Morning Glory clouds occur regularly in the Southern part of the Gulf of Carpentaria, around Burketown, in Queensland (an Australian state), between September and November. Only about four or so are really well formed each year. Sometimes they have multiple waves and can be up to a thousand kilometres long. Have been known to the local Aboriginal people for thousands of years. The place attracts glider pilots each year wanting to 'surf' them. They also occur in other places in Oz from time to time, but Burketown apparently has near perfect characteristics for their formation.
