Arcade Fire playing "Intervention" live at the Tower Theatre in Philly.
truly one of the best songs ever made
Oh, to see him live must’ve been such a pleasure. This performance is amazing ^^
what happened to the sound
at the end? phil usually fucks with the guitar amp feedback/distortion to get some sort of "sound" from it
@@InsulindianPhasmid2214 when I commented this there was no audio guess it's finally fixed
first comment in 3 years but this still goes hard
one of the only sad white dudes i care about anymore - thanks for the upload <3
this is so good
If I could write a song half as good as this I could die happy
Kobbe if i could ever write a song that would ever be even somewhat compared to this i would die happy. Phil Elverum is the greatest songwriter ever.
You can
You can. But it's not going to be your first song. Don't give up, please.
i've started listening to phil elverum only since last year. i feel like i have lost so much in my life. like just listen to how his emotions are coming out of his mouth this is fucking magic , what a voice ,man, i'd give all i have to see him perform. but its unlikely he'll come to europe :(
Phil Elverum is a reason in itself that I wish I was a 2000s teen that ventured through indie albums....
he comes to europe fairly often, I don't know if this is of any help to you know, but there's a microphones tour in europe this november <3
idk where you’re at in europe but i really hope you can make it to see him in spain next month :) much love friend
He goes to tour in Europe kinda a lot I think he's there at this very moment.
Why didn't i go see this in 2007 when i was 6? 6 year old me was so basic.
in the liner notes for the glow pt. 2 on vinyl, or at least in the reissue notes, instead of having the lyrics for this song, it has this big long poem/story about the what the song's about. i highly recommend that you find it, it's extremely worth it.
hey thank you for revealing this! i know this was written 8 years ago and i don’t know if you even use this youtube channel anymore, but could you somehow link pictures to this lyric sheet you speak of? i seem unable to find this anywhere, and i intend on giving phil good money for this record someday (and many others of his!) but cannot do so atm as i’m, besides an enamored phil elverum enthusiast, a very broke college student also haha! thanks in advance, i’d be so grateful if you’d read this and somehow find a way to show it. side question (pardon any nosiness on my part), but are you daniel johann as in the adore 1996 / salvia palth daniel johann? if so like thank you so much i love your music for years and years now, it got me through some of the roughest and most anxiety-ridden years of my life and i’m very grateful and appreciative of your art and your existence. <3
@@rafaeltrindade7009 the full poem is on the track's bandcamp here: pwelverumandsun.bandcamp.com/track/the-moon
@@dogustwo2582 You are the shit. I've been looking for this poem for like 2 years, thank you!!
@Crowing yeah I don't know why I typed that, I am pretty familiar with the lyrics and they are clearly about romantic love and not platonic. Anyways…great songs.
@MisterDanLorth They're both about an old girlfriend
I can't figure out if "the moon" is about a family member or a girlfriend. "moon sequel" is definitely love lost but...
It's likely about an ex, although not explicitly stated The Glow Pt.2 is allegedly a breakup album about Khaela Maricich, of the band The Blow.
R8052509P well shit, this is old. But the Glow Part 2 is a breakup album (also the greatest breakup album ever but whatever). This being stated, the moon is about an ex girlfriend, and moon sequel is just a follow up of the same girl. The Glow Pt 2 is a masterpiece and Dawn is the follow up, where phil despite his desperate attempts is still drowning in his sadness.
lmao i'd be pretty worried if it was about his sister
i like this version better than the original : O
@VESSEL1991 It's pretty easy. A-D for the intro then A-E-B-D after that A-E-D-E when it goes to "If anybody comes to see me.." it goes to C#m-D-A. Back to A-E-D-E then A-D for the rest of the song.
janette
can someone plzzzzz tell me the chordsto this song plzzz
ive been watching this video non stop for the past week. Ive bought alll of "the microphones" albums, and ive fallen in love with their music. beautiful song, probably one of my favorites
Do you still listen to them tho?
Yes :) @@urteu
good cover, surprisingly. but, ben, please concentrate more on a NEW POSTAL SERVICE ALBUM!
This is very good...but he should have tried to maintain what JD did with his vocals...the way the song is originally sung conjures the feelings of being a meth head... I would love to see Gibbard do some of the more less "frantic" songs, like Game Shows That Touch Our Lives, Old College Try, or something from The Sunset Tree
ola de smaakrechter staat op! ;-)
Errr, grandioos.
such a great guitarist and singer
As much as I love "The Moon", I love the "Moon (sequel)" much more at this point in my life.
A comment from pre-2010? I feel like I'm an explorer venturing deep into a lost hall of records in an ancient library.
@@JammastaJ23 how do you think I feel when you dig up my 11 year old comment!

@@s210761 everything changes but themes stay the same. This song still means a lot to me though.
haha, every quote in this thread is stereotypically indie. i love it. now everyone listen to see if zuckerberg, google, or prozac exhales more condescendingly upon reading this.
ahh sweet thanks, i'll check it out :).
I'm guessing this is one of those "I'm more indie rock than you and here's why" moments
Yeah i realized that recently, but its only a live verison. Still can't really hear the lyrics very well. Still nice to have a version of the end part.
i thank you firstly for this amazing rendition of this song. Blew me away. But i really do hope that at some point he re-records this song with the extra verses. It would be amazing to hear exactly what he sings.
..wait..ben gibbard playing mountain goats.. oh my head
this show was so great... i am also about 5 feet behind you.
I had to check my six but you almost got me dude
WHAT!!!!!! Amazing.
this song is fucking fantasic even better by the mountain goats
Oh YEAHHHHHHH man I'm pissed they're not coming through Pittsburgh... I bet Manny scared them away. :-( This is sweet though; I want to live in the 1st unitarian church
This is incredibly beautiful.
Thank you for the video.
I like his cover, but it has a very different feeling with Ben Gibbard's voice and lighter guitar playing style than it does with John Darnielle.
perhaps... but also a fairly obvious one.
yeah... it was a joke.
who the hell are the mountain goats?
I have to agree with those with the sentiment that he doesn't do this song any justice. His rendition is bland and boring.
amazing, to be honest i haven't heard the non-live(non-youtube) mountain goats version. But this is spectacular.
I LOVE IT! It's really cool to hear this song with Ben Gibbard's voice. Very odd too though, because his voice is very calming and John Darnielle's seems to be a bit more grating which I really like. It's a great cover all the same. I'm happy that he did it.
Yes, I have a pretty good one. Message me, we'll see what we can do.
he somehow makes it just as bland and inoffensive as his own songs. blargh.
Wow, great job. Darnielle's songs can be hard to make your own sometimes. Also, way to pull out of messing up after the bridge thing
Phenomenal Cover. Thanks for posting.
any bootleg audio recordings of this? i could extract the audio but im lazy.
why would i?
You're joking right?
