Currently I'm living in Belding Michigan, but I'm thinking about selling everything off, & moving East of Memphis Tennessee. My goal is to build on roughly between a 5 & 10 acre plot, at least a 14X28 cabin to start. Then possibly within up to 2 years later build another same size to match, to make a it a 28X28 Because I'd like to have 2 bedrooms because I'll renter to help with the build.

You're an inspiration...great job putting one video together from many...I was born in Bath, Maine and thought of going back most of my life. Well, now as I'm getting older I can't fight the feeling anymore 😁, sounds like a song haha. But I'm on the verge of buying 11+ archers not far from Skowhegan. It's all woods and not developed. My cabin plan is a bit bigger than yours and I plan on solor and wind for power. There's a seasonal stream on it too, and being Maine, water won't be an issue 😊. Hopefully by the end of August I'll be there. I plan on LIVING in a large 16' teepee tent like a yurt. Things that make me go hmmm 😂🤣😂🤣. Jerry

Hi, you say the moisture barrier you put up last on the front side bec you ran out of the other one is not the same as you say. Can we agree that the moisture in a house comes from the inside. Americans make there house so odd, to us. From the warm inside of a house you shall have a moisture barrier so you do NOT get wet inside the walls/floor and ciling. Using only Tyvek on the outside and make a ventilated wall from the outside is the better way to do it. Now you got a plywood that is filled with glue and can not breathe and on that a roofing waterproof "paper", no chans for the walls to breath to the outside and your moisture gona stay in the walls. Also no ventilated roof. I also wonder why all do there flooring first, now you got a wet insulation in the floor and same there no moisture membran and why install plywood between the wall and the floor all the way to the outside. Now you can not lift the floor sheets and dry the floor insulation. Much better to just install the floor joists and do the rest when the house is water proof.

You'll have to buy your first load of wood. Can't go on the cheap with that. I realize you have nothing but ""downed trees everywhere""". But your first load has to be completely dry. As in cut last year or the year before. Then every year you'll have to cut or buy #2 loads. That way you never get behind on dry wood. We built woodsheds #3 of them driest first then next years, and lastly this year's load. Keeps it simple and no worries about making or getting a fire going. Took us #3 whole days to cut and split the kindling. We also always kept #2 bags of self-light charcoal and a bottle of charcoal lighter. Making fires was easy as pie. I would imagine buying it would be pretty simple. since that seems to be pretty common up there. Where I live here in Va. They call it Pulp wood. After meeting a couple of them I always had firewood on the cheap. They cut it, I had to do the splitting part lol. But I got it very cheap. Do you have animal traps???? If not, you best get some. Everything eats ""Chickens"" I know a few tricks along that line too. Racoons, martens and possums and birds and bears and everything eats and loves chickens. We had a time keeping them. After #2 years we just gave up. Cheaper to buy eggs anyways. We had a Red-tailed Hawk who figured out where and when too. In, grabbed, and gone in mere seconds. Peace.

  • @thebigfellar7178

Been there done that, got the T-shirt. You've already made #3 huge mistakes brother. When me and the wife did exactly what you did, we had a few years to go over everything. Wisdom more often than not comes from mistakes though. I'm wiser than most. Because I'm dumber than most. You'll woe the day you put that metal roof on. In areas like Maine and Washington state or Alaska, colder wetter states. You'll be colder, because of the metal roof. the constant noise gets old after a few weeks. And T.V. and cell service can't hardly get through them. Also, if you do get a water leak it'll be major, not minor. 2nd you didn't put up black paper, we call it "tar paper". And "green board". Green board is waterproof drywall. Do the green board same as drywall, first. Tape the joints, next goes the tar paper, overlapped of course. Then the T11. It double insulates the exterior; nothing gets through it. Nothing. Another mistake is not painting the T-11 with Valstar exterior paint. It protects from rain or moisture, mildew. Which Maine has more of than most places. T-11 is not what people say it is, not anymore. It used to be indestructible, not anymore. Paint it or suffer the consequences. You also didn't put a vapor barrier under the cabin, your floor will rot without it. We painted ours with an oil-based paint #2 coats then gravel and then plastic and then more gravel. then we sealed it with wood added #2 vents facing north and #1 vent on the other 3 sides. Another cool trick I did later when it was completely dry was to add "Lime "Powdered lime to be exact. Spread it out so it's a fine cover underneath. No more mice or rats or critters of any kind not even spiders. It works. And it's environmentally safe. And it's cheap, has to be the powder looks like flour. I know a guy who built a $200,000 dollar home and didn't put down a vapor barrier. All his floors had to be replaced later. Cost him a fortune too. And lastly put up a gate about 100 feet off the main road. Lock it with an uncuttable chain and lock. And hide a trail camera to catch the gate and road from behind a vehicle. Then put another one watching the front of your cabin. Hide it good. Use the best batteries money can buy for them Energizers Lithium. Any thefts or problems you'll have their vehicle and tag and them on camera. Cheap security. And it works too. Amazon has them for $39-$300. The cellular one's notify you if it trips and you can watch the action on your phone live. As it happens. Someone cutting your lock or breaking in. Call the cops. As you watch and record them. I sure slept better. Need advice I'll follow you. liked subbed notified Peace.

A couple of gallons of Thompson’s water seal pump sprayed on the T-11 would help so much.

Probably to late but I would have put Z channel on the top of the first row of t-111 then put up the second row to block rain from slipping between the cracks getting behind the wood if you could pull down the second row (on top) could fix before it rots the T-111 from the inside

Yeah my first build I didn’t know too. I could knock it out from the inside and throw some z channel in there. Thank you for the advice buddy. I appreciate you watching
