Hi!! Heather here, reader and collector of illustrated classics and modern classics! Join me as I explore the classics and their illustrators, with glimpses of life in Maine through my intros and outros! Home of "Read-a-book-by-the-decade" and "Illustrator Explores". Some travel/author site vlogs here and there. Welcome Readers!
Ten Plot Types and my FAVORITE BOOKS in Each!💗 An Introduction.
Good morning Friends!
I wanted to introduce myself and my channel from a book perspective, so today I am chatting about Christopher Booker's Seven Basic Story or Book Plots, and the books in each that changed my life! I have also added three more story plots to the list because there were book titles, I wanted to mention that more accurately fit other plot types. I begin the chat with an introduction to my channel, website and... me!
I hope you enjoy it! I will be back soon with another video.

My First Video! Children's Illustrated Classics by-the-decade!
This video was such a delight!!
Thank you Miriam! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!! Have a lovely Thanksgiving (if you celebrate)!💕
Great Video! I enjoyed hearing how your channel started. I think my favorite plot type is "rebirth", but I'm having a hard time thinking of which book is my favorite in that plot type. I'm a huge fan of 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman. Have a great Thanksgiving!!
Thank you! I bought that book for my husband one year and he loves it and now collects editions of it! Have a great Thanksgiving!!🦃
A delightful video, Heather! Happy Thanksgiving as you travel to be with family. 🦃
Thank you so much Hanna! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!🦃🧡!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Loved this video! 💕
Thank you!!
Hello! I was always too chicken to read Call of the Wild and White Fang as I just love animals 😊. I also just think that your edition of the Hobbit is really beautiful. My dad was a headmaster and so I grew up surrounded by books, he always had his head in one and so I copied him and became a genuine book worm 😅. Your wonderful videos remind me so much of my idyllic childhood and it's also a really enjoyable introduction to wonderful illustrators.❤
Hi Punita! I think I felt the same! I still have not read Call of the Wild. I share your love for animals and the expectation of having to read a book that might have a little animal cruelty is so off-putting! But I found White Fang rather worth it. Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment to wake up to in the morning!! 💕
That was wonderful, thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for watching and giving it a comment!!!! Have a lovely evening!
thanks, you too!
I love this video! It's so nice to get to know the background of how and why you started making book videos. Your channel is always such a warm and welcoming place to visit. 🤗💜 I hope you and your family have a lovely Thanksgiving!
Jessica I am so glad to hear that!!! Thank you so much for saying so!! Lovely message to get when I wake up in the morning💕! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving too!🦃
Oh, HOW I enjoyed this video! Can you believe I've never read White Fang? 😮😵💫 Also, I LOVE the Macy's Day Parade! I jump up and down when I see Santa! It almost brings tears to my eyes to see him while my family looks on like I've lost my mind! 😅 Thank you for yet another wonderful video!
Hello! Im so happy you enjoyed it!!! Well I only read White Fang a couple of years ago for the first time, and I really need to get Call of the Wild under my belt-I hear it’s even better! I’m so glad there is someone else out there who enjoys the Santa on the float! It’s the best!!! Have a lovely Thanksgiving 🦃🧡🍂
Oh and THANK YOU so much for always commenting such an uplifting message!!
@@WaterBearReads you too!💞
I always wondered where your channel name came from...now I know!😊
I know LOL! I really should have explained it earlier!!!🥰
I loved your description of White Fang. I once told a student teacher I was training to continue reading a section of a book to our students because I couldn’t get through it without crying. I later told our students, “That’s how you know a book is written well -it stirs your emotions to the core.”
Thank you! 🧡Which book was it that you were training to get through? Was it Charlotte’s Web? That’s another one I struggle with!
Good morning, Heather. That’s a beautiful coffee cup, and I’m wondering if you prepare your coffee as I do-almost as much cream/milk as coffee?!! It’s so much fun to get to know you better in this video! What a gorgeous copy of The Great Gatsby. I may need to revisit that in the next year or so. I’ve never read The Thorn Birds. I would also like to reread White Fang. So fascinating that you spent time in South Africa! Would love to have a conversation with you about this, sometime. Nkosi Sikelel' I Afrika! (Is that correct?) I agree about Dumas and hope to read more French Classics next year! Have a great weekend. 😊
Hi Celeste! Thank you…I purchased that mug last year on my trip to Concord! I will write more in reply later…we are driving down to NYC right now…so will be in your state for a few days!
@@WaterBearReads Have fun!
Hi again! Yes! I take no sugar but lots of cream but it must still be hot! I love that Beehive Books version! It was a birthday gift from James a couple of years back I think. Ha ha I love your Sotho! I plan to read Dumas Nutcracker next month, but I wouldnt mind reading others next year as well!
@@WaterBearReads Exactly! Lots of cream but hot. I think I must warm up my coffee at least 4 times while drinking. : ) By the way, loved the back-story of how you and James met. Have a great time!
@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 ha ha I do the same!!

Love this! We just finished collecting the entire series. My daughter finished reading all of them and I love that she enjoyed them too!
She read all of them!! Wow! Amazing!!!! Does she have a favorite? Thank you so much for watching!

I love the Mystery at Lilac Inn and Red Gate Farm!

What a beautiful,perfect video✨💖
What a beautiful perfect comment! Thank you so much!!!💕 I am so happy that you enjoyed it!
A lovely collection of beautiful Nancy Drews! And I love the marginalia you shared, which makes the books even more special! 😊
Thank you Celeste! Yes I thought that made it so special! Many had names and ages in them too!
I have quite a few Nancy drews but they are mostly new and my favourite is Password to larkspur lane probably because that was the first one I read as a girl! I am rereading them as well😊.I collect the Hardy boys also and the Bobbsey twins. Lovely seeing the trees and the lake👍♥️
Hi Punita! I also have some Hardy Boys and regret not showing them in this video! I have been saving them to read with my son. I also collect The Bobbsey Twins! You and I are like bookish soulmates ha ha!!! Thank you so much for saying so about the trees and the lake. I often wonder if I should just focus on sit-down chats and stop worrying about adding B-roll (the extra stuff). It's just that I love how light falls on things and have this desire to capture it! Especially those yellows! Have a lovely rest of your weekend and thank you so much for the comment and watching!!!🍁🍂💕💕💕

Hi Teresa....well then you are right where I am! I am a few chapters into #3. Your reading project sounds fun!
❤❤❤
Thank you! 💕💕💕
I have a special fondness for my Nancy Drew collection because I got them as hand-me-downs from my older sisters. I don't have all of them so I'm always on the hunt. I love seeing other people's finds! 💜
Hi Jessica! I am so glad you enjoyed seeing my collection! Do you have number 5? I need to get that one next! Have a lovely day!💕
@@WaterBearReads I don't have #5 but I checked on Goodreads to see which one that is and the cover looks so familiar. I must have read it as a library book when I was little. I forgot to mention in my first comment that your painting with the ghosts added is so cute! What a great idea!! 👻I hope you have a Happy Halloween! 🎃
@@jessicaw1839 Ha ha thank you! My ghosts ended up looking like the "Pac-man" ghosts. I was trying to make them look like those elegant ghosts you see in the Tik-Tok ghost thrift paintings! I need to watch some "how to" videos for next year!
@@jessicaw1839 Oh and Have a Happy Halloween too!
Good Morning, Heather ❣️ My oldest has a huge collection of Nancy, but I’m not sure how old they are. She loved them as an 11 year old and was given quite a few that year for birthday and Christmas. I’m having home brewed wassail this morning
I saw your IG story picture! Looks good! Good Morning!!!💕
Loved Nancy Drew growing up! I collect old versions now but actually have not read a Nancy Drew as an adult (just so many books in the world that need reading!). I’m hoping my kids fall in love with them!
The second one was actually surprisingly riveting and scary when I read it as an adult! I know what you mean when you say "so many books in the world that need reading" though! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!💕
I LOVE Nancy Drew! I completed my collection about a year or two ago, but I collected only the classic 56. I have #64 Captive Witness, which inspired the computer game The Captive Curse, but it has a different style compared to the first 56. I collected some of the editions you have, but most are the newer, glossy cover versions; I just collected wtv I could 😊 Also! Since you're reading the books, I recommend the podcast It's a Clue with sisters Kelly and Karen. They're up to book 51, I believe. They talk about the books and include research/history when possible and are just fun to listen to.
I wonder...do they ever mention the illustrators of the interiors? I will check them out. I had a time finding out who illustrated the inside pictures! In the end I just said "uncredited". But I want to know! Thank you so much for telling me about that podcast! Also that is so interesting about 'The Captive Curse'. I want to find out more about it now. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!💞💞
Good morning!☕ I hope you all enjoy this short addition to last week's book haul video! Let me know below if you have a favorite Nancy Drew or if, like me, you are rereading them and can't remember enough to have a favorite yet! (Although I think I remember "the Whispering Statue" as being a favorite!) Have a lovely rest of your day! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I love ur channel! Grows my tbr!😊
Hi Teresa! Thank you so much for that! Such a nice way to start out a morning! Have a lovely day!💕
Wonderful books as usual 😊, such a great watch! I too love owls, Fern hollow was gorgeous 👍. I am a fan of the Brambly Hedge series and E. Nesbit. I have such a love for illustrated classics, automatic buy for me😅. I have the same everyman edition of little women! Simply adore the luxury books, and the Washington Irving. Thanks so very much for this video!!!❤. Love your blog content as well. I just got myself a lovely illustrated edition of snow white and rose read done by Kelly Vivanco. A real treat for me😊.
I also have the arcturus hardback of Peter pan, the Arthur Rackham, Gwynedd Hudson and FD Bedford ones.
Hi Punita! Apologies for the delay in reply! Wow you have some gorgeous books!!! I have also been wanting to get the Brambly Hedge series! E. Nesbit is also a favorite. We read her "The Railway Children" not too long ago, as well as 5 Children and It. Oh and yes Washington Irving is a real favorite!!! I loved his The Tales of the Alhambra! Have you read it? I looked up your Snow White and Rose Red by Kelly Vivanco- what a gorgeous book! I will have to put that on my list to get as well! Thank you as always for watching my videos and for the positive comments! Have a lovely day!💓

@@WaterBearReadsI know the feeling! I have lots of gardening friends that I can chat seeds and flowers with and some friends that read but mostly they all read new popular books. @@voggs3072 Its so funny you say that because just the other day I was thinking that I should add some new releases (adult) in my discussions - I was kind of thinking maybe one per season, (and listen to them as audio books since few are illustrated)! Ha ha!!! I am glad that you are enjoying the books! I plan to start reading it as soon as I finish Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I can't wait to read more of it as well! Have a lovely rest of your weekend!🧡
Enjoyed your video. I ordered a couple of your suggestions: the Misty book and The Seasons in Fern Hollow. Thanks Heather. Keep up the good work!
Hi!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I hope you enjoy both books. I honestly thought Aladdin was done with those style of books because I had not seen any come out in a couple of years or more. So when I saw "Misty", I was rather excited!!! Its a sweet little book! And I plan to get more of those Fern Hollow books. I hope you enjoy "Seasons". Just lovely! Have a relaxing rest of your weekend!!🎃
Wonders as always. Reading Frankenstein would love the copy you showed 😃
Are you close to a Barnes & Nobles? It was one of those editions that they have on display that are super inexpensive....around $10-$15 I think. I forgot exactly how much I paid for it but it was rather inexpensive. I left a link in my description (that one is not an affiliated link) if you wanted to see it easily. I am so glad you liked the video and thank you so much Zena for your lovely comments. They really make my day!🎃🧡🎃
You make our day! Will check out here in uk xx
We loooove that Trina Schart Hyman Little Red Riding Hood! 🥰🥰🥰 So many lovely books! I loved reading Kiki’s Delivery Service in September.
Hi Amy! Isn't it just adorable? Kiki's Delivery Service was just delightful! Thank you so much for watching and for commenting!!🎃🧡
Hi again, I just loved every minute of this video as usual. I wanted to tell you that for Victober I read a lovely Barnes &Noble edition of Frankenstein, not the one you showed though. I enjoyed it and thought it read like a fairytale. Also I read and loved The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It really ramps up towards the end, and I bet you will love it as I did. I just started Dr. Thorne by Trollope as well. I have some scary short stories by Dickens and some Sherlock Holmes that I might not get to. ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Hi Cassandra! Who illustrated the version of Frankenstein you read? I wonder which one it is. There are so many great versions out there that I feel that Frankenstein will end up being one of those that I have several versions of. Thank you so much for the lovely comment about my videos! The positive feedback is what keeps it alive for me! I have a Dr. Thorne that I have been meaning to get to! I picked it up in the UK a couple of years back and still need to read it! 🎃🧡🎃
I’ve read Diamond in the Window! I enjoyed it immensely.
Did you read it as a child or as an adult? I feel that, had I read it as a kid, it would have been one of those that really stayed with me. It's so magical!
@@WaterBearReads I was an adult, but I was reading it to see if it was something my kids would want to read - they did (at least my girls did).
@@novelideea oh that is fantastic!
Julia Sarda’s, maybe I have already told you this, “sweep” is one my grandchildren ask me to read them on repeat. ♥️
'Sweep' is a huge favorite of ours as well! We never owned it, always loaned it from the library, but its one I need to add! My son has hit that age where we are buying more middle-grade than picture books now, but I think I will always get a picture book here and there just to absorb illustrations and the wise stories!
@@WaterBearReads I do that regularly. I can’t pass up looking through the children’s section wherever I am 🤗
@@novelideea We share that habit!
I adore badgers, & every time I see illustrations of them I really want the books 🫣
I have exactly that issue as well! Did you see the carved pumpkin at the end? It's a badger face🧡
I have TSH’s Red Riding Hood!
That is so cool! Is it the new edition or a vintage copy?
@@WaterBearReads it’s an older copy because I’ve had it since my kids were little ♥️
@@novelideea Those are the best!!!
