing that the two products can be used together. I would suggest downloading the .pdf if you're looking for instructions. www.hornady.com/assets/files/manuals-current/metalic-reloading/GS-1500.pdf
Instructional value is Zero.
Glad it worked for you.
Great video. Worked like a charm. A punch, hammer, oil and duct tape to protect the finish. You saved me $40 in gunsmith fees. I bought the factory Ruger rear sight on Brownells.com for $12.
+john Last Glad it worked for you.
I called ruger they sent me a new sight next day for free!
Did you polish the feed ramp? The rough surface makes harder for the bullets to slide on it. I used Scotchbright and then some mothers bumper type polish. Never a fail!!!
+ShoeManShoe68 Yes, I polished the feed ramp and still had issues with it. Sent it in to Kel Tec and basically got a brand new gun back. They have great customer service.
Looks like u have better luck with that scale then I do I just bought mine a few days ago and I had to call hornady on it cause it kept saying for 2.3 then4.9 then back 2.3 when I called them sounds like they been having trouble with those scales doing that
I haven't had any issues with it like that. It is pretty sensitive though. Any vibration seems to move it around.
+Big R T I've noticed a little variation, but not that much. I've since changed to a larger volume power, which will prevent me from over charging and really show if the the charge is much higher than the others.
I saw this model on sale for $479....was very tempting
+onenikkione Can't go wrong with it, but you should also try other brands. I didn't really care for the trigger.
I own one, but it was giving me failure to feed issues on the first use. I returned it to my gun shop for them to inspect. What a shame, it is truly beautiful! However I am waiting for them to either fix the issue or give me a new-functioning M&P. Please if you can upload a video with the extras you added it would be cool. Thank you. Best regards.
+Xavier Lee I apologize. I missed your comment last year. I still love this gun and adding another short vid is a good idea. Think I'll do that this weekend.
In the end I sold it and bought a Glock 19. Never a malfunction there. Thanks for your reply.
Any update?
+WorkerBee2011 Kel-Tec basically replaced everything on this gun. It's like new again. Put 5-6 mags through it with no issues. Can't beat Kel-Tec customer service. Glad I sent it back to them. I've since replaced this gun with a Smith and Wesson M&P Bodyguard. I've had zero failures since I got it.
I put my near rear sight in and the damn thing won't stay put. It just slides through one side to the other... It is as if the replacement is just a hair too small.
+Mark D Sorry Mark, I missed your comment. Did you ever get a replacement that fit?
What if you use a little bit of adhesive inside? Once placed on its proper position and with adhesive, the sight should not move at all.
Loved the vid, getting this SW mp9 in the cabelas two tone soon!
Thanks! It's been a great gun. I've added a few extras since I posted this vid. I may do another at some point showing what I've added to the gun.
You should get the Lee auto disk. It will take half the time. Once you do that you will never go back ;)
I've had my eye on one for a while now. I may have to try it out.
Totally worth the money. I started using one on the challenger press as well. Then I moved up to the classic turret. And next week I'm picking up a loadmaster. But I digress... it will save you a ton of time even in a single stage.
I agree wholeheartedly. Mine was bought in the 80's and still goin strong
+Patmclean232 I did finally get the Lee auto disk. Didn't work with the powder I was using, so I changed powders and man, I love it. Thanks for the recommendation!
No sweat! Lee just came out with an auto drum powder measure that works really well with just about any powder I throw at it.it allowed me to run rifle rounds on my loadmaster. I've used stick powder and fine powders like h110. It has stayed very consistent even with"difficult" powders. The auto disk is great. it just doesn't like some powders. Glad you like it!
Cool! Thanks.
No problem, hope it helps.
I have a new stainless compact model and I have HI - Viz sights coming . I hope it goes as well as it did for you . Liked the video , it was helpful :)
I love the look of all the stainless models. Unfortunately, I don't have one...lol. I hope it's a similar change and it goes well for you.
U make it look so easy I can't get mine out I'm just scratching my shit trying what am I doing wrong
Try spraying a lubricant on it and letting it sit over night. I use Kano Kroil for this sort of thing, but other penetrating lub may work. Take your time and make sure you cover it with tape or something so you don't scratch the surface.
+187juggalo I have heard these are some of the toughest rear sights to remove... there is a forum that discusses it. Here's the link. Don't feel like the lone ranger on this one... cover your punch with electrical tape to prevent scratching the barrel. Anyone who installs the Archangel system on their 10/22 is faced with this same dilemma. www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=538758
Never thought to clean a gun to classical music.... Nice job, good song selection too!
Thought the music fit the job and my mood at the time...LOL.
