Bikepacking wales with my dog - first dogpacking trip at the Gower in Wales
Переглядів 5357 місяців тому
This is my first dogpacking trip with my dog Wizard. She is an 18-week-old whippet, she is with me day in and day out, at work, home and on the bike. We took a short overnighter to the Gower in South Wales as our first trip. I wanted to keep the daily distance to around 40km as she is just getting used to the whole experience. See the ride here on my Strava and follow me there for more ride upd...
Dogpacking with Wizard. The start of my bikepacking adventures with my dog.

My first trip with wizard the whippet on a fully loaded test ride. I've been planning on going bikepacking with wizard before she even came home with us. It was the plan all along to get a dog that would come with me on my bike and today was the start of that adventure. Wizard will be coming bikepacking with me all over the UK and today was the first test.
Bikepacking Wales overnighter along the Strata Florida and Tywi Forest
Переглядів 1,5 тис.10 місяців тому
At short notice, with no work planned and a good weather forecast I mumbled to my wife that I was off on a quick bikepacking overnighter. She gave me that look and I was off, before she gave me that other look and I stayed home. I picked a route that I had been looking at that started only 1 hour's drive from my house. So I set off for Pontrhydfendigaid to start my trip on the Strata Florida an...
Bikepacking wales. Pembrokeshire coastline over two days in January
Переглядів 1,7 тис.11 місяців тому
This video documents the two day bicycle tour around the entire coast of Pembrokeshire (i missed a few bits, shushh!!) This was an epic trip with some stunning scenery and brutal sharp climbs around the coast. The Pembrokeshire coastline is basically one large national park getting to ride the whole length over two days really showed me how beautiful this area is. I took it easy on this ride, I...
80km wet ride to Strumble Head in Pembrokeshire
Переглядів 201Рік тому
I decided to go on a gentle ride to Strumble Head and back to Cardigan. Rain wasn't forecast and I wasn't best prepared but it's difficult to avoid getting get when riding in Wales. I should really know better and always be ready for rain. I have a larger route planned in the new year that takes in the whole Pembrokeshire Coast. Today ride was a little test ride. I wanted to take my time today ...

Why I Haven't Fallen In Love With Gravel, yet!
Переглядів 263Рік тому
I'm not sure if I like gravel riding. I didn't really enjoy this ride and I came home feeling quite flat. When usually any other time I ride I come home full of endorphins and feeling great. I'm pretty sure this is down to route selection and having the right bike for the right route. I need to spend more time creating routes or finding other people who have suitable routes in the area. I would...

128km bike ride to Britain's Smallest city - Cardigan to St David's
Переглядів 109Рік тому
A very hot training ride. 128km and 1900m of climbing on one of the hottest days of the year . In two weeks I am riding a 325km one day ride, today's goal was to try out some better fueling and better pacing. Attempting to keep it around zone 2. The one day ride is a charity ride. I am raising funds for a local children's charity called Jig So that provides families and children a safe place fo...
I failed at my first Audax ride, but it's another beautiful day to ride in West Wales
Переглядів 255Рік тому
A poor start to my audax endeavors. I was so disappointed to not get there is time to ride my first audax but there will always be others. For the rest of the week I had the usual great roads to ride in West Wales and had a few quick loops with the family around the outdoor Carmarthen velodrome. #cycling #westwales #wales #walescycling

4:05 truth! The number of people that I talk to because of Mira is huge. Wiz is having a great time 🤗💕🐕
Thanks for watching John and Mira. I've been following your guys through backpacking.com for a while now
Massive respect. That pain is all worth it
Very good short👍 I've been to few. Hope you get to a few more. This one is my list. Thanks for sharing👋
Thanks, I've been to a 4 now in Wales. Gonna post a few more shorts of tours. Looks like you had a few adventures in them too.
@@digdeepcycling Yes😁👍 Shorts can be good. They can travel far but also show what is coming on the longer video. I found your channel through shorts this morning👍
well done!
Well done, I can imagine how you were feeling at the end.Once when I was 15 I did about 200Km in a day going on a 6o mile ride with my friends CTC group which started 30 miles from my home.Took me days to recover.
Absolutely brilliant video my friend!! What an achievement. 🎉🎉
Sick 👍
Fair play great achievement.Good to hear what struggles you had to contend with
Brevet Cymru 400km, Bryan Chapman Memorial ride 600km or All Points North 1000km next year will get you ready for LEL. Well done, glad the weather held up for you. The mental fortitude you showed was epic. When I'm on longer rides I like some company to help keep me going.
I'm glad you said mostly on the road! Because the route I know from N to S Wales is 9000m of elevation, you certainly wouldn't have done this in a day! 😁 Well done though! ✌️
Impressive effort and appreciate you sharing the mental pain and how you overcame it. Kudos !
Great effort. I know what you mean about the crying. I did a hilly 100 miler in Cornwall which I soon found out I was not fully prepared for. I was pedalling squares. Just had to focus on the next pedal revolution.
Great adventure buddy! Iv subscribed to you
Give her a lot more time at shorter intervals to get her accustomed to it.
Put her on the front of your bike.
Hi mate love your videos with Wizard ive got a 4 month old boy called Winston how does Wizard get on with her harnesses and what size is it please. Thanks Rodders
Good video. Great use of the drone. Nice to see the dog travel with you 🚴👍
Cool just subbed
It’s better to place the dog at the front My dog hated bikes and any moving platform (bar luxury cars lol) and loves to ride in the basket at the front! Also to let the dog run and sniff a bit helps
It's working out quote well at the back now. We just retunred returned from an overnight trip and she was a start. She loved chasing me on the bike too.
Forgot his tent and his food
I wish I had a dog that would a)fit on/in a bike bag, b)would stay in said bike bag and c) not just fart all the time. The last one has nothing to do with your video but he's such a stinky old boy it just had to be said.
The box seems to be to high, dog can not see the way when laying down. Width and length looks plenty space. My dog love bike rides. Good lack
that makes sense. I'll try to fill it and raise the floor
Just wanted to thank you for your advice. I added a thick pillow and a few more blankets to raise her up. She was way happier and was able to lay down easily and still see the road etc. Cheers
take it easy at first its not about the miles its about the experience of bike packing. the dogs only young yet it will give her time to get into it. hope it all works out for you both. 👍♥
Thank you, it's working out well so far. We just retuned from an overnight trip and she handled it like a pro.
Wow, I've heard about cross country racing Whippet's. But taking a real dog one with you and trying to keep up with it is a first. Think you will need a battery soon LOL
Ha, she has some amazing speed when she needs it.
Very interesting,I'm thinking of getting a dog & doing the same .
It's doing bikpacking on hard mode, it's hard enough sometimes but so far it's very rewarding. Plus for me, I'm much better with the company of a dog than another person.
Great ride...you deserve a thumbs up and a comment for that effort 🚴💪
It's Pont-reed-ven-dig-ayed - easy.
Dude, having the correct gear is so important. Nowhere more so than the desert of Wales. I bought a few of those mini first aid kits and have one on each of my bikes. You don't have to think about it then. The extra clothes and sleep mat are mega important in Wales. I've known Strata to have a forecast of 8 degrees at night and wake up to frost and -2 temps. Add in the wind and hypothermia is just around the corner - never worth the risk. The bike looks like a great versatile setup.
Couldn't agree more! stupid to leave the first aid kit at home. The sleeping mat I left on purpose to try sleeping without it. I won't be trying that again
@@digdeepcycling You lose a fair chunk of body heat through the ground. It literally sucks the warmth out of you. Some good stuff to use is laminate flooring insulation underlay. It weighs bugger all and will repel water. I use it under my Alpkit Cloudbase all year round. It makes a huge difference. Personally, I would get back ache sleeping on it alone but it might work well for you.
Wow, that looked brutal in places. Those bogs are hard enough whilst walking. Enjoying your videos fella (although the music don't add much imho).
Thanks for watching Mark. The bogs are crazy hard but worth it. Yeah, choosing music is a difficult choice. I'm a big music fan but struggle to pick music that's generic, even though that's all that is needed. I'll try something less chaoticnext time.
Don't fret too much fella, some folks probably love it. I'm just a miserable old gippa 😂
Great video
Thanks for watching Peter
Great video Colin. That looked tough in places !! I've had some great rides in Wales over the last few years. It is a stunning place to ride.
Thank you Ian. Love every ride
Maan, that was worth every minute. Hat's off for the bog bashing and the grind. There's no two ways about there is no whinging once out there - you just gotta see the virtue in it all and crack on. All in all I imagine you got back buzzing and overjoyed. I've had the pleasure of the same bothy. Well, good going. Loved it. Mark
Thank you dude
@@digdeepcycling That's alright bro.
You've got the right bike anyway, shame about the light hey. Cracking route and fair play for doing it over two days 👍
Yeah the bike is perfect. It does a bit of everything. thanks for watching
I used to live a good 10 miles away from Castle Martin but could still hear the deep thud of major weapons being fired. Personally, I loved going to various viewpoints and watching tanks or jets firing at their targets...
That is something I'd love to see. I will have to make the trip on a live firing day just to see that. Thanks for watching
Sounds like you know that they publish that @@digdeepcycling ? You can find the info online.
couldn‘t resist the urge to be the 100th subscriber :)
ahhhhh, thank you. I had been refreshing a few times today hoping it would get to 100. Cheers
Thanks for all your effort and taking us along, such a beautiful country which we take for granted. Its a hidden gem and hopefully doesnt get trashed before I get to ride around there.
thanks for watching, it really is a gem.
Looks like a great place for a ride 👌
Stunning part of the world. Guaranteed a climb or two there.
Climbs are unavoidable. Nearly 1700m climbing in 80km. I'm now used to them, but still slow as #!$#
Moan moan moan ;)
hahaha, yeah just a little moany. I did enjoy it though, honestly.
riding a push iron is not my thing really love the hiking and wild camping and my van life, but love the video great editing great footage and a epic trip, i love all outdors stuff so i deffo subscribing
Push iron, ha. Thank you for subbing
Subscribed. Off to watch your other offerings. Well done, epic ride in tough conditions.
Thank you Ian. Happy to have you on board
Chapeau, tough conditions. Elan Valley is such a beautiful place to ride 😍
It really is! Will be going back more often. It's too close to ignore
Epic ride, especially with all that climbing. I did 204 miles last June, but with no where near as much climbing. However, i did it on one of the hottest days of early summer in 28 degree heat which was a big mistake. I averaged 17.1 mph, it took me 15 hours in total with all the breaks to try and cool down and get out of the sun. I can't imagine doing all that climbing.
Great ride, fantastic achievement. Actually planning to do this the other way next year - South > North
You mean you cycled south from north Wales ?
I have a gravel bike and I’m not sure why! When I’m offroad I’d like a mountain bike and when I’m on road I’d like a road bike. Perhaps for adventuring? Nope. I’d rather a short travel xc bike or hardtail. I fell for it the gravel thing. Jack of all trades I told myself. Master of none it turns out…!
Yup, totally agree. My "Gravel bike" it still my favourite road bike, not because it can do gravel but because the geometry is so comfortable for long distances. Keep it will large slicks on and keep the MTB for anything rough
Great effort, thanks for sharing, chapeau
Thank you for watching :)
Bloody hell, that is one hell of a ride, a fantastic achievement. Kudos sir.
Thank you. It was a hell of a ride. Worht it for the memories
Well done! I cycled NCN Route 8 recently over 6 days. Took it easy. Respect to you!
Route 8 really was beutiful. Need to go do that again one day
Myself and two pals did Prestatyn to Cardiff a few years ago. 301 kms in just under 12 hours. Great ride
12 hours!? Animals!!!
