    I think you need a little more than ten minutes to get your historical facts right. At 00:35 there's a beautiful shot of a Lancaster heavy bomber, introduced into the RAF after the start of WW2. But even before that there's a brief shot of the backs of a few Roman era soldiers with no narration to explain either of these crazy 'time-jumps'. I kind of lost interest after that. I'm a military historian and I can't spare even 10-minutes on 'bad', incorrect history. Cheers, Bill H.

      Thanks for the feedback, I suppose we can do better with the imagery… It’s always been generic so not infringe on copyright or post things that are not PC in nature.. Nonetheless, we understand :-)

    • @BillHalliwell
      @BillHalliwell 25 днів тому

      @@Ten_Minute_History G'day TMH, Thank you for not taking my comment as malicious, which was not my intention. As to imagery; I understand your dilemma of not wishing to infringe upon copyright. I've always found basic, thematic, images are plentiful on the net. Take your insertion of a Lancaster bomber from WW2; the way to avoid that is simply to spend several extra minutes going through a video for just such inaccuracies. Images of WW1 or for other conflicts are out there; sometimes almost 'too many', like choosing ties or cufflinks. Stay away from 'image banks' or stock photo sites because, sooner or later, they'll ask for some kind of fee or restriction. A regular Google picture search on really basic topics will always produce many images. So checking your images for a video is just as important as proof reading your narration or voice-over script before uploading. A really appropriate time and or topic image can stay on the screen longer so that your narration can move on to a point where another 'good' image can take its place. Then there are video makers who become too specific when it's not needed. Like a mention of the word, 'meeting', so they insert a modern, generic clip of people having a meeting. Clearly, this is not needed because everyone knows what a meeting looks like. There are hundreds of other examples of this type of over simplification in YT videos. It's an annoying 'filler' and actually it's 'talking down' to your audience. Film and video makers who underestimate the understanding levels of their audience do so at the peril of their reputation and risk viewer backlash; anyway, it's just boring. Holding your audiences' attention is vital to success in this process. So, TMH, you'll pardon this 'stating the obvious' to you; but it is a point that even seasoned content makers forget from time to time. I was trained in documentary making; however, I have no time to make or upload my own videos. For the past several years I've been 'collecting' my YT comments to use as a part of an autobiography MS I'm working on. If you have a moment, take a look at our: ontas.net/ourtom/index.html which is the site of a documentary on a really amazing figure in Australia's past that, sadly, we still need to fund. I started part-time work on this proposed 3 x 1-hour documentary series over 15-years ago. It's still a fantastic story and shows that perseverance in all aspects of film and video making is essential. All the best for your future projects. I'd be working towards longer videos in the future, if I were you. Cheers, Bill H.

    Hey, guys, if you want to give us history, give us HISTORY, not stills and clips of irrelevant aircraft from irrelevant times before and after the war, including multiple posts of U.S. B-17G bombers (The U.S. hadn't entered the war yet and wouldn't 'til Dec. 7, 1941.), some of the stills and clips being of either obsolete aircraft (at least one clip being of W.W. I vintage restored biplanes) or aircraft not yet invented (such as stills of modern C-130 era transport planes). Your historical narrative isn't bad, but there's been an enormous amount of post-war research and photographic/film restoration done giving us evidence of just what circumstances were like in that time, including restored audio tracks of everything from official U.K. and Nazi wartime government radio transmissions and even restored audio tracks of R.A.F. and Luftwaffe pilot communications - so why the sloppy presentation, guys? Seriously? You owe it to yourselves to do a much better job!
