This is all BS! After paying tons of money, there is also the very real possibility that you get the added frustration that you not get the room you want or the exact dates you want. And that is AFTER paying the contract, the dues taxes. Seems like NOT a good investment. Now watch what happens when the parks close due to a pandemic. You all get screwed.

One of the best decision I ever made. We love it. I sold 100 of my points recently for Grand FL and make 3000 more dollars than when I made the year prior. I have lost zero money.. Great decision

A person has to be crazy to purchase DVC. Just get a hotel when you feel like going. Don't be locked into going to Disney for your vacation. We did have time share at Wyndam Bonnet Creek ( at Disney) which is more reasonable and flexible, very quick, easy, one call. Going to Disney and all that money gouging has taken the whole place off my radar.

If you have a 100 point contract at Poly and you did a 1 week stay in Sept. it's 104 points. Your total cost with maintenance is around $900, vs if you try to get it cash it's closer to $4K through Disney Resorts.

Mid summer, SE Alaska gets dark at 11pm and light again around 2am. Mid winter we get dark around 4:30pm and light again around 9:30am. These are the extremes, depends on what time of year you go, April/May is going to be different than July/Aug. Do your research of ports, don't get caught in tourist traps near the ship/downtown areas. Keep to the sidewalks downtown and do NOT stand in the road to take pictures or diddle dally when crossing. Taking the local bus is a lot cheaper, but locals get annoyed when the bus is clogged up (especially with luggage) when they have jobs/appointments to get to. Unfortunately with the time constraints you have by taking a cruise, you will not get to see most of SE AK's best areas because you don't have time to really explore the towns or trails. Most locally owned places are not going to be downtown near the ship. What we have is an infestation of greedy people from out of state that only come during cruise season, take up valuable space, hire people from the lower 48, and reap the profit to take back home instead of into the community.

The transient tax is offensive!

I don’t think people without reservations can book a moonlight magic reservation the system verification stops them. They jump in the queue and extend the line but they aren’t taking registrations because they get rejected.

Thanks for this! Ive sailed on Carnival and Royal Carib and Disney is the only cruise line that I found booking excursions to be stressful. There is an open period for longtime Disney members and by the time it opened for general public, many popular ones were already sold out.

You not paying Grand Californian transient taxes has nothing to do with you being grandfathered in, the transient taxes instead of being a separate charge like at the Villas at Disneyland Hotel, are built into your dues at Grand Californian. Unlike VDH where you're only charged the transient tax upon checkin, Grand Cal owners pay this tax regardless of if they use the points at Grand Cal or not. Now the transient taxes at Grand Californian are far less compared to Disneyland Hotels which is a result of Josh D'amaro telling the city to tax Disney fairly so they look better to the city and can build new projects (Disneyland Forward). But make no mistake, your transient taxes are in your dues even though they're a lot less than the 2.73 that VDH pays.

Yikes, do people really vacation every 3rd year? Probably the most efficient way to do an extended vacation is to have enough points for a week and a half, starting on the first weekday night, and including only one weekend. Those California taxes are crazy. We own three resale contracts with Hilton and Wyndham, so I get the draw to expand!

yeah they do have delayed cruises in other places. we went on a 7 night cruise out of san diego and left a couple hours late. I was actually happy we left late as we got to see san diego at night and get the most beautiful pictures of downtown san diego

Also if you plan on doing photography I recommend either the Canon rebel t7 or rebel t8 The t7 is the older model but it comes with a lens kit and it's still a very reliable camera and also a little cheaper.

I agree with you, I think the quality of their beds and pillows are lacking. I had back and neck pain due to the bedding our last few visits at Dvc resorts. Thank you for the review. Baylake towers is one resort that we haven’t stayed in yet.

We are booked in this cabin for an Alaskan cruise in September. Hubby and I don’t mind the shaking of a cabin because we are old mariners. Somehow, I don’t think we will use the balcony a lot because of the weather. We like to sit outside in the evening.

We didn't have a good stay at Bay Lake Tower. Wi-Fi was constantly down, and when it came back up, it was spotty. The dryer didn't work, so they came in with a replacement washer/dryer. This time the washer didn't work and didn't drain any of the water. So they brought in a replacement for that. Unfortunately, they brought the same washer/dryer that they took away the first time! Apparently, they didn't have anything else to give us. I would stay away from BLT until they are done with their refurbishments (hopefully soon).
