I'm an avid gamer of all genres, but with a particular love of strategy and tactical games. I made a few videos to share with friends and then decided to share them with everyone via UA-cam, so here I am! I'm mostly focusing on Combat Mission after action reports right now and I'll try to get them out as often as I can but the games can take a few weeks to play so it's not always a fast process.
Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg - A Dark and Volkssturmy Night
A meeting engagement between Lykas and Taki with both of them playing Volkssturm, at night in the fog on an urban map.

A medium sized Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg meeting engagement between @bomberfox8360 (GER) and myself (USA). Bomber Fox's video of the same game: ua-cam.com/video/zyJzyoB0p50/v-deo.html
Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg - Armoured Tragedy (PvP)

A Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg game with UK (me) vs Germany (Taki). This game came about because Steel Division 2 had recently added two divisions that made heavy use of Fireflies and Achilles so after playing them in that game I wanted to try them out in Combat Mission. It did not go as well as I'd hoped.
Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg PVP - Lost in the Fog

This was the first video I recorded, I didn't realize the video was so jittery until it was done. That issue is fixed in future videos :) A short CMFB battle between American paratroops and the German army. Dense fog complicates things.
Combat Mission Battle for Normandy - Luftwaffe Defense (PvP, Full Game)

A pvp Combat Mission Battle for Normandy game! This is the full game from the perspective of the Germans. Sorry for the audio crackling issues, still trying to track down and sort the cause of that.
Interesting, it looks like neither side used any "fire on position" orders. Is the volkssturmgewehr range so short? I grt the need of being sneaky, but with unit morale so low, I'd think that some preoaratory suppression wouldnt hurt
I think it was mostly the weather. It was night and heavy fog, so visual range was only about 30m. They wouldn't have been able to give fire on position orders past that range.
Very enjoyable video. I'd say your main flaw was playing your armor too aggressively and over-committing your infantry to that treeline on the left flank. If I were you, I would have pulled my infantry back into the central farm and hoped to ward off a German offensive before launching my own counter attack. The treeline was simply too small to have all that infantry bunched up there and German armor clearly has the advantage due to better armor and firepower (not to mention how artillery explodes on trees and makes it even more potent). You also didn't bring any HMGs which would make it harder to gain fire superiority over German guns. Your best bet would be to shorten the engagement distance and force the Germans into the same susceptible treeline you were in, along with forcing them to try and cross an open area if they wanted to take the farm VP. I then would have put more of a concentration of infantry on the right side to try and take the town. The Jagdpanther would have to be engaged by multiple vehicles from multiple flanks in order to defeat it. Kudos to you and your opponent though.
Good analysis. I was fixated on stopping him from getting across the river at all, but letting him cross and then hitting him while he was bottlenecked by the crossing points would have been better.
@@valdusaurelian looking forward to seeing more pvp AARs from you in the future, you earned a sub.
Clarification for the end game screen it's not "troop total" at the top but how many men they have left who aren't dead or wounded. Looks like both sides took around 30% casualties which is historically when most forces break
Ah yes, you are correct, good catch. I think my brain was still trying to make sense of the chaos when I got to the end screen.
@@valdusaurelian Entirely fair, that was a mess of a battle
I love this. It's like they were walking passed each other thinking they were on the same side. Very chaotic!
I don't really know what that was, but it was entertaining.
Sums up how I felt while watching it too.
Gang warfare in the reich
Omg, the british player did not use the reinforcements.
Almost clicked away but glad I didn't. The light show was fun. Thanks for the vid. :)
Really nice video. Would like to play this QB map, which one is it?
Thanks! The map was "Rough-Town-Water (1408 x 704) 045m.btt".
I watched the video of your opponents game and it was great to see your viewpoint as well. Would be good to see more like this!
Haha nice one! I love videos like this! My only complaint and I don't know why but I love watching players set the unit movements each turn, I think it's cuz it's suspenseful when things go wrong and I get to watch how you make the best out of a bad situation in real time.
Game name?
Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy
You had one job hans ONE JOB !!!
A good result, if a tad costly. Nice easy on the ear commentary as well. I look forward to the day you start making campaign videos.
The Stuglife ain't easy
Panzerschreck is written with a "c" between s and h. "sch" in German is the equivalent of "sh" in English (also pronounced the same). Also it needs a "ck" at the end. It has nothing to do with the green ogre "Shrek". Schreck in German means "scare". So "Tank Scare".
I will make sure to double check my spelling next time :)
Your profile picture suggests that you rape animals, is this correct?
Always good to see more combat mission stuff on youtube
That Wirblewind costs a lot of points, and like the US in this one, it's usually better to have more bodies.
There was no need for me to use halftracks on such a small map. That’s where all the points were going. Definitely could have benefited from ditching all those vehicles and getting another platoon. :) I actually think the werbelwind was the only unit on my side that paid for itself.
i really like your videos, keep up the good work :)
Let me know when you're up for a match! Nice vid! Nice match!
nicely done. Great attack
Its awesome seeing both sides of this battle. Its interesseting that you pretty much see all of his units and he was the majority of the time blind. The Arty did more damage than I thougt. Thank you for uploading, I hope you 2 will meet again.
Great fun... unless your halftrack gets nailed early... that will ruin your day... ;) Well done!
That was the fastest game I've seen 😂
Love CM.
I'm very happy that the Combat Mission AAR community is still alive and well. I'm very eager to see your future content !
Up for a pbem match I'd be an honour... CMFB
I have a CMFB Map ME for us if your interested...
Nice AAR, good discription of game action.
Good AAR. Looking forward for more =) I am a dogshit strategist but I think it would have been beneficial on this map to keep one or two Trucks as QRF Battletaxis. Plus they come with a bunch of Ammo and I believe some Panzerfausts aswell =)
You should give your Panzerschreck teams a 'armor target arc' to prevent them from engaging enemy infantry and giving away their position. Also, giving some of your infantry teams a 'target arc' is a great way to set up ambushes.
1:06:30 Your panzershreck team will keep attacking the tank because it's still considered 'live', as in while the crew have bailed out, if they can be coaxed back into the tank later it will still be functional (minus whatever damage or crew lost due to previous strikes). A tank is only 'dead' when the icon disappears. Also your opponent made a series of errors here in not exploiting the Brits greatest strength, indirect fire. British formations have a LOT of mortars, both 2 inch and 3 inch, both of which can be used to great effect in hedgerow country in a direct fire role. Also Crocodiles have plenty of flame ammo, he should absolutely be using 'recon by fire' to clear suspected enemy positions, ideally by sending some ~expendables~ , er, scouts to draw fire, then hose down the area with flame - rinse and repeat.
Really enjoying these videos!
What kind of settings did u have on for this game? The balance of forces seems very equal, possibly tipping into a generally more powerful German force, being crack. Not sure if the Brit player stood much of a chance against that force in the defence
It was a probe so he would have had 50% more points than I did, but he brought offmap artillery + target reference points and more armour. The crocodiles in particular are fairly points heavy.
@@valdusaurelian makes sense, great content keep it coming ❤️
why are your officers not with your troops?
The platoon HQs are with their platoons but the company and battalion HQs are all together in a command post. I was too spread out to keep the company HQ in close contact with all the platoon HQs so they'd be using radios anyway. I decided to put them all together to allow them to talk amongst themselves when they are sharing info from company to company. I have no idea if that makes a difference or not but it seemed like a decent idea.
@@valdusaurelian Ok thanks for the reply. I don't think it makes a difference. You could keep them in support for when platoon HQ's get killed or break.
Awesome vid, really enjoyed this!
16:00 thats the reason why german infantry doctrine kinda fell apart germans were like machinegun is base of fire and centre of attention, while allies went ham with mortars, and mortars do better suppression that machineguns could
Just found this channel - thanks for showcasing CM AARs. That British arty barrage on the right objective landed a bit short and was largely wasted.
Nice video, also cool profile pic. How do you extract the replay files? Do you just go turn by turn grabbing the replay file before it gets deleted or?
Thanks :) I've mostly been playing as manual PBEM instead of PBEM++ so that I have the save file for every turn. Once the game is done, I can go back and load each file to record it.
@@valdusaurelian Ah damn, Cause i mostly do turn-based LAN against my friends, and yeah. So it seems i gotta do manual PBEM for one of theese.
The south bridge is east on the map, so it's an error on the part of the battle designer, not you. When I played CM TRP's weren't allowed in meeting engagements as they are supposed to represent accidental contact, and not a planned attack / defence.
That's not a bad idea. We were okay with TRPs, but for meeting engagements and as the defender in an attack/defend we don't allow immediate start artillery strikes.
Panzer-Shrek? That’s an armoured green ogre! Correct spelling is “Panzerschreck” (armored’s vehicle fright) Historical games/novels/movies should get easily google-able names of persons, places and things correct! Failing to do so is a very insulting laziness!
I've watch something about this game before, very unique. Also have you seen "broken arrow" you might like it, there will be another open test in November i believe if you wanna check it out
Yeah as soon as you showed the mine position blocking the only exit route for your stug, ik something bad would come of that lol
The second you showed the stug position and the mine it was so clear that this stug is gonna go right in that mine...it was the only way to move
Excellent video... thanks for putting it together. :)
Always button up before making first contact
Im very happy to finally see more combat mission content on my youtube feed, reminds me im not the only guy struggling with tactical problems lmao
whats that? fresh channel with commentary on this game that only 5 people play? grab a sub man, i await for more
5 people? There's at least a dozen of us!
@@valdusaurelian more of a metaphore than actual count, in any way, compared to anything else there is just too few good combat mission youtubers

@@wojszach4443 maybe they like to play and not comment
i realised at your very start that your setup (STUG at outermost left position, mines on an inward leading road would lead to desaster (namely your STUG getting blown up by your own mines). Ande than exactly that happened
