The Cornish Cottage Garden

Приєднався 27 сер 2023
I'm an avid amateur gardener living in beautiful Cornwall. I've been completely bitten by the gardening bug over the past few years and thought I may as well document my horticultural adventures through this channel. I am by no means an expert but hopefully some of the things i've learnt over the years may be of use to you lovely people.

You’re playing with the sun now😮😮
Yeah they are old, but they work. I use two of them in a 2x4 tent. Perfect fit and light for that type of space. Any more space and you will be missing light. Read the manual on the distance from the plant through its stages and you will be happy. Good luck!
Cool,I have just got a grow tent kit, setting up this week 👍✨
@@GanggangPeanut exciting times! 😁
Hi Mate You will find a hell of a difference with the Mars light, can you imagine how my light my attic is when i have all of my 12 lights on. Good luck with them and happy growing. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@robsallotmentchannel9942 Thanks Rob, i can't wait to get it setup and over a couple of trays! 😁
Awesome a proper nice upgrade that! Are you suspending from ceiling or creating like a carcass for it to reside in ?
@@GrowTropicalMK nah boss, im gonna build a simple wooden frame and suspend it from eye hooks
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf yeah man so much hassle dangling it from a beam!
Happy New Year 2025 🎉 Thanks for letting us know 🙏 I'll do a trip to Tesco as well :) Could do with some bareroot roses 🌹
Oh beautiful choices I really need to get a bleeding heart plant they are stunning. Hope they all do well, Ali 🥶🥶🇨🇦
Yes that what I'm talking about! Those bare rooted plants will be considerably more in April time! Willow is loving being in on the action!
@@GrowTropicalMK Willow has been an absolute punk this evening.
Hi If there was just a little sunshine I would be outside. Today was cold and grey ...not much incentive to get planting💫👏
Great selection. Your garden is going to look beautiful 🌟👏🍰🍎
Awesome.. that's going to look great when covered with Clematis! That's how to do a how to video!
@@GrowTropicalMK nice one boss, there was supposed to be more info but i didnt press record like a cretin
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf worked out well though. You reckon one clematis to cover all ? Or you gonna do a few different ones? That.montana would take over it on its own.most likely
@GrowTropicalMK im gonna invest in more trellis kits i reckon
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf me too. I am sold ! Lots of climbers that need to reach the top, looks real easy too.
👍🌟🤩 Fantastic😅The clematis will look fabulous I'm sure☕🍩
Good idea with the foil over the lights.👍
Thanks 👍
I have done onions, chili, peppers and aubergine so far so good in keeping to my promise to myself to not do too much. I have to go through my flower and see what seeds need to be sown in pots or outside direct. Hope all yours do well, happy sowing happy growing, Ali 😶🌫️🥶🇨🇦
Hi It is much colder this winter. I'm sure your seedlings will survive 🌟🎄❄️
@@77sun222 Hopefully! I hate the cold
Excellent vid, lots of great info!
@@GrowTropicalMK safe like seatbelt bruh
Problem I have when sowing seeds is that I’m checking them every 5mins. So rewarding when they germinate though.
@@Yellowbellytropics Im terrible for checking all the time, im like it with cuttings especially
@ seeing roots form on a cutting makes me feel godly lol
@Yellowbellytropics same as that, it never fails to fascinate how you can turn 1 plant into 10 😁
great stuff, very satisfying work.
Ooohhhh it's going to look fabulous ❤
Will look fantastic come spring. Happy New year, Ali 🥶☔️🇨🇦
Hi Great to get some jobs started in winter. Your garden is huge. Mild snow in my area today. All melted. I can cope with those sort of winters. Only constant rain at the moment...so no gardening.👍👏🌟🎄
That looks great. Really simple easy and effective. This is what I am going to do for my new bed. Thanks for this informative video
Happy new year fellow Cornish friend. I'm a Cornish maid now living in Norfolk, but forever my heart remains in Penzance.. Thankyou for posting your video, and happy growing 🌱
@@Tillysgardeningdiaries-i3y Thanks for watching 🙂
What a relief to start sowing something at last, spring will soooon be here 😀👍
Happy new year ❤❤❤
Yes boss... i missed this one ! Quality start to the year...most lupins do usually come back year after year and look great! That garden is going to look fantastic
Happy New Year 🥳 yep it’s hard not to start but I’ve only done onions, chilli and peppers plus some aubergine. Ok 😂😂 the word only seems out of place. Here’s to an amazing 2025 season. Congrats 🥳 on your first 500 subs and growing, Ali ☔️🥶🇨🇦
@@myrustygarden Thanks so much 😁
Getting a early start my friend, looking forward to seeing them in your garden in the summer.
@@growingmyown oh yes! I couldnt help myself lol
Yep I agree with Mark not your fru fru garden centre 💪, mine looks more like a Christmas 🤶 market 😂. Thanks for the tour, Ali 🧑🎄🎄🥶🇨🇦
What no christmas rubbish ,trees ,tinsel, and lights that they currently have in my local garden ctr 🤣🤣
1:06 Eyes on the prize boss! That is a red star cordyline with a unique trunk, a new one is also growing at the base. How much was that badboy??
Nice camelia boss, that's a great deal and has buds. Some lovely torbay dazzlers there also! 😂
@@GrowTropicalMK you love a dazzler boss 🤣
@TheCornishCottageGarden-bs5lf haha nothing like a TD ! That fatsia polycarpa was a good price.. they get very big also
Hi You bought some great plants. The camelia will look stunning with those white flowers. I've only got a wonderful pink ( unnamed) and red. My Christmas rose buds are visible now too. I think repotting them gave them a new lease of life. Always great to live near a garden centre🌟👍👍👏🎄🎄
Funny enough here the garden centre lays down their big pots if a storms coming 👍👍
I am ok with wind in the day as you can see what’s it’s doing but nighttime I find terrifying. Glad you are ok and that’s all that really counts, Ali 🥶🇨🇦
Hi You were lucky with storm Darragh. Looks like the rhodo needs repotting anyway... I'm so glad that you brought your beautiful plants from the former garden. You looked after them so well. I have not been in my garden for three days now. The storm is grumbling and so far nothing even mildly serious has been damaged. It's stealthy, though. If you pop outside it starts growling again, and i quickly run indoors. Will the weather ever be normal again? We just used to get winds in November, then ice and snow in the winter. The worst being snow drifts. Best to find indoor jobs and keep warm🌟🤩🎄
It's probably the universe's way of saying, "Plant your Rhodendeon in a bigger pot," lol 😂 Andrew, not 100% sure if it'll help, but I have placed a broken paving slab in one of my lightweight greenhouse tiers to stop it from getting blown away during storms.
@@S_M20000 lol good point!
Nice boss, looks like your garden fared pretty well. I fear that my cheap lightweight greenhouse may run into major issues if the winds were any stronger. Pretty surprised it was all in one piece this morning.
@@GrowTropicalMK yea im suprised i didnt sustain major damage tbh!
Nice decor boss! Nice lot of seeds there
I have just painted our Lounge walls the same colour as your attic. It's a really warming colour a nice change from the grey we had previously. Nice mix of seeds.🌱
@@RogerTheGardener Its nice calming environment isnt it 🙂
🤦♀️ I can’t remember where I stored my grow lights so I’ll be off searching now 😂. I need to go,through the flowers and see which ones can be direct sowed in the cold. It’s minus 1c most mornings here but no snow yet. Some beautiful flower choices there 👍. Stay safe and warm, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
I love antirrhinums too. Do you usually have success sowing them?👏😲☕
@@77sun222 Great success, one of the easiest to grow, pretty much disease and pest free, never get eaten by slugs and snails 🙂
Nice simple leaf mold pen which I like. Where did you get the pole/rods from?

@@richf_tropical_garden_projects couldnt be easier!
Fantastic, this looks really easy to do. Very informative video
@@GrowTropicalMK nice on boss!
Hello Great start to leaf moulding🌟👍👏
Few suggestions from what I grow in my shade garden. In my dry shady areas I rely on spring bulbs, foxgloves, aquilegias, asplenium and dryopteris ferns, epimediums, aucuba japonica shrub and several varieties of carex grasses and geraniums. Now that they are established pieris, fatsias and philadelphus are also growing well in dry shade, although pieris requires acidic soil. Rhododendrons however will struggle in a dry spot. If you’re lucky enough to have damp moist ground under those trees then you have a lot more choice, rhododendrons being one of them although they are another shrub requiring acidic soil. I’ve recently added Hakonechloa grasses and several hellebores which thrive in damp areas and once established can survive a dry situation as long as it’s not in direct sun. Have fun and Good Luck !
Lovely video. And new subscriber from cornwall aswell
