    Thought the Wolfman with Del Torrio was way UNDERATED! That makeup job back in 2010 scared the shit out of me. They could really really make a badass Wolfman today in 2025. Redoing Creature From The Black Lagoon too. They cant mess up movies about these classic monsters - could make them look so realistic today.

  • @paulwhittemore4309
    @paulwhittemore4309 20 днів тому

    Elphaba being treated differently for her skin color is an obvious racial metaphor and a major plot point. An actual woman of color in the role is going to add layers of lived-in experience that might not otherwise be there if it were played by someone else. I think it's a brilliant casting choice.

    • @jsdemonaco
      @jsdemonaco 19 днів тому

      I agree, in its 20+ year history on Broadway, they have never cast a woman of color in this role, which is about a woman persecuted for the color of her skin. Kind of criminal.

    Elphaba being played by a person with a darker skin color doesn't really matter since visually she's green, and she's still green in this. Ariel however is a different story. People grew up knowing what Ariel looks like, of course people are gonna react differently if the new one doesn't have the visual cues of the animated one. I'll be seeing this movie first day when it releases because this already looks and sounds amazing, even if I only know the songs from the musical.

    I think, as people walk into this saying “I’m not sold on Ariana” was never and will never be satisfied that she got chose. Which is a valid opinion no one can exactly argue with but I think with the main actors of the original and people behind production involving her and not only that but working heavy with acting coaches for the film - there’s no doubt in my mind she’ll do bad. she’s actually going to do phenomenal

    • @aurora_kosmik
      @aurora_kosmik 19 днів тому

      I disagree with this sentiment because I think on the opposite hand a lot of people are turning a blind eye to her inexperience as an actress because "Omg it's Ariana Grande!". while she is working hard for the the role and is a very talented singer, this is her first serious film role and her first adult musical role. Up until now she had done comedy children's tv, children's musical roles, and a few cameo tv roles where she played herself. Going from that to a leading role in not only a film but a musical film is HUGE leap for anyone. Children's role standard and tv standards are different from film which is why so many actors struggle making that transfer. While we will not know until we see the whole movie - to me the trailer is supposed to highlight the best moments, and whenever I see Arianna talk it very much feels like she is struggling to remain consistent with her character. In some moments it feels like she is in a tug of war between trying to replicate Christian Chenoweth's southern bell take on Glinda and playing herself. So far I think her best moments are when she is able to feed off of the other actor's energy. It's not terrible, but when you put that level of experience in a main role playing opposite of far more experienced team - it really emphasizes her skill gap. While a different opinion is totally valid, I think it is important to understand that she was largely chosen for the purposes of marketing thanks to her pop star career. If it was purely based on her acting career, at her experience / skill level, she likely would have been cast as a side character. Even with training and help, work experience is just not something you pick up on the fly. Just like any job it takes months and even year to prefect those skills. While yes there are people who just don't like her and never will, I think there are some very legitimate concerns and personally I wish she had more film experience before stepping into a lead role.

    • @whytryjay
      @whytryjay 19 днів тому

      @@aurora_kosmik you - proved my point though. People will never and was never going to be satisfied for the reasons you listed without even given a chance. but again she’s done broadway and other things apart from music which motivated her to better the craft of acting. Was it Meryl Streep kind of roles. Nah but doing comedy etc doesn’t make it any less of a skill. Also I’ll have to disagree with the whole waiting to get into a huge leading role thing though. Especially for this one where she learned Galinda down before even auditioning. Kristen Chenoweth herself has been mentoring Ariana since she was like 10. And if you watch other reactions, majority of them say she channels Glinda quite well. I mean everything revolving the film prior to this release has gone on for 2 years. So yeah as I mentioned before, production and casting clearly thought she would be a great addition to the film for her to be picked. So that leads me back to if people aren’t thrilled with her just generally being picked they’re not going to and have to settle for what it is. Also thinking Wicked of all things would need a popstars marketing,,,,, you’re a little lost in the sauce on that one. The film would’ve been huge just based off the story and broadway show.

    • @aurora_kosmik
      @aurora_kosmik 19 днів тому

      @@whytryjay And you've also proved my point by over inflating her broadway experience. Her Broadway role wasn't a meryl streep level role because she was 8. It has been 23 year since she was on Broadway, and even then it was for a handful of months. Not to mention, again, the level of skill to play Annie is not the same level of acting skill to play Glinda This is because there is a lot less competition for children's roles vs adults roles. It's still hard to get in (do not misunderstand me), but for a kid to participate in a musical they need a guardian who has the freedom to be able to support that career. due to that there are a lot less options. It is also why few child actors make it in the industry as adults. If she had years of experience, or was even still active on Broadway, maybe you could use that defense but shes not. It's kind of like having a summer job in a pizzeria as a teen and then claiming cause you made pizzas you're now an experienced chef. By acting standards, she is very green. If she was not Ariana, people would not give her the same grace and no one would bring up that experience. Also, in terms of advertising, it doesn't matter what I think - that is the reality of the industry right now. Anyone in entertainment can confirm that Hollywood does everything it can to make as much money as possible and guarantee a success. One way they do that is by hiring popular celebrities to fill as many roles as possible - regardless of their experience. While wicked is a popular musical, they do not generally do as well in the main stream and are a niche genre. Even voice acting exclusive roles these days often pick celebs over skilled vas. For, example in the sonic movies they replace Roger Craig Smith because he is not a well known name and would not get the same level of attention as Ben Schwartzs. Just about everything in hollywood these days is a calculated risk - Ariana has mainstream appeal and even if people don't like musicals it is undeniable that her fans will see the movie just because she is in it. While wicked might do well on it's own you can not say that Arianna's platform is not going to boost the movie's performance. You're saying people are not giving her a chance, and in some cases that is true, but you can not say that you are not being generous to her. If she was not Arianna Grande people would be far more critical of her performance.

    • @whytryjay
      @whytryjay 19 днів тому

      @@aurora_kosmik This is dumb bc you’ve confirmed everything I said in my initial post. so what are you getting at??? Mind you the last time she was on broadway was 13/14 before continuing on with music mainly. And I didn’t ‘overestimate’ her broadway experience but I’m not gonna sit here and act like it doesn’t matter bc she was ‘a child’ being a theatre kid/ theatre nerd doesn’t just go away bc its not being focused on. Some are more advanced than others of course but doesn’t mean the skill can’t improve over time outside of the limelight. I think you’re feeling too highly on your opinion being a regular citizen not knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. And you’re definitely wrong about Ariana being used for her platform. You’re showing more and more that you don’t care for her or the work she does and just like giving shit opinions in hopes people will agree with you. Wicked being adapted in a movie has been highly anticipated before hand. The broadway production has been doing good far long without her. Also the statement of “If she wasn’t Ariana” is contradictory bc the main focus at hand was everyone being critical and “not seeing it” with her being Galinda. Lol so I’m not even gonna reply back after because I’m standing 10 toes on what I said. And I’ll repeat it again…. Those saying they don’t see it for Ariana being Galinda was never going to and won’t change their mind on it. Good day.

    • @aurora_kosmik
      @aurora_kosmik 19 днів тому

      @@whytryjay No I didn't but clearly you do not care about the evidence I am providing. To make it clear - I'm getting at they have a reason to never see her as Glinda. Being a theater nerd doesn't make you a good actor - it just means you like theatre. Doing theatre as a child does not equate to the same level of kills as an adult because the bar to get into theatre as a kid is based upon availability of the actor and not always the skills of the kid. Lots of theatre nerds are god awful at acting. Acting is like any career, you need active experience and constant coaching to keep your skills up to snuff - other wise you fall rusty and lose those skills. She might love theatre but there is a reason she chose to focus on singing - and that is because that's what she is good at. And yes my apologies she also had a short role at the age of 15 in 13 the musical as cheerleader named charlotte (a side character in an all children production).. The reason she chose to focus on singing cause she major weaknesses that prevented her from continuing with musicals, one of which being a god awful dancer. Here is an example: ua-cam.com/video/UpbgjDWuih8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RadioOneIntConsidering dancing is a HUGE part of musicals that is a big problem. The closest recent experience she has doing theatre was being in hair spray live, ( another example of her inability to dance) which was littered in stunt casting as well. Ariana got the chance to be Glinda ONLY because she is pop star Ariana Grande not because she is good. If she walked into a audition with her acting resume and was not a pop star - she would not be playing Glinda. That is why people won't accept her - watering it down to "well people will just never like her" over looks all the reason WHY they will never like her and overlooks major issues with stunt casting in the modern industry.

    Just listened to this entire episode on Spotify. On the hole, I’m an optimist- so it takes a lot for me to lose hope in something. & When I tell you my heart plummeted when I saw RDJ revealed as Doom💔 I felt a piece of my Marvel heart ash away into nothing. I’d love to be wrong - PLEASE RUSSO BROS, PROVE ME WRONG - but, I wholly agree, this will absolutely taint the incredible send off they gave RDJ in Endgame, if they screw it up. Could Marvel magic be made? I’d love to see it happen✨But if they do something as simple as a Tony Stark variant becoming Doom instead of Iron Man then damnit that’s just cheap. They better have a very well-executed storyline and earth shattering writers cuz that’s what it’s going to take to make this work. RDJ is a phenomenal actor and built a legacy for us through Ironman that will live on until the good Lord returns- so I’d like to think he would’ve carefully considered this choice and said yes ONLY because he really believed it can be great… but as you both pointed out, a big old bag of cash could potentially put anyone asleep to their own personal beliefs. Look forward to the first trailer in the coming year or so to get more context & maybe restore a little hope 🤞🏼

      It looks surprisingly solid. But I do fear that the movie will be nothing like the trailer, but a jumbled mess of an incoherent story - if all the rumours about the reshoots are true...

    I think we're not gonna need to watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to understand this movie. We'll just need to go off the end of Endgame where Steve gives Sam the shield

      @@vincentwilliams71 Isaiah is the only legit example. And even then they can easily have a quick monologue explaining who he is. The new Falcon is just a guy Sam knows and heroes get new suits all the time there's no need to watch an entire show just to know that. We shouldn't need to watch the shows to understand the films.
