Vulcan 1500 Classic first start after rebuild
This is the first time firing the bike after I replaced the oil pump gear and rebuilt the motor. Still have a few other things to fix that came up last minute. I'll post videos of those repairs when the parts come in. Thanks for watching!

Vulcan 1500 Classic- setting the timing part 1
Переглядів 24 тис.7 років тому
First in this series. I got a little ahead of myself while rebuilding my motor and didn't correctly set the timing the first time through so I took the opportunity to record the process as best I could working solo. Here's the first stage of setting the timing for the front cylinder. You know what to do in the comments! Thanks for watching!
Judges Oil Gear install part 3
Переглядів 7 тис.7 років тому
This is a the video of the clutch modification for the JOG. It's a simple enough mod and all you need is a couple big hammers and a good sturdy table or work bench. It's basically just making sure that the tabs don't stick up higher than the surface of the outer gear on the back of the clutch basket. Just use a straight edge and whatever touches the edge as you move it around, beat the hell out...
Judges Oil Gear install part 2
Переглядів 8 тис.7 років тому
Well, I forgot to start the video back up after I cleaned everything but here is the final assembly of the gear kit. The only thing I had to do for modification to fit the gear was hammer the tabs on the back of my clutch basket. One thing that the Judge is adamant about is checking your clearances all around so that nothing contacts the gear that's not suppose to! I highly agree! I'll be posti...
Judges Oil Gear install
Переглядів 12 тис.7 років тому
This is a brief overview of the installation process for the Judge's Oil Gear (JOG) kit. This is on a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. The motor has already been removed but the repair can be done without removing the motor from the bike if you are 100% certain that the POG failure is your problem. Unfortunately, I was working by myself doing this repair so I wasn't able to get any footage of...
Es año 2000?
Hello.. Can I time the motor valve?
Can I get the link
Where can I get this
What main and pilot jets please
Hi, somebody know got as to where to find the kit?
Can I have this part?😅
Thanks a lot. I'm rebuilding a 2003 meat strike
Is your carbureted or fuel injected?
Looked like a carb in an earlier video (timing). Mine's got a carb, but I don't know if they also offered injection in '97, or if he added it somehow during the rebuild.
Does there need to be tension on the chain when setting the timing marks or do you leave slack in the cam chain when setting the timing and then install your cam chain tensioner?
So are you turning the engine over clockwise or anty clockwise ? Then all so are you doing one hole turn or two? I'm asking as no one explains this and after putting my moter back in on the frount head Is fiering
Did you ever get this answered?
Is it smoking because they are new?
Ciao volevo chiedere sapete dove ai acquista quell ingranaggio? Grazie mille
You still looking
is there a phone number to call and order a part
Hi, You got an answer as to where to find the kit?
And does any one know the price
Where can I buy the judges oil gear for my 03 1500 volcan
well,,some have asked the same question of you and no response yet! maybe some one know where to buy one !! thanks Gervais.
What are the little springs actually called?
could the JOG still be replaced down the line?
Hi i bought a 1995 Vulcan 1500 classic and i'd like to get the JOG but I'm not in the US. is there anyway you could help me get a hold of judge i tried emailing and i've heard I would need to call him.
Did you get sorted
I have a question. The sprockets were removed on my camshafts. Which way do they bolt on? In the manual it shows some pictures with the lobes closest to the sprockets pointing to the right with the sprocket facing toward me and the "F" or "R" on the sprocket on the top of the sprocket and both alignment notches in a horizontal position. Is this the correct way to install the sprockets? The manual does not specify this. Do both the front and rear camshafts have the lobes pointing the same way? I hope I'm explaining this correctly.
Great set of instructional videos! I just want to add something here. Be sure that the camshafts are installed in the proper heads. The camshaft that goes in the front head has an "F" on the sprocket and the camshaft that goes in the rear head has an "R" on the sprocket. Both the "F" and "R" have to be on top of the sprocket when aligning the notches with the heads.
HAILF OF THAT BIG BOY WOULD BE MUCH BETTER THAN THE SUZKI SAVAGE
Any idea if this is the same process as the mean streak version? Do they use the same engine?
I do believe you want the TF mark to the left of the "F" to be lined up with the notch in the peep hole.
Great video, very helpful, thanks for taking the time.
I can't hardly hear him
Hi Rich, did you try and start the bike with cam timing off? I just rebuilt my Vulcan 1500 engine and I'm getting constant backfires. I'm wondering if I messed up my cam timing too.
Im having the same issue with mine. Please let me know what you figure out if you get it fixed.
@@mathewkibler8981 Too much air coming in? I have the same exact bike, and that was my issue. Here's mine last year when I was dealing with it: ua-cam.com/users/shortsXcnXi_fhaMk This is extreme, because I have the whole cover off, but see where I melted the plastic on my air filter case? That was causing backfires. We'll see if I get it fixed this year. Motor's out, but I have new plastic and new gaskets/rubbers for the chrome side covers. Maybe not your issue, but it's what I've noticed about my own bike.
Where can I find this kit mine just shit out on me.
Do you put tender in before you ser rear cinlder
Do
Man, I just did this! I had the bike running and everything! It only ran off 1 cylinder and didn't do any damage, thank god! I wish I saw your video before hand.. :) I gotta pull my engine and fix it now, what a pain in the ass that you cant adjust the timing in the bike!
I got a 1998 vulcan classis 1500, it does not have an F or R on the crank. It does however have a white line and a circle with a 2 in it. I think the white line is tdc for the rear cylinder as when I add air to it nothing comes out of the exhaust or carb. Any idea if that is correct?
Hi Rich we also have a VN 1500 Cl.Tourer and the same problem. I am fascinated, I would like to buy a sprocket, do you make this part or can you give me the address where I can order it Please let me know the price and delivery time. Thank you in advance for your efforts and best regards from Switzerland Peter. peter@gbs.travel
Awesome work. Where did you get that saddle from?
Can the judge oil gear still be purchased
Contact information for Bob (Judge) Oglesby Contact Bob Oglesby to purchase the Judge Oil pump gear (JOG) Email: rcoglesby56@hotmail.com Due to Bob's work schedule and intermittent internet access, the preferred method of contact is to call his cellphone and leave a message. At times he works in secure environments where he cannot use his cellphone, so, it is important to leave a message.
@@esc349 is the gear still available?
que modelo es la moto? podrias poner una foto de como que el arbol de levas en el cilindro trasero
What are the numbers on the actual gear you have there. Is it 39 tooth.
Where can I get this kit. Mine just took a shit
Did the gear last? I am trying to decide if I want to do this or just go ahead and split the cases.
Alternative : ua-cam.com/video/813ym_dICAg/v-deo.html
you dont have to spilt the case i have seen pepole drill holes and put it in that way
Thank You!
Do you line the notch up with the F or the R? I notice that there is a line leading from the letter to a aokid Line that seems like it would be lined up with the notch instead of the letter. Did the bike run?
The ignition timing is correct if the index notch on the cover aligns with the F or R index line on the alternator rotor.
Clymer manual say that too. The TF mark just to the left of the "F". TR mark for rear jug.
Does there need to be tension on the cam chain when you set the timing?
You ought to have told people that the cog, has to have the F or R facing forward, and up the right way. It's an easy mistake to make, and will throw the timing out 180 degrees.
Hi Michael, I realize this is an old post but I was wondering if it's possible to bolt the sprockets onto the camshafts so they are off 180 degrees? How can I ensure this does not happen. Thanks
@@CPerreault Yes it is mate. Which is why i said, the letter F on the front cylinder, has to face forward, and be up the right way, not upside down. Same for the letter R on the rear cylinder. Good luck with it
@@michaelreynolds9463 Just to be clear, I meant could the sprocket actually be bolted upside down onto the camshaft? The camshaft would thus be positioned off by 180 degrees but with the F or R facing upwards. I'm asking because I'm pretty sure I aligned the sprocket correctly with the letter facing up but the camshaft timing is off 180 degrees. But I bought an engine that came out of a training school so who knows what has been done to it. I've found the wrong bolts installed in different places including one of the cam sprockets. Is there a way to tell if the sprocket is bolted properly onto the cam?
Do they not make a gasket that goes between the head and rocker box?
Nop, just RTV silicone sealant between the head and the rocker box. They are machined as matching parts.
Me encanta la Vulcano 1,500 pero ese motor me ha dejado decepcionado
Assuming the bike was correctly maintained how many miles can you get on these engines before you have to replace the cam chain and/or tensioner? Thanks
That depends on how you ride it.Most people fit the cam tensioner extenders at around 60,000m.Some have then gone on to over 250,000m.But that is Americans, who just sit all day long in top gear,at a constant speed. If you ride the arse off it in England, going up & down the gearbox, and accelerating hard. You will be lucky to get 60,000 out of the chains.
Hello Rich, I'm about to run into that situation, where did you got the metal gear from? did it came with the C adapter and bolts? Thanks for the help man!
hello brother thank you for this video so what you said is to set front first and them set the rear and that it.
Yes! That's what is recommended in the shop manual.
ok thank you brother
Cheers mate thank you.Im wondering if our man would ship to Scotland though,Id need to email him and find out.
That's a good question! I'm sure he would. Might also try calling him. He's a little slow responding to emails sometimes. He's in Georgia, USA so might take that into account for time of day to call.
Hi Rich . How much did you pay for it ?Long wait for this kit? Regards
The kit is $360 and it took a little while to get but it was coming from Georgia and around the time I had ordered it, Georgia had a hurricane come through and he was trying to deal with all of that on top of sending out orders. So mine took a little longer than normal to arrive. Typically, it should arrive within 3 to 5 weeks if you live in the continental U.S. Additional parts will be at least the side cover gasket with runs about $10 on Amazon.
Thanks Rich for the reply but damaged oil pump gear damaged my engine and needed another used engine for my motorcycle.
Sorry to hear of the other may/c issues. Something that might be of interest when fixing the clutch. From 2007 onwards the main spring has a cassellated 'washer' engaged with the main spring to protect the 'tabs' on the main spring from wear against the 'holder'. The additional width of the 'washer' in conjunction with the std oem main spring also provides more pressure on the clutch plates. I've go one on order three weeks delivery from Japan. Thank you for your videos and good speed with the other repairs.
Thanks for the advice! Fortunately, I figured out my clutch issue and have already fixed it. Now it works great, but I'm moving on to my overheating issue and my tank. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Rich, is the installation of the jopg kit a complete success after riding for some time now?
so far, so good with the gear. I've had a few other issues develop (clutch, cracked gas tank, overheating...) but none related to the gear. it definitely still is working because I found an oil leak near the cylinder head. won't happen if it's not pumping oil.
