F#*k the punt!!! My last bet on a horse race was the 2018 Melbourne Cup and I backed the winner around 10/1 with no idea of the name anymore. Once a smart little guy could clean up on horse racing but those days are all gone now. From the early 1970's until the late 80's my whole life was the Saturday races in Adelaide. I ran 20km a day from ring to ring backing the smart money from the likes of Bob Robertson and the Emanuel brothers using the one rule, get on only if you got equal or better odds than what they were taking. Then came teletext and home betting sniping overs between states until our government took that away . Then came a quadrella, treble betting system that raked me in heaps over a 7 or 8 year period. A few years break where I believed the punt for the little guy making a dollar on or off course was now an impossibility! Then I discovered Betfair and Flutter coming out of the UK in 2001 and it all became possible again. For five or six years, putting up early odds on all their UK racing place markets.That worked until bots automatically outbid your odds instantly. Then back to Aussie online bookies that had not caught up with Betfair's influence for a few years until they also woke up. Then years of betting soccer correct score, and first half/second half using Betfair as the guide while Tabcorp took insanely large bets at incorrect odds where they simply were asleep at the wheel. Then back to Aussie racing, grabbing early opening odds variations until one by one every bookie in the country had effectively closed my accounts and countless "bowler" accounts down with them. Family and friends made huge with a 10% cut of all profits for years. From 2001 until that last bet in 2018, $5000+ a week on average slowly but surely ended at $500 a week on average. Greed from Aussie taxation charges on Betfair was making it impossible to beat the odds and looking at the situation now, it's even WORSE than ever. I'm 70 and my punting days are well and truly over!

Another point re Switzerland and Growing Empire, Switzerland missed the Everest to peak in the Coolmore, Growing Empire went to the Everest and peaked, he was likely "over the top" in the Coolmore which was his 5th run for the prep, that was the absolute Best Switzerland could do on the day, Growing Empire might go to a new peak, The horse Switzerland beat was Bellatrix Star and it finished close to last behind Sunshine in Paris, just saying, beware of hype

talking about Switzerland quote..."He's the horse I am most excited about this Autumn" unquote, Why? you don't own shares in him, do you? he is full of hype so he will always be unders, he is not a betting proposition under those circumstances, if he does win the Lightning that will be the last time you get black figures and once final field is declared he will be a lot shorter than he is now at $5, so what excites you?........then again I was bored with Winx and Black Caviar, they may as well of run in 25/30 Barrier trials, they avoided any real contests like the plague, they NEVER did anything that was not expected, they were never given a challenge, as a Punter that does not excite me, I appreciate them as great horses, just when horse like that run I am having a cuppa....
