One should read the bible honestly. No Christian does that.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Interesting concluding statement. I'm curious how you are defining 'Christian' and 'reading the Bible honestly'.
@charleshegwood3896 No problem answering you. Happy to find someone with some quality here, theist or not. Thanks for the questions. Christian? Someone who imagines bible myths are true, especially the NT Reading the bible honestly? For someone to read the bible honestly, they would approach it from a neutral perspective. If they have heard some of the myths before, a skeptical approach would also be honest, as in 'lets see'. Imagining the stories are true before reading is neither balanced or honest. And yes, the first time I read a bible fully, it was approached with some skepticism, but I was open to what it had to say. As in these, stories sound like bs but let's see. Since then I've read four versions fully. They are all consistent in one thing, and its not complimentary. I do also have a library of approx 200 books on religion/christainity.
Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions. Would you consider yourself atheist (there is absolutely no God or gods) or more agnostic? I will say that we all have preconceived perceptions of the world around us that are rooted in our epistemology. Therefore I would say no one can really approach any subject without some level of bias. That is not a bad thing, it's just reality. So when I approach the Bible I ask, how was it originally received by the writers and first readers. So I start with what they meant for the text to say and start there and ask, 'So what follows?' (This is a short take on a longer point but for the sake of brevity here it is) I was fortunate to grow up in a home that allowed me to question the Bible and my beliefs. I also encourage those I teach to do the same. I think we both can agree that an environment that won't allow any questions is unhealthy. I actually do watch and listen to quite a few atheists, as well as my atheist friends. I think we may also agree that open discussion is a healthy thing. Again thank you for your time and answers. @@MrAuskiwi101
@charleshegwood3896 I'm a very strong atheist. Along the same lines as also not believing in pixies, the tooth fairy, flying pigs, Santa etc.
