Beautiful and well kept.
AM I IN HEAVEN? This is where I grew up & I remember it so well & miss it so much.....Bastard Politicians ruined BRITAIN in less than fifty years! Corrupt Bastard Politicians, Like the bastards now!
Those were the days my, we wished they would never end.
It was a better and happier place then, than it is now.😮
The Uk government and local councils over decades have failed this once proserous town and the city of Stoke. If you visit similar cities around the country (Sheffield for example) they've had huge investment, which attracts retail and business. Its the job of our local MPs to get money from central government to regenerate, and our MPs are happy clapping gaining 20m which doesn't even paper over the cracks.
To be honest, I know people always say things were better back then....but they were..
I loved growing up in 70s castle
Progress - really?
Wow, proto-techno! Reminds me and my friends on speed, during my mid 90s ”rave”-period.
8:07 Seeing this row of buildings under construction is so odd given that they're just about to be demolished
Quality shops back in the sixties, must be about 1961/62, minis and PMT Atlanteans but no mk 1 Cortinas, but a mk 2 sprite/ midget. The travesty was knocking down the old municipal hall, even it's replacement civic offices have gone now. Vape shops, charity shops and phone fix shops, that's what it's become. Blockleys, the co op, Mandley and unett, Pauldens, Bickleys, Collins, Henry White, Clement Wain, the list of high quality shops was never ending, but it's a familiar story in many towns. The likes of Chester and Shrewsbury are still worth a visit. The main hit to Newcastle and S O T is the local industrial decline, the pits, the Michelin, Shelton bar steel works, Doulton and Wedgwood group factories, no jobs except call centres and Warehouses, progress indeed.
Omg I miss it so simple 😢
Anyone remember a pub here called 'The Pineapple'?
It's great that there is this footage available to see not just for us to remember time's gone by but for other generations
Wonderful. That was like a time machine. I was born there in 1960. Does anyone remember the Tudor Rose Shoppe in The Ironmarket?
What kind of shop was it? I don't remember it and 5 years older than you. :)
@@scoppio07 I only remember it being closed. It was very old. There was a apparently a murder committed there, my Aunty told me. It was accross the road from the George and Dragon pub.
@@davethursfield9283 OK, Dave - thank you
What an extraordinary film. I was born in May Bank in 1960 and remember nearly everything shown here except the railway. The municipal hall was a sad loss. I have been living in Malta for 15 years now. The last time I went back was 2018 and it was quite sad to see the state of the town. I gather most of the shops are closed now. The Council has a lot to answer for.
Did you go to St Wulstan's?
@@scoppio07 No. St. Margaret's in Wolstanton.
@@davethursfield9283 Is that school still there do you know? The big church is, of course.
It’s a shit-hole nowadays
We need our town back
Thanks for posting this video....as a young boy I worked on the market and have such fond memories of Newcastle
Basically nothing changed
Wow this has brought back memories. Thank you so much!
The best days are behind us
Very true😢
Nice video with a retro 8mm look! Assuming it was filmed on a phone, what app do you use? Cheers
Hi, yes, its a free one called 8mm vintage camera
Great Video...thriving then...seems a bit empty and unloved now!
many are
A beautiful town, spoiled by The Tip at Wallys Quarry and poor decisions made.
This scene has been one of the most funny and surrealistic experiences of my life
The 6os and some of this is cctv ,also thanks Goverment for looking after us 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant. Many thanks for uploading this 👍 Look forward to showing it to my elderly Mum....I'm sure it will bring back some happy memories for her
Pity there were no shots of the station and goods yard I loved it there, but otherwise a breath of my childhood.
Shit hole then shit hole now
Silly.
Video inquietante, brano eccezionale. Il regista Federico Fellini, intruso fra le donne
I loved this town, and still do ,many many happy memories. A long way from it now. Hope some old pals still remember. God bless you all.
When did you leave?
I can remember way back when the ring road was being built. I also remember shops like Tikos and Halfords. I bought a Raleight Bomber bike from there back in 1983. It cost a hundred pounds which would be about 350 pounds in todays money!
Thanks for this, as someone born in this century, all I know is the modern Newcastle. Seems like back then there was much more of a town feel to it, like it was it’s own place and not just a few shops outside of Stoke.
Oh wow great footage of Castle.i bemoan the demolition of theold Municipal Hall and what do we have now a glass cage.but Newcwastle still is a old and ancient Borough have a walk through the town see the buildings .come on you council leaders please do not let this lovley old town fall or let it fail . Be proud of your heritage .if you care for nNewcastle take care of it .if you cannot you are not deserving to call yourself a true citisen of this wonderfull town.
Lived in Cross heath since I was born late 80s always down castle growing up..! Good memories Castle has changed from the 60s was good in the 2000s gone downhill since 2010s
Newcastle’s been vile for years. All the shops (rubbish ones too) are all shut, the good ones are all long gone. The only thing I go to is the cinema.
I love seeing what Newcastle used to look like, it's such a shame that it's a ghost town now
Thanks for posting this👍The sixties was a time for architectural vandalism. It's heartbreaking to see how beautiful the Municipal Hall was inside and out. How was this allowed!!
What a lovely town it used to be, really makes me sad to see what remains. The council should be appalled with what they've allowed to happen.
The music is terrifying.
You're right, it's strangely ominous.
Yeah, the music is coming to get you.
You would expect things to get better with the passage of time but this is not the case in this borough.
Not the case at all in England.
60 years down the line and nothing has changed. Same old buildings, same housing, same roads and same infrastructure except a few supermarket stores and the automobile sector. What has the council done and developed in last 60 years?
Trust me it's VERY VERY different
@@staciharrington-parker9938 i’m sure it is but i just mean to say there’s no modern development. Modern infrastructure is terribly missing in stoke and newcastle.
While I agree to a certain point I cannot agree to putting new modern buildings up i think the new council building is awful. Yes build but let it be in keeping with the architecture we have. Newcastle can be a thriving town again you don't need a glass house to make it so. I
Brilliant. Thanks for posting this. Many happy memories of Castle back in the sixties. I'm sure most people watching this will feel - Where did the time go ??? ⏳⌛
Mental
Smashing video...Thank you so much for the upload.
My Nan lived on Hanover St, just up from Newcastle Library on Bath at.
Good shot of The Stones, market
My dad worked at an uphostlers down an alley by the Victorian covered bus stop. In the film. I worked at S J Mott, photography shop across the Dr later about 1966
