Egypt Day 2 Part 3 Sphinx
We finish up this morning with a visit to the Great Sphinx. Believed to built about the 26th century B.C. by Pharaoh Khafre. It's the largest monolith statue in the world at 66 feet tall and 240 feet long. It was originally brightly painted and buried in the sand for centuries. It was not completely uncovered until the early 1800's. Napoleon's troops used the Sphinx for target practice and blew off its nose. After this visit, we end the morning with lunch at an Egyptian restaurant.

We were on our own this afternoon, so we dropped off our luggage, got some lunch, and voted on going to the Montmartre District of Paris. This turned out to be an excellent choice. It was about a 30 minute metro ride to the ...

We are continuing on the tour, and we broad the bus to the windmill De Riermolen built in 1636. Windmills were primarily used to pump the water out of the lowlands. Hi Michael! I have a few more questions for you :) We are also doing the gondola ride with Gate 1. Did you depart for the gondola ride near St Mark's Square? Do you recall how late in the afternoon you went? We booked tickets for the Doge's Palace at 3:30. We're hoping the times won't overlap. Thanks for all your help! Love the videos!

      On our tour, we departed around 3 pm near St. Marks Square. The actual time on the water was not that long, less than 30 minutes I believe. On that day, we toured Venice in the morning, then free time to explore and have lunch. Met back at the square and walked to the gondolas. Talk to your tour guide to see what they can work out for you. We enjoyed every minute of that day.

    Hi there! Thanks for sharing your videos. I'm going on the same Gate 1 tour this July. Just out of curiosity, did you have enough time after Pisa to explore Florence that day? We would like to book tickets to see Michelangelo's Statue of David that first day in Florence. Do you think we would have enough time based on your experience? Thanks :)

    • @michaellichtenberg6670
      @michaellichtenberg6670 Рік тому

      I believe so. We took a couple hour tour of Florence in the morning that showed us where the Museums and churches were. After that, we were let loose. Some in our group did go to see David. My wife and I wanted to see other things, and the exact replica of David in front of the museum satisfied us. Also, you can always skip the morning tour, or cut out early from that tour if needed. The local tour guides are very understanding and will instruct you on the best way to accomplish what you want to do. One couple in our group wanted to go to a specific place. After the tour, the tour guide escorted them there, and helped negotiate the sale. Buying tickets in advance will save you some time. We traveled in April, so the crowds weren't too bad. Hope this answers your question, and if you want to read further this is a short summary of our Florence tour: On our tour, we arrived in Florence late afternoon. After we checked in to our hotel, we had "free time", (explore on our own time.) Our tour guide offered to meet anyone from the tour and train us how to cross a street in Italy. Excellent information. She then took us to the near by square (which wasn't far from the museum with David) and showed us where to eat. She also pointed out other directions to explore. Very nice restaurant where the locals ate. We explored for a few more hours and returned to our hotel. The next morning was the tour of Florence which I already explained. We had too much free time after the tour, which cost me a great deal after the wife was finished shopping. lol. Late afternoon, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our group evening meal, which was well worth it. Gate 1 does a great job and really enjoyed our trip to Italy because of them.

      We really enjoyed our trip and probably wouldn’t change a thing. We arrived in Murano and stayed at the Hyatt. Very nice. Our first adventure was to the Murano glass factories, then on a taxi to Venice. The walking tour of Venice took us to places we probably wouldn’t have seen if we went on our own. After the walking tour we were on our own for about three hours. Our tour guide recommended a couple of places to eat that were not tourist traps and they were good recommendations. We walk fast, so plenty of time for lunch, the tower and church visits. The Gondola ride was great experience and worth the time. After the boat ride, a little more shopping, then a taxi ride back to Murano. At first we were worried that we should have stayed in Venice, but after spending the day in Venice, it was nice to return to the peacefulness of Murano. Hope this helps
