Billy Casey Tribute at Second Annual Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags
My uncle used to race his Roadrunner at Dover. Thanks for posting this.
Glad to have played a small part in Dover history and to have been at this first reunion to see old friends.
loved this video. Several Dover Legends were there who are no longer with us. R.I.P.
Found this video and I really enjoyed it. Brought back many memories of days gone by. I grew up with Pat Henneberry and Doug Smith and most likely would have been involved in racing more if I had not gone into the US Army for 10 years. R.I.P. Pat, you are missed.
Awesome the clearest best Dover videos I’ve seen so far 😎😎😎 I drive past the former drag strip entrance several times a week such a bummer it’s all gone would be like Lebanon Valley south had it survived . Hopefully the Modena track idea happens 👍🏼.
"Safety" be damned, we need places like this and cars like these in America
Looking into that black and gold '39 chev
I'm guessing Summer of '63?
RIP Lee Valentine !!
I was there
Jimmy tritto Bronx New York still alive in Florida
Cool video. I did not see evidence of circa 1974 until around the 17:47 mark. Based on the hairstyles and cars (especially slingshot dragsters), up until then the description of ‘68-‘71 seems really accurate to me. I think it jumps a few years in the last quarter to ‘73-‘74.
Same
This is the definition of pure awesomeness !!! H_ll yeah !!!!!
Awesome video. Thanks
I enjoyed the music very much!
was there every Sunday as a local 14 yr old it was the hottest ticket to be had Ron Abbott's rail hell's A Poppin was my favorite driver , met Big Don Garlits there also great memories thanks for posting these vids.
I didnt see a single car that made me think 1974. Especially the dragsters and altereds. Definitely late 60s. No rear engine dragsters. No door slammers models newer than 68 that i saw.
Only in the last quarter of the video are there cars that could be filmed in 1974. There are some ‘72 at earliest trucks, and a ‘73 at latest Mustang in some shots. But the slingshots at the beginning of the video make MUCH more sense in ‘68-‘70 time period. Same with the clothing/hairstyles. In the last quarter is where the guys sport long hair that could be ‘74.

Dont believe >ts 1974
Where was this place??? Looks like the Strip Blazer and pretty sure that was Malcolm Durham.
Wingdale NY. Dover Drag Strip.
This video Made me so happy and so sad, At the same time ,Missed Thank you for memorys
Hilborn injected nail head looked interesting.
back in them days the Fords dominated the tracks
Just like u s 30 dragstrip Merrillville Indiana Raced there in 70s and 80s. Got closed because of noise as subdivision built up. Few years ago you could still park on the street and walk down the strip. Over grown weeds and all An incredible experience. AHRA STILL IMPRINTED ON THE STARTING LINE
Just subscribed
Do you remember a dragster named phouy that raced at dover in the late 60's
In late '68 or early '69 I was 16 and borrowed my mom's dark blue '65 Falcon 4 dr., "peppy'' 6 cyl., automatic for the day with my friend on a Sunday. I know I didn't tell her I raced it (turned a 17: something) and I'm not so sure I even told her where I was going. From Yonkers we drove up the smp and rt.22 (684 didn't exist). I remember only the Rye Ford Mustang at 9:05.
There’s a Rye Ford Mustang like that that still races at Lebanon Valley Dragway. There’s a Hemmings article about it.
ran C/MSP in the early 60's at Dover, great memories...
I guess someone likes Corvettes!
i would give a zilloin dollars if i had had the forethought to film all the stuff i and friends went thru in the 70`s and early 80`s with cars .. i dont even have a picture .. they were just cars and we were just living them .
My father Al Peters and his Great friend Don Scinto ruled that place in stock elimator Then they went home to Bridgeport and raced them on the street
Don Sinto did all the machine work on my 283 block for my 58 corvette. It is still together today!
I had the good fortune to go there a few times as a kid in the early-mid 70's..Miss it.
When it was fun living around there. Stock car races at the Racarena on Saturdays and drag racing in Dover on Sundays.
what year did they install the Christmas tree??
I loved Dover Drag Strip, so many fond memories and so many Great racers!
I loved this track, Wingdale NY. Great racers and Great cars! Won the last race there in May 76 running a drag bike!
I loved Dover as a kid and went every Sunday I could to watch. These guys were really great builders and drivers. A few years later I was blessed having won the last race ( drag bike) overall winner on May 23rd, 1976 I believe. Still have all my time slips.
joe and charley masons motion camaro at the 4;03 mark
The blue & white funny car is Ron Leaf's ex-Dick Loehr "Stampede" Mustang.
From my visits there I believe I lost half my hearing.
Billy Casey... He was my friend and neighbor... Go see: doverdragstrip.com/forums/topic/casey-at-the-track/
Closed in 1976
Great to see the 'old farts' and hear their stories. Too bad that the ones that had already been interviewed didn't have the courtesy to refrain from talking while the last few got the chance to speak their piece
