The simple answer is that you can basically use any of the methods to grow anything. Different methods provide different upside depending on the plant you are growing. An NFT system will be optimal for leafy greens and herbs, while a drip system can be designed to work with much larger plants. For the most part if you are trying hydroponics at home, it will be about convenience, what fits in your space, and what is within your budget to buy or build. Our recommendation for an at home system would be Kratky, DWC, or drip, as all can be made from things you can buy at your local hardware store and will be able to grow a diverse group of crops.

We do not recommend using glass wool. While the structure of glass wool is similar to the structure of rock wool, glass wool has particles that can cause potential health issues. The rock wool we use is specifically made for hydroponics and you can purchase it online from a variety of vendors at a reasonable price.

Yes, the concept of hydroponics goes back to the late 1920s, and NASA has even done some significant work on it and aeroponics in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. We are definitely not the first ones to commercialize the concept, but we have made it more sustainable with our tech.
