    Great. If I were king I'd take all the great old American styles and put in modern drivetrains. Thanks especially for keeping the standard transmission. Hill holders are a nice touch but for wimps.

    one of the best " improvement " that I've saw, the essence of the car is respected and the execution is much better than the original

    The Dash is BUTT UGLY, The speakers on the rear storage hatch makes the use of the rear storage area near useless, and not having a Trunk lid even more so. I'd rather have storage use over sound any day. I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

    • @58Met3T
      @58Met3T 5 років тому

      The dash now is black leather with white stitching. The speakers incur only a few inches into the trunk area at the seat back. Lots of usable trunk space still left.

    There is only one reason why I hate Nash. The word "economy" doesn't belong in the 50s & 60s at all, it was all about oversizing everything.

  • @OsbornTramain

    Nash Metropolitians weren't produced from the years you claim. The Nash Version last year was 1957. Metropolitians were badged as American Motors, Austin, Hudson and Nash. The Nash name was eliminated entirely from the market place in 57 as well as Hudson. All Metropolitians built for the model years 1958 thru 1962 were either Austin or American Motors.

  • @bobbrueckner7498

    I had a 1960 with an outside trunk lid. It seems to me that you should incorporate that into these.

    • @58Met3T
      @58Met3T 7 років тому

      If I do major body changes, I will put a trunk lid in the '58 body. There is a center line that makes the top of the trunk area more stylish. I would rather have this than the '59 plain trunk. I would have hidden hinges and electric release and strut opener.

    Thanks. The stock GM AC compressor is now on the passenger side, with custom brackets. Adapted/fabricated the inside unit from 1980 Corolla . Vintage Air would have been easier. The main hurdle with the Metropolitan is the narrow wheelbase. There are MGB's swaps to Rover (Buick) v6 and V8, but the Met is Midget/Sprite size. Steering column, rear sump, narrow engine bay calls for cutting away old and fabricating new. Lots of helps on MG Experience web site and Brian McCullough at BMC British Automobile, who likes the GM 60* V6. This project is still not done, after a year, due to lack of time and much fabrication to do. Money involved? Oh, $10,000. Time? LOTS

    A real beauty, here did you get the AC for your car? Also can you tell my approx. how much you have in it, I am thinking of doing something similar to what you have done.

    I would have kept the original engine and tranny. I also prefer the old way the hood opened. Most other changes are very nice.

      You have not had the experience of driving 2 years on the very underpowered original engine. Some people favor all original.

    why not consider the rover / Buick 215 v8? It has been installed in many similarly built and sized BMC cars and would likely give similar economy to the Chevy V6

    • @58Met3T
      @58Met3T 7 років тому

      Space is very limited, both side to side and front to back. The GM v6 is very compact, and gives all the power one would want.

    In response to Charlie, and because I have worn out the Toyota engine, I am in the process of putting a GM 60 degree 3.4 V-6 with SFI (Sequential Fuel Injection). It will have the Camaro/Firebird T5 and posi-trac rear axle. I will have 160 HP and 200# torque, and get 28-30 MPG. It is in process now July 2016. Look for a new improved model for 2017.

    Sorry but that cord dash is about as ugly as I've ever seen. I would've kept it an enamel. My neighbor's wife had a '57 ragtop. She got it new and traded it for a new '64 VW Beetle ragtop. Before she traded her Nash she offered it for sale for $200 but got no takers. It only had 9500 miles on it!! I wanted to buy it and had the money but I was only 14 and my Dad said NO! I always thought they were awesome cars but back then a lot of people laughed at them because they were so small and you were lucky if could get 60 MPH with two people in it. Yours looks like it would be a lot of fun.

      @58Met3T 8 років тому

      Thanks for the negative / positive response. I tried a vinyl padded dash and it did not look good. I have welded in where the ashtray was, so I needed a cover. I may replace the cordoroy one day with something I like better. Yes, it is a blast!

    Why not use a more modern driveline that would have fuel injection for efficiency,mpg,and smoothness.

      As of July 2016, I am putting a GM 60* V6 in with SFI. Soon I will double the HP and torque. I do not know how I will stand having MORE fun with this little car!

      Visit your local Nash dealer to find current prices with options. I have put so many hours into this car, I would not let it go for less than $26,000. And still it is no show car, but a fun daily driver.
