Not they are not. From 2010, Mac used LGA Sockets (LGA1366 to be precise). Previously to that, the processors were delidded and held in place by the heat sink only. SO YOU'RE WRONG AND I'M RIGHT. Haha.
I was thinking the same thing. I think the delidded CPUs might have only applied in the dual processor trays.
I just got an hvx for a company i film for. And 2,000 bucks and some change plus a 300 something dollar support system for the fisheye is out of this world. baf=big ass fisheye

Okay. So you might be getting slightly high temps because of the way you applied the thermal paste. You let the copper heatsink do the work for you. The way you spread the TC allows for trapped air bubbles between CPU and heatsink. Please do not do this. Just put a smal amount of TC on the CPU and mixed it the tip of the syringe thingie. It must be a homogenous mixture. Do NOT spread it out like this. just let it sit in the middle and let the Heatspreader push it to the sides.

Yes. You have too or it will not work!!!

If you want to upgrade it further you can get a Xeon X5690 six core with 3,47 GHz. It scores even higher in Geekbench than the smallest Mac Pro you can get in 2015. Of course you have to run the firmware of the Mac Pro 5,1. But I heavily suggest this, because it's very cheap and easy to make. A second hand X5690 with warranty costs around $300 on ebay.

Yes, it is.
But I have to say in the meantime the price of the processors raised up to $500 so its not that cheap anymore.

You are lucky because for the single processor model you can use the W3690, which is the single processor version of the X5690. It is cheaper and in fact the processor swap is easier on the single CPU Mac Pro, because you don't have to remove the heatspreader on the CPU.
Is it possible to switch out my single Xeon 2.66GHz CPU board with a Dual Xeon 3.33GHz socket CPU? I`ve already updated Firmware to 5,1 before Apple stopped signing the Firmware update.

ALEXX C You sure can by getting a dual CPU board. As long as the firmware is 5,1 Dual Xeon processes work great. LGA 1366 Socket. The Intel i7 would work also, but with Non ECC Ram & it can only be one processor.
