Congratulations on birth of your son. Interesting to see the difference in the Austrian mess kit. I am familiar with the Swedish M44 and M40 mess kits. Thank you for sharing.

Good stuff ~ thanks for the review/comparison. The Austrian kits are far more available these days and can be found at a fair price.
Swedish kit is missing three of it's five componants, alcohol burner, windshield and fuel bottle. All integral parts of the kit.
This is very good information about these two mess kits. I hope you won't mind a small suggestion. It would be much easier to follow, and understand what you're saying if you weren't banging around the noisy mess kit parts while you were talking. It's very distracting. Perhaps you could also place a table cloth, or bandana on the table to make it less noisy.

don't have big hills where I live but think it does quite well, he has a small drop in speed but nothing that bothers me

If you get a slightly longer Ferro rod that sticks through the bottom of the pouch and tie a piece of elastic shock cord through the handle and wrap it around the protruding part of the rod will securely hold it in place. I have done this with my knives and it works like a charm.
