Folks with all levels of performance and skill join us every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month and create a 'happening' each time. We like to videotape performances to capture the magic and the fun. Back in June, 2017, this video of a special tribute to Mac Cole was made at John Henry's Hammer Coffee at First Unitarian Church in Worcester. Performers came then to celebrate the long time host of The Folk 'n A Coffeehouse (started by Mike Duffy) and supporter of acoustic performers in the Worcester and regional areas. Today, Nov. 19, 2022 , acoustic performers once again came together at Joh...

Dear Toni and Dave: I listen to this song at least once a day. But there's one line I'm not sure of. "we're both half passed schedule, let's call it a night." Have you copyrighted this song ? You should. Gerry
bravo!
This a beautiful song, beautifully preformed. Gerry
Wow! Mahalos!
what is the spanish name again?
Hi! Sent a note out to the performers for the name. Will add once I get a response.
The name of the song: “Verbenita”
great rendering of a true classic
I don't speak Japanese but I've always felt the sadness in the artist's voice so I always figured it must be a sad song. I wish I could speak Japanese. I've always loved this tune. This cover was beautiful too. 👏👏👏👍👍
Mexico Moon - Sweet. Enchanting. Smooth.
Live for Laughter - my personal motto. I really enjoy this song.
Love it!
I just now stumbled upon this by sheer serendipity. A real unsuspected ex...prise. 🙂 It's so lively & catchy & clever. And the fiddlin' violinist really sets it off. I love it! I hope there's more. 👍
Thank you… my grandfather sang the chorus a little differently but the verses are exactly the same 💛 he passed last week and we’re trying to find his “campfire” songs online and this was very spot on… thank you for this, god bless you 🙏
Good job
❤️❤️
Great version, Rusty !!
Beautifully done!
this is awesome always wanted to see and hear him play this and never got to at an open mic rip snake
It was 1962 I was 10 . When you said you felt the war was over . It was like we were in harmony with the Japanese all was forgotten and a new start . This went world wide every were . The singer died in a plane crash ❤
😧 Wich year,? Was the plane crash….. I love this song..
what a great version of this tune, Nice work!
Excellent!
Thank you what a great cover, Sir
Linda, your voice is so beautiful, this is my favorite version of this song. I am humbled by your talent.
A lovely song and a great cover. Thanks
Just sing the $#@%$# song
första gången jag hört någon annan sjunga den här låten. Jättebra en stor eloge vacker sjunget
My baby boomer generation was admonished by our parents who fought in WW2 not to have anything to do with anything Japanese. In 1963, this song changed all that.
This is amazing, does he have a UA-cam Channel?
Not sure. I'll check.
@@johnhenryshammeropenmic-fi7006 Thanks!
I asked him (he's on Facebook) but all I got was a thumbs up. Did find this site: www.discogs.com/artist/1426407-Eric-Gulliksen
@@johnhenryshammeropenmic-fi7006 Wow, that's crazy. I found this video totally random by looking for Townes Van Zandt covers. You can tell by the way he sings and plays that he was a musician for a long time. Thanks so much for this research, i'll dig in his music and his facebook! Cheers from Italy
Thank you for sharing this. Such a pretty rendition. I am studying Japanese so this was a beautiful discovery for me.
What a dreadful cover version!!
Thank you for being there - at the <3 of it. It's hard to believe we did it for thirty years. We can't meet there now as we did then but Spirit remains. May all who were there then (inside or out) and all who are there now be as safe and well as possible. May kindness rule.
How so awesome. Ya I was 13 also. Woke one beautiful Saturday morning to this and never forgot the moment.
Cool . . .jammin Dude!
And from now on all your nights will be this way.. awesome job well done I'm sure they shot this video to my scroll as I've looked up every person I could possibly find as I was mastering it and now have mastered it on my harmonica. So glad that I'm not alone in my age or in the love of the song thanks for sharing
美しい Beautiful
Wow. Well done. Adored this song since I was a little kid when it came out. Sadly, no good videos of the original. I think only one that's blurry. This was nice to see.
ありがとうございます。 THANK YOU 🇯🇵
Thank you John, I love to hear you sing this hit, very good, smooth job. I just love the oldies.
Twice
Beautiful Man!! Well Sung! I spent 5 years in Japan. Your version just put a tear in my eye over something I lost 36 years ago. I also look up today so tears wont fall and no one will see. Thank you for a beautiful rendition. Love Man! Love!
Awesome man!!! Great music
Beautiful
すごい! 泣けてきました
Beautiful uke version of this great Iris DeMent tune.
This is awesome;) Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for doing it in Japanese. Huge respect!
I’m half Japanese, born overseas. I remember listening to the original version when my mom played her Japanese records. I didn’t realize it was a crossover hit in America also. I think this recording contributed to the healing process between Japan and the US in the post war years. I don’t know of any other Japanese song that was covered by American artists as much as this one.
I only sing in the shower but I love to sing the words to sukiaki in Japanese or in English. Its a beautiful sad song.
Thanks for sharing the story. 🙏 You have a beautiful, tender, soft voice which does much justice. Kyu would certainly approve. 👍
“Lament” is the perfect description of the mood. The song has a sad overtone even though it is played joyfully. Happy/sad juxtaposition like only the Japanese can do. Beautifully rendered. And I like the sentiment of “generational bond”.
Thanks for using the REAL Japanese Lyrics. 😊 -cheers
