Recently I completed a series of videos providing an introduction to JMRI, the Java Model Railroad Interface, including JMRI’s DecoderPro app, and JMRI throttles. This series included videos on how to download and install JMRI, customize and configure DecoderPro and JMRI throttles, use the WiThrottle and Engine Driver apps with JMRI and DCC-EX, use physical controllers with JMRI and DCC-EX, and manage rosters of our locomotives in JMRI. This series of videos has focused on JMRI’s DecoderPro app, and throttles for running our locomotives. We’ll look at the PanelPro app and turnout control in future videos.

What’s next?
In my next video, we’ll change tracks and take a break from talking about command stations and control software, and just look at running some trains, as I introduce you to my D-Saver switching puzzle app, and show you how to enjoy hours of switching operations on a tiny, 1’ x 6’ HO scale layout.
After that we’ll look at some additional hardware projects for DCC-EX, such as adding a second LCD and an OLED display, and assembling an EX-FastClock. We’ll also look at some ways to modify the EX-CommandStation software, as well as explore more DCC-EX automations in EX-Rail.
There’s lots more to come, so don’t get sleepy at the throttle. Until then…
