SUMMARY: The lecture begins by outlining the course plan, which includes exploring the worldview, operational principles, and goals of capitalism, as well as the theory of property, ownership in Islam, and an in-depth discussion on riba (usury). The aim is to provide a deeper understanding of capitalism and highlight the areas where it differs from Islamic economics. The lecture then delves into the basic terms and components of economic systems. Economics is defined as the study of production, distribution, and consumption of goods. An economic system is a structured framework that aims to utilize limited resources to meet the needs of people. Capitalism, as the dominant economic system, has different understandings of human needs and relies on the market and private enterprise for resource allocation. The lecture introduces the concept of capital, which includes physical capital (e.g., buildings, machinery), financial capital (e.g., money), and human capital (labor). These components, along with entrepreneurship, form the factors of production. Capitalism is defined as an economic system dedicated to production for profit and the accumulation of value by private businesses. It emphasizes the profit motive and private ownership of the means of production. The lecture explains that economic systems must answer three fundamental questions: what goods to produce, how to produce them, and how to distribute them. These questions are addressed by the worldview, goals, and strategies of each economic system. Capitalism relies on the market forces and the invisible hand (supply and demand) for resource allocation. Socialism, on the other hand, favors central planning and the visible hand (government intervention). The lecture then focuses on the Enlightenment movement and its influence on the worldview of capitalism. It discusses the Reformation, which led to the split between Protestantism and Catholicism, and the subsequent sectarian wars. The Enlightenment thinkers challenged religious traditions and emphasized reason and scientific inquiry to answer questions about reality, knowledge, and ethics. They questioned the authority of the church, engaged in conflicts with scientists, and advocated for materialism and utilitarianism. The Enlightenment worldview rejected religion as the basis for organizing society, replacing it with self-interest, materialism, and the pursuit of pleasure. Utilitarianism, which prioritizes maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain, became a dominant ethical framework. This worldview, rooted in the rejection of God and religion, influenced the emergence of capitalism. The lecture concludes by noting how the Enlightenment's rejection of religion and the adoption of materialism and utilitarianism shaped the worldview of capitalism. Adam Smith's ideas on self-interest and the market mechanism, which align with Enlightenment ideals, continue to have significant influence in contemporary Western thought.

It is really mind boggling to talk about the methodology being an Ijtihad matter but escaping away from proving that with the evidence. Although, there is no disagreement about its being an ijtihadi matter, but it needs to be proven with shari proof. It is laughing to see how this brother brings to defend his pointless opinion with the opinion of a scholar than with the eveidence from the sharah. This superficial art of debating about a shari matter is really unfortunate and a sign of declined thiking. Second, this brother downplays the role of politics and does not have an understanding of the anatomy of politics, that is, that how political system as an engine generates life in whole body of society; and that is evident from the reality, commonsense, human history and the poltical thought of all the ages, that it is the political system which supervises and effects all the affairs of society interms of education, poverty, illiteracy, technology, health and other affairs. The most laughing part of this talk is a nation state khilafah. It is more than childish to talk about a Khilafah with that of Nation States being there with that of Ummah being divided. It is both laughing and weaping. Laughing because Khilafah is a state of Ummah which doesn't recognise the European Nation State model, instead it is a clearer antithesis to that, and weaping beause it condtracts and brushes away whole source of shari. Ps: I didn’t expect such a pointless and weak argument from a person who lectures on the World View of Islam. Rather, it is urgently suggested to get lectured on!!

      1. Brother, it is very clear from your comment that you have not understood the point Shaykh wants to make. This is a snippet from a Q&A session for common masses not an intellectual engagement with "Islamic Political Theory". Shaykh has covered that in the Islamic Worldview course in many sessions discussing all the main important political thinkers. 2. From your words, I can clearly see your delusion/arrogance and ignorance about the Shar'i sciences. It may be because you belong to a particular group which has blinded you from understanding matters profoundly. You seem to lack even basic common sense in asking for evidences in a small snippet for common Muslims. 3. As for your ignorance, it is very evident. For example you claim that the "methodology of establishing Khilafah" is an Ijtihadi matter with (Agreement)! and still ask for Shar'i proof. Isnt "Agreement" a sufficient Shar'i proof. And you also seem to be ignorant about the term "Ijtihadi" itself. You should study the detailed meanings of the principle: "Ijtihad is valid in Dhanni matters" before using these terms loosely in your discussion. 4. I do not see the Shaykh downplaying the role of politics. I have attended his Worldview sessions about Political Theory. What he has regularly emphasized is that "Politics" is important but it is only a component of "Islamic Civilization". The revival of Islam does not mean the change in political conditions of the Ummah only. Restricting change or revival to the political sphere only is reductionist thinking and and influence of Western modernity. This is very clear from his discussions. 5. "it is the political system which supervises and affects all the affairs of society in terms of education, poverty, illiteracy, technology, health, and other affairs". This is true, but the Political System governs these affairs and does not necessitate the thought process and philosophical theorization in these fields. You surely have no understanding of the "Western Fragmentation" in knowledge and "Specialization" as a Western construct and also the "comprehensive meaning" of the term Siyasah itself in the texts and the usage of the early Islamic political theorists. Unless we perpetually "theorize" according to our worldview and update ourselves in all fields of knowledge including Education, Technology, etc. Ummah will never rise. 6. As for the nation-state, I do not see the Shaykh justifying it neither in this snippet nor elsewhere. You should laugh and weep at your poor understanding instead. Here also you don't seem to grasp the difference between the Waqi' (reality), application of the texts, and Fiqh of Marahil (stages). Nation-State is not necessitated by Islam but we are living and experiencing it. It is alien to Islamic Political Thought. However, it does not mean that we should stop thinking about how to engage with it and guide Muslims in this difficult marhalah. The idea that Islam can only be actualized to its utmost potential in political dominance, is wrong. Islam is vibrant for all ages, times and marahil (stages). We must learn to engage with the reality and take the best out of it even in times of weakness. Some great political theorists like al-Imam al-Juwayni understood this very early. in his masterpiece: al-Giyathi, he theorized for the times when political dominance ceases to exist. He even imagined a time when the foundations of Islam will cease to exist and here you are not ready to engage with a reality that may be alien to Islam but affects us all. 7. It has been rightly said: (If an ignorant person adopts silence, differences will cease to exist). Think before you write and elevate your thinking patterns a bit. wa al-salam

Assalamualykum brothers The temple was destroyed twice, thats both you times. Corruption wise Zakariah (AS) & Yahya(AS) are father and son, they can not be the cause for both corruptions as there is a ~500 years difference between both temple destructions. And to the brother asking questions at the end, Allah says if you return to corruption then the punishment will return. That should be more than enough for Muslims. In reference to the Jews never committing killings to this extent please look into Jewish Bolshivism revolution in Russia and Holodomor. There is so much you do not know about the corruption they have committed. Anyway Sunnah of Allah doesnt change. Falsehood will perish, corruption will be end and the truth will remain. Wasalam

Respected Shoyab shb , you are making Nation state a Devine reality and are making it a source of thinking. By the way what is the utopian khilafa either it is khilafa or not Khilafah. And what are the middle stages , are they justified by the evidences like are you justifying the nation state status and you declaring as not being a political thinker but still commenting and making a judgment on the political discourse . It would have been better infact great if you stick to ur expertise of evidences from quran and sunnah. But when you talk about political solutions by giving an analogy with some weak and general premises it makes your stature on a weak turf...
