Armed Forces Museum Of Norway, Oslo - No Talking Commentary - Quick Tour
Переглядів 696Місяць тому
At the end of September, I chose to pop to Norway for a weeks long holiday. I had never been to the country before and to explore it and learn about the country. Whilst in Oslo for the first part of my holiday, I naturally had to pop down to the Armed Forces Museum in the city that's located at Akershus Fortress. It's an excellent museum to visit. Very well laid out and plenty of see and read. ...
Overlord Show 2024 - Sunday Afternoon Battle
Переглядів 5146 місяців тому
The Overlord Show is a military show, mostly focusing on the Second World War that is held in the South of England in Hampshire. This was the first time I had attended and it was a good day. Lots of trade stalls, good amount of food and drink and it wasn't overly crowded on the day I attended. This is the final battle that took place in the afternoon on Sunday 26th May 2024 featuring a Valentin...

Super quick tour this one! I had to record this video again on the day I visited because I messed up by not turning the microphone on when walking around! So I had to head back to the hanger from the other side of the museum when I found out and walk-through it all again! And I was short of time, so it was a double time thing! Excellent hanger at Duxford with some impressive exhibits! How they ...

A walk through tour of the Big Space at Chatham Historic Dockyards. This exhibit is a room full of all sorts of artefacts that don't quite fit anywhere else in the museum. It's certainly one of the most interesting places in the museum because of the items this warehouse stores. A quick tour of HMS Cavalier, a C-Class Destroyer built during the Second World War. Not a very informative tour because I'll be honest, I don't know much about the ship because I'm no historian. I just like historical things! But it is a cool ship to walk around on though. As a regular to Duxford I too heard the building was going. I believe it is due to the roof leaking and other things wrong with it. The exhibits are to be placed in the other hangers at some point, but this is going to happen over a number of years
This shit is weak. The viking's are too cowardly to shed any real blood! They didn't eat enough Whipped Cream Krumkake!!! Or custard without the mustard. Isn't it time to man up. Blue toothless the ruthless didn't even fight like a lion.
Cool as fuck
Nice museum, but one tip. When making a video keep movements slow. Moving around quickly can make people dizzy.
Noted. Will bear that in mind next time!
Where's Drachinifel?
Some really good acting this year. The arrow to the eye was well done as was Lady Edith. Bravo!
Sorry, Not bat , but your jumpes, wäre to fast.greetings
Yeah. Sorry about that. When I got back to England I saw that and realised I made a huge mistake. When I next go to a military museum, I will take more time when filming instead of rushing everything!
great view ya'll had at the end...
Then the Winged Hussars arrive!
I wonder…what if the reenactors really tried to hit with full force
Depends if it's someone they know and have arranged to go for it, but typically that's for tournaments. On events like this it can get your group uninvited from going back.
@@Dave-ks9fi It's impossible to fully reenactment a medieval battle, because well no one wants to kill eachother and see blood, the real adrenaline, and desperation of the fight. Guess I gotta time travel and be in IRL
@@Y_ooKang I'm aware of that. Just I also do full contact, where we use a lot more force. As do a few of the others there naturally we aim for the armour and just bruise each other, but then I do HEMA where we wear modern protection and practice the real move. Combine the two and yes we would die and get maimed, which of course nobody would want to do or watch. Your question was what if we used full force in the reenactment which I assumed you meant belting people hard in the armour, the answer to which is we might get collared by the marshal and potentially banned from coming back. Bigger battles people may get away with that and injury/ damage happens. Nobody would truly recreate the battle as it would be horrible 🫣
@@Dave-ks9fi tru
I used to be a re- enactor like you until I took an arrow in the eye.
Great video mate I’m the one who had the rope on the back of the belt and got tapped on the shoulder as 2 of us moved
can you imagine how itching they would have been to do the battle for real?
Saxon hero…they called themselves ENGLISH!!
This is actually a really cool reenactment. If you times it by 20 it would be the battle
And a pint of Harvey's 😆
Wonderful place to visit. I never get bored of a repeat trip just so much going on and all displayed in a thougthful way.
A fantastic event to be a part of! We loved every minute and are all looking forward to coming back!!
Pa cuando una recreacion con elefantes de guerra
Good walkthrough. I'll be up there on Thursday. Sadly all this will be gone soon. No idea why.
Thank you. Hearing the news it was going made me visit it before it went. Granted it'll be a year before it goes, but it will be sad to see this exhibition hall go. Apparently they're demolishing it and building a new high tech building energy efficient building for different purposes. Hopefully the exhibits won't go back into private collections.
@@bburchellphotos I might drop by tomorrow actually. Going up the M1 and back down the M11. Bletchley Park or Duxford Humm .... toughy....
@@DIVERBLOKE1 Well... Bletchley Park isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but the Land Warfare Hall is... maybe Duxford ;-) Or be really quick and run around both?! haha

Most British Combatant on the thumbnail. Red skinned like a crab. Nice video indeed!
Зачем плашмя рубить мечем?)
Woah, those guns sound very loud. Do they ever get hearing problems after years of re-enactments? This looks like a fun though, I love history. I've been clay pigeon shooting before, the kick back of the shot gun is quite ferocious. Do you need special permission to do these events from the police? These are real guns are they not? They will be subject to firearms laws, won't they?
they are black powder guns, blank firing. black powder guns are subsonic so substantially quieter than modern weaponry.
"And the saxon warriors are getting up to live to fight another day, i need help to ressurect them!" XD
I didn't know the Saxons had a necromancer
I'm not sure if it's intentional for safety, but if these were truly inexperienced and untrained troops, I can see why a lot of rounds go too high and miss.
Crazy how this was how war was once fought and on a much larger scale then shown here
And not by dweeby nerds lol
Nah bro, can't go visit the city rn, shits firing at therw 💀
This looks like fun, NGL, but the audience was packed tighter than the shield wall.

I wonder what environmental protection has to say about this 😂
Probably not much. Activities like this are educationally and culturally valuable and the impact of the small amount of smoke is tiny compared to literally anything else. Apart from maybe some extremist types but they are basically oil industry plants at this point.
0:33 The Ukrainians in a battle of Hastings? LOL! Are you sure?
Were graves used as cover in the original battle? Otherwise I'd find that a bit distasteful, no offence. Good video though.
Hows it exactly distasteful? They aren't desecrating the graves in anyway.
@@balls9420 It's holy ground and a resting place for peaceful solitude, not appropriate for this sort of display.
@@Dryhten1801 If they can hear us through 6 feet of dirt and a casket when they are dead. We got bigger problems. Also it wasn't until about 120 years ago that graveyards were desolate and peaceful. They used to be used as greenspace hosting fairs and fireworks shows or even for picnics. So this wouldn't be much different. I mean I don't want a grave. But if I had one I would love for it to be involved in some renactment. I don't want to be in a dead creepy graveyard. I would like it to be a nice place that isn't forbidden from the living to ever disturb.
They probably were. When you’re being shot at, I doubt the dead guy matters more than the about-to-be-dead guy, AKA “you”
dead people were literally used sometimes in desperate defensive situations as cover and light infantry or skirmishers actively use dead bodies as cover by proning behind one. No one gives a shit about the dead when their own life is on the line
Don't believe them, they're not people, they're ghosts of the past rising up, reliving the moment of their death.
Such an interesting era in history when the time of Knights have ended, and the rise of newly modeled army with both guns and traditional weapons in linear warfare, with troops wearing whatever clothe they have, as long as it's under the same colour.
I mean, knights also had guns in the early modern period but that's only 200 years of a transition era into the industrial revolution
@@jonh101 you mean the cuirassiers? they're not actually knights, they're more like armored cavalrymen that are recruited.
Last actual (or idk) knight was in *some balkan country.* during WW2, litteraly charged at german panzer's horseback
@@ZeroScotland Nah, I think those were Polish cavalry, cavalry had been common in war since the start of war.
@@ShodaiGojira-xn3xk lemme guess, polish troops rode to battle with their Anti-Tank rifles? *i mean yeah they are a good example*
I’d love to know the misfire rate by the end of the event with modern equipment, powder and maintenance.
needless to say targeteers were invaluable until pikes were completely phased out and musket lines were more reliable, so cqc was inevitable at this time, and misfires due to logistical issues would certainly inform such engagements.
@@drlca6601 An unexpected rain 2 hours into a battle would honestly break my morale and send me sprinting away screaming. Regardless of how effective cord may be in weather.
Are these annoyed campers from carry on camping because the toilets are blocked ?
is it real guns?
They are. Well, real muskets, matchlocks and cannon that is. They all used real black powder and could fire solid shot if they wanted too
Cool stuff
I was there when that happened 😂😂😂
We attended. TBH found the reenactment rather slow and a bit feeble. The abbey itself is beautiful and the musicians at the back of the abbey were brilliant entertainment
I guess it all depends on the numbers. Tewkesbury has a very large reenactment battle but it's a fair distance to get to. Sadly such events all depend on the number of people who are prepared to be a reenactor and make it to such events. For me personally, one of the things I really enjoy is wandering around the living history camps and chatting to the actors. Not only do you learn a lot, they're always really lovely people and a good laugh.
The actual battle lasted from about 9:00 A.M. until dusk, so really this was super short comparatively.
@@bburchellphotoswhere does this reenactment take place
@@Wake-up90 It's takes place in the town of Battle in East Sussex North West of Hastings in the UK.
Years ago we werew able to put on some really spectacular shows but in recent years English Heritage have limited the number of reenactors allowed on site and the show has suffered. It used to be a highlight of the reenactment calendar each year. In 2006 we had 4000 reenactors from all over the world and included 100 cavalry and the same number of archers. Now budgets and EH rules don't allow for that.
"Hon hon hon! Dex aie!" :D

Saw my grand daughter. Her first battle at Battle.
is it me or every single reenactment battle would be better if the commentator would just shut up?
They wouldn't know what to do with themselves. They would just do a nonstop internal monologue, I suppose. As he gets up, and goes to the bathroom. Yes, he's now having a pee. He's now putting toothpaste on the toothbrush, and as he commences to brush his teeth...&c
