It was an excellent choice for the character of Newt because it gives him an added dimension. *We* know why he's socially awkward and has such a specific interest, but back in the 1920's he would have been misdiagnosed, or at least labelled "eccentric" by the muggle medical establishment. But he's all there. He's not "broken" or "ill", he's merely different. He knows it too, and he does try to overcome it when he needs to. For example, seeing his normally strong "hugger" of brother hurting over the death of Leta, it's Newt who initiates a hug. It's not his normal preference, but he can tell that Theseus needs it and Newt is a caregiver by nature.

I have aspergers and really relate to Newts character, he's powerfully just and empathic, he knows well right from wrong and is the very antithesis of the light side, and he's just awkward which makes his power more unbelievably remarkable. I've made a character in hogwarts legacy that somewhat looks like him. I also made one look like Tom Felton not so much draco malfoy & he's in slytherin and I've unlocked all the dark magic on that one.
